Vioxx and heart attacks

Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx and heart attacks

vioxx

Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?
Avatar n tn I have had three surgeries on my left eye (SLT, filtration, and then lazer cutting of filtration sutures to keep pressures low.), by a well known glaucoma specialist. After each surgery, my vitreous became 'looser' and more floaters erupted. Before each surgery, I asked the surgeon if the procedures would cause vitreous excitation, and each time he said no. Well, not so.
Avatar m tn I have a long history of controlling severe headaches and body pains with over the counter pain relievers, and I used to take Vioxx until it was removed from the market. Should I be concerned about kidney damage at this point? I am 62.
Avatar f tn As independent studies started to show a correlation between Vioxx and an increase risk of heart attack and stroke, the NIH funded the VIGOR study I believe in 2001 at the request of the Arthritis Advisory Committee to determine if there was indeed a link. What they discovered was that all NSAIDS increased the risk for heart attack and stroke with Vioxx being the worst.

Avatar m tn I am a 48 year old white male, and I have already had a total of 5 heart attacks (all within the last 5 tears). At first my doctoer thought it was due to my low HDL, as it has been lower that 28 for the last 5 years. But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month.
Avatar f tn Since 2001, 2,996 people in the United States have died from terrorism – all as a result of the 9/11 attacks. In that same period of time, 490,000 people have died from prescription drugs, not counting the Vioxx scandal. That means that prescription drugs in this country are at least 16,400 percent deadlier than terrorism. Again, those are the conservative numbers.

Avatar n tn What a great question. I'm probably much older than you, but this question goes back maybe 40 years when Jim Fixx had some heart trouble, gained weight, and started running, and wrote a bood called I think "The Complete Book of Running". I live in an area (Oregon) where the book was embraced and our moderate weather summer and winter is conducive to running. Jim Fixx indeed died some years later I think when running, but...
Avatar m tn Hi, My husband has had 4 Heart attacks due to blocked arterys and been admitted to hospital a couple of nights ago with severe chest pains a stress test was done and the test stopped due to VT ( 6 Beats) Can you explain this please.
Avatar n tn When there is angina due to coronary occlusions, heart cells are being deprived of blood/oxygen and that can slowly reduce the number of good functioning heart cells and eventually heart failure. Heart attack may never happen, but heart failure as heart cells die. If you are taking medication and that does not relieve chest pain, then you should have interventional treatment...what are the episodes?
1205539 tn?1267682217 ve been having heart palpitations since Halloween 09 it come along with fear of dying and high anxiety, the first 2 times it happened to me I took an ambulance to the hospital thinking the worst....
Avatar m tn My heart was racing, heart palpatations, sick to stomach, hot flashes, trembleing, etc. Took a Xanax right away. Thank God for those! I've been under a lot of stress with on & off attacks since Wednesday. I'm explaining all of this just to let you know I understand what you're going through & you are certainly not alone.
Avatar m tn Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs. If NSAIDs are medically required for the treatment of another medical disorder, a reduced dose should be used for a limited period of time and only by people with stable liver disease.
Avatar f tn Barnes’ patients who quit the study and discontinued thyroid hormones suffered fatal heart attacks within 6 years of stopping their thyroid hormones. In 1976, four years later, Dr. Barnes published his book, Solved: The Riddle of Heart Attacks. I suggest you read the aforementioned books and studies carefully and draw your own conclusions. To me it is quite clear. But to the majority of Medical Professionals and scientists, it is perhaps as clear as ...
1570981 tn?1295831355 I am pretty positive that they are not heart attacks you are experiencing. The pain would be very intense and you would end up at the hospital for sure. Hang in there and I hope you are able to get some answers very soon.
Avatar n tn well i believe that if the arteries that pump blood to your body get clogged up, then your blood starts to build up in your heart and eventually it gets to be too much and your heart explodes. killing you and your family at the same time. and your friends. so be smart and eat, sleep and...do something else right. and you wont be in the kind of pain my family went through.
Avatar f tn In my case, I have had heart attacks and have a couple of stents in my RCA. I suffer with alot of chest pains. So much so that I recently went to the ER thinking it was another heart attack. While there it was found that I suffer with coronary artery spasms and they do put me down. I have to stop what I am doing and wait for it to pass. There are other reasons for chest pains, and I wish there was a way to stop these.
Avatar m tn LDL 191, HDL 42, Total Cholesterol 261 and my estimated Coronary Heart Disease risk is 1.3. Do I have a serious emergency issue? Side note I took other tests, if you need other figures to answer my question, let me know. Thank you so much.
Avatar m tn This is what she said to me (the pain is so grate that I cant move, I feel the blood sudenly stop and then the pain comes, the pain is right on top of my heart, but this time it was strange the pain felt right bellow my heart) the thing about this is that she has had it since she was 17, and she gets these maybe a maximum of around 3 times per year and the attacks las around 1 to maybe 3 seconds. Question is ¿ Dose the heart have a reason to stop sudenly, then continue like this ??
Avatar n tn Hi Sue, As mammo said, it's great that this was caught early on, and I think the worst part of it is the unknown. I had an EKG done, wore a Holter monitor, and then had an echocardiogram done several years ago. There was nothing conclusive on the echo, but the technician did notice that my heart rate changed from 90 to 100 to 110. I was also put on a beta blocker and it's solved my problems.
Avatar f tn since i have started having panic attacks...my heart rate is always up..esp when i stand and walk and do normal activities...it races so fast..when i sat down it slows down again.i have took all of the test and everything comes out normal,my heart looks fine.
Avatar m tn In other words, the temporary fast heart rate and anxiety will not cause you to have a heart attack or damage your heart. You dont have a heart problem just because Marijauna made your heart race. It also doesn't mean that it will happen if you smoke it again. However, it COULD cause your heart to race again and obviously you didn't like it so why try it again? Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Hey my name ia izzy when I first started having panic attacks my heart rate was always high after.... The put me on a beta blocker and it's working for me, maybe u just need a higher dose ... How high dose ur heart rate get and what is it at rest...
