Vioxx and heart

Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx and heart

vioxx

Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?
Avatar n tn I have had three surgeries on my left eye (SLT, filtration, and then lazer cutting of filtration sutures to keep pressures low.), by a well known glaucoma specialist. After each surgery, my vitreous became 'looser' and more floaters erupted. Before each surgery, I asked the surgeon if the procedures would cause vitreous excitation, and each time he said no. Well, not so.
Avatar f tn As independent studies started to show a correlation between Vioxx and an increase risk of heart attack and stroke, the NIH funded the VIGOR study I believe in 2001 at the request of the Arthritis Advisory Committee to determine if there was indeed a link. What they discovered was that all NSAIDS increased the risk for heart attack and stroke with Vioxx being the worst.
Avatar n tn Hi. I am a 59 yr old male. Symptons are always have been cold, tired, joint and muscle pain worse in fingers, I took Vioxx before it was removed , high blood pressure , tinnitus, completely deaf over 2,500 cycles in both ears. Hearing aids made no difference. Dentist last month couldn't freeze my gums with 2 needles of Carbocaine. 7mm nodule on thyroid. Blood tests TSH 2.15 ( range .465 to 4.68 ) FT4 11.17 ( range 10 to 28.2 ) Total T3 2.02 ( range .92 to 2.
Avatar m tn Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs. If NSAIDs are medically required for the treatment of another medical disorder, a reduced dose should be used for a limited period of time and only by people with stable liver disease.
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar f tn COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. 865758 tn?1285952904 Tachycardia can be a symptom of both hypo and hyper, and escessive thyroid hormones can exacerbate an underlying heart arrhythmia. I have Wolff-Parkinson-White symdrome (congenital defect of the electrical system of the heart), and thyroid meds really raised he// with the WPW and increased the tachy lots.
Avatar m tn synchronizing the pacing (beating) of the heart when the native electrical system is damaged allows for the heart to beat in its more natural way, preventing worsening heart failure over time and leading to recovery of ejection fraction in many patients. I hope that helps. Maybe you should see a new cardiologist?
Avatar f tn There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. Cheers!

Avatar n tn ive bin having bad pain and cant function normal .im always in pain and my two arms go numb to the fingers. i take vioxx, a pain patch, and neurotin. but that doesent seem to be helping its going on two years and im going mad, what can i do.
Avatar f tn Since you have detoxed before you know the physical is almost over...You are so lucky to have such wonderfull ones supporting you...I see where some have no one, and it makes me sad...Just when u are craving think about how your wife was hurt, and i know you don't want to hurt her again and again...Make this your last time, and get your life back.....Also your daughter needs her dad, not her dad on pills..
973741 tn?1342342773 As far as I can tell, this is only a problem if you have hypertension. If you have normal blood pressure, the rise isn't going to affect you that much. Celebrex and Vioxx are far more connected to major heart events, again as far as I'm aware.
Avatar m tn Years ago I tried Vioxx (the non-sulpha version of Celebrex) and wound up in the ER with dangerously high BP. Trouble is, even after I stopped Vioxx my BP never went back to normal. Now I'm on two different BP meds to control it. (Full disclosure: I also have a family history of hypertension.) I took meloxicam for a long time because I could take it along with my BP meds, but eventually my stomach couldn't take it anymore.
Avatar m tn I have a long history of controlling severe headaches and body pains with over the counter pain relievers, and I used to take Vioxx until it was removed from the market. Should I be concerned about kidney damage at this point? I am 62.
Avatar f tn neurontin and lyrica for nerve pain, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, celebrex, vioxx, midol, dozens of different types of opiates both synthetic and derived from the poppy, marijuana, kava, willow bark, turmeric, ginger, benzos, nitrous oxide gas, ether, and that's just again not even thinking hard about it.
Avatar f tn In that same period of time, 490,000 people have died from prescription drugs, not counting the Vioxx scandal. That means that prescription drugs in this country are at least 16,400 percent deadlier than terrorism. Again, those are the conservative numbers. A more realistic number, which would include deaths from over-the-counter drugs, makes drug consumption 32,000 percent deadlier than terrorism. But the scope of "Death by Medicine" is even wider.
Avatar n tn I hate to go behind her back and talk to the Chief Interventionalist but it is my heart and my health and I need to feel good about this. I need two elective surgeries and I do not want the surgeon worried. Reading somewhere on CC site, doesn't the Cardiac MRI tell more about the needs for a blood thinner and can spot the arrythmia and perhaps look at the valves more closely. THANK YOU, for your help, doctor.
429432 tn?1343594190 Years ago, she gave me Vioxx, I read the warning leaflet and threw the pills in the trash. I was right, they were pulled off the market later on. I'm not sure about this either...
Avatar m tn The products in question are Temodar (temozolomide) for brain cancer and hepatitis C and cancer drugs PegIntron (pegylated interferon alfa-2b) and Intron A (interferon alfa-2b), according to Merck's just-published quarterly report. All three of the drugs were acquired when Merck bought Schering-Plough in 2009.
Avatar m tn Since those days I get flare-ups of same old gb like pain only not as severe, and tolerable, but annoying as heck. They show up a few months apart and last at least 10 days. I am currently dealing with a flare up that's lasted 14 days. I am scheduling an apt with doc. Old doc said that scar tissue and bowel motility can cause irritation. Do any of your patients experience this? Bentyl was prescribed and I am not sure if it really helps.
Avatar f tn I figure the kinks are worked out of it. i was on vioxx when it was pulled off the market and they were going to put me on Zelnorm and that got pulled. Just more comfortable with the oldies but goodies.
Avatar f tn It was a dull throbbing ache that pulsed with each heart beat. Nothing sharp about it. They never moved and never radiated. Sometimes I had back pain between my shoulder blades from poor posture while standing for long periods of time. Sometimes it was difficult to sleep or lay down on my left side, but I mostly sleep on my back anyway. It seemed the pains went away after deep breathing (I tend to "hold my breath" when I'm thinking a lot or stressed).
