Common Questions and Answers about Vigamox vs tobramycin

avelox

Avatar f tn Now I am scheduled for cataract surgery, and in the presurgical packet I received this weekend, there is an rx for Vigamox, even though I requested that a note about the Cipro/Vigamox problem be placed in my file. I know the fluoroquinolones are appealing to docs because they are so tremendously effective, but for people who cannot tolerate them, are there acceptable substitutes?
Avatar f tn A different, very cheap medication that would do the job is prednisolone acetate 1% which comes as a generic. Tobramycin is not a truly equal substitution for Vigamox. However you should not need to use it for days and days. At our center we pre-treat for 1 day and then treat afterwards for 3 - 4 days, basically however long the bottle lasts. Certainly you are within your rights to request another sample bottle of Vigamox since you are having both eyes done.
Avatar f tn My eyes are still tearing alot. So much that it appears I'm crying. My opthamologist put me on an antibiotic and the redness and itching went away, but my eyes still tear. I do have cataracts. My Optha. doctor had pics taken of the inside of my eyes and said all looks well, but that it does seem like my eyes are reacting to something. I haven't been taking any eyedrops, she stopped everything, all drops.
Avatar f tn He prescribed me Vigamox 4 times a day. That evening the pain worsened - eye socket/headache type pain around my eye, excessive tearing, redness, swelling. (Friday) When I woke up the next morning, I had cloudy vision and couldn't see out of my left eye. I called their office back and the tech told me I was most likely allergic to the Vigamox and to discontinue and switch back to the Zylet. However, my vision didn't improve.
Avatar m tn She said I had the bacterial type of pink eye and gave me a prescription for Tobramycin. I used it for seven days and had about 50% improvement, but the infectipon was still present. I went back yesterday and she put me on three days of prednisone --6 pill therapy and a new prescrition for Tobramycin for six more days. If this doesn't work--what are my options? I have read that Tobramycin can cause kidney damage. Are their other drugs to use?
Avatar m tn hy, 2 weeks ago i had cxl treatment for keratoconus. my doctor prescribed me to use vigamox and tobradax 4 times a day for 5 days and after flu she prescribed me to take these drops for 1 week.
Avatar f tn I went to see my optometrist she prescribed an antibiotic VIGAMOX. I put since last saturday 4 drop a day. I went to see her last Monday. No improvement for the dot but my eyes fell better than saturday. I went back yesterday, no improvement so she send me to the eye doctor specialist. She told me to take Vigamox every 2h instead of 4. When I read the trial on Vigamox the patient took the drug 3x a day and see efficacy after 4-5days. For me it had been 5 now 6 days.

Avatar f tn I have a corneal ulcer/infection being treated with fortified antibiotics(Vancomycin and Tobramycin) 1 drop every hour, vigamox 4xday, tobradex ointment 1at bedtime, and predforte 4xday. I have been using these medications since Friday Oct.31 Saw Dr. Nov.1st and was told to stay on this schedule. I saw my glaucoma specialist today and he took me off all meds except fortified antibiotics.
1580703 tn?1651904887 my friend got hit in the eye and began to see black spots even after using tobramycin for a few days does this mean it could be retinal detachment and should see a doctor or go to the ER? http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn I saw my Doctor he put numbing drops in my eyes and did a slit light test, then prescribed me acular and vigamox, directed me to two different OTC drops ( one which is almost gel like ). Told me that I had a cut with scar tissue and that it would be a long and painful healing process. I was told not be in the wind or under a fan, always have on sun glasses when outside, and keep light dim while inside. He said it would probably take eight to twelve weeks to heal.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed and given vigamox (4 x day) and Tobradex. The doctor insisted I come back the next day to check my pupil after dilated. So, I paid another $140 for that exam. Now, they (it's a medical center where different doctors step in) insist I come back every 2 days to check on the healing. Unfortunately, I can't take off anymore work or pay another $140. The redness, itching and stinging have all decreased in the last 36 hrs since starting treatment.
Avatar m tn He told me that I had an infection in my eye due to the fact that I was in a public hottub (hotel) with my contacts in. He gave me vigamox. I followed up the next day and they said it looked like everything was getting better and they gave me some anti-swelling and sauve for at night. Everything got better for me and I went off the drops like the doctor told me to. Now one week after stopping the drops the eye is blurring up again.
Avatar m tn My ophthalmologist prescribed Vigamox and Nevenac 4 times per day beginning 2 days before the surgery, Being a antibiotic, I hope the Vigamox helps with the bacteria count as well.
Avatar n tn The Dr said I have bulging eyes which no one in 70 years has ever mentioned. The Dr said I have excess pressure in the eyes. He R/x Timolol Maleate and Tobramycin Dexamethasone along with Minocycline which caused extreme abdominal pain, diarrhea within days of beginning the regiment. Also I was told to get a CT scan to see if I have a Thyroid condition .
1415174 tn?1453243103 Hi, my corneal specialist (opthamologist) said I have a marginal corneal ulcer bacterial in nature and was thought be caused by rosacea. He gave me Vigamox drops every two hours and Bacitracin ointment for night time. I am having a lot of side effects from the Vigamox (irritation, watery eye, itcy, pain etc. and very red eye). But that is not the biggest problem. I tried the Bacitracin for two nights. Last night I up and saw that my eye was very swollen.
Avatar f tn thank-you!
Avatar m tn After using Tobramycin 0.3% couple of days, the inflamation increased around the eye with lot of redness and pain. I saw another doctor who prescribed to me PRE FORTE 10 ML drops and also ZYMAN drops 10 ML to be used few minutes later one drop 4 time a day. Also he prescribed antibiotics pills DOXYCYCL HVC 100 MG ,1 PILL A DAY.
Avatar f tn Does Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension USP, 0.3%/0.1% (sterile) treat Corneal Ulcer?
Avatar f tn I have pseudo in my lungs as well due to atypical CF (cystic fibrosis). You might want to ask your doc about TOBI (tobramycin) that is nebulized twice a day for a course of 28 days on a month on, month off basis. It is very effective in keeping my colonies under control. Another thing to consider is Cipro orally, I can't take it but many with pseudo report good effects from that antibiotic as well. The accepella is a good thing for you to do, it helps move the mucous around.
Avatar m tn He diagnosed the same Cornea Ulcer (non infectious) but told that I need to use Tobramycin drops. In addition i do Baby shampoo cleaning eyelids and warm compresses daily. All this is chronic and related to inflammation of eye. The ulcer went away in few days and doctor said there is possibility of return. I need to continue daily compresses but can discontinue the drops. Also my vision became very blurry. He told me that my left eye is the strong and its normal.
Avatar m tn t look like herpes but she said my eye was a bit red so she prescribed tobramycin 2 drops 4 times a day for 7 days. My eye is only a little red though and I think it is always a little red. My mom says not to use the drops because my she says my eye does not look red and not to complicate things by adding drops. Should I use the drops, and if I do do I have to use them for 7 days or just until the eye stops being red? Thanks!
1428481 tn?1340593131 I have the eye drops (Vigamox) on hand and was wandering if I could use them on my son. I have heard a lot about pink eye but never in infants so I'm not sure how to treat an infant with Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis). He has green mucus basically gluing his right eye together. I have had to wipe it clean multiple times with a wet cloth. The white of his eye is not red but I have heard of people having pink eye without it actually being red.
