In one embodiment, the method comprises administrating an effective amount of simvastatin to patients showing elevated alphafetoprotein levels. In another embodiment, the method comprises administrating simvastatin to patients upon detection of a liver condition, i.e viral Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis.
The interaction has been reported in patients receiving lovastatin or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
There was a study done with 550 people in 1993, that looked at the differences in treatment with simvastatin versus pravastatin. Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin.

Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system.
Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Effective in June 2011 the FDA recommends limiting the dose of simvastatin to a maximum dose of 40 mg, with the exception of patients already taking simvastatin 80 mg daily for a period of greater than 12 months who have not developed any myalgia side effects. The FDA make this restriction because at the highest dose of simvastatin 80 mg daily the incidence of serious myopathy was higher than using other available statins.
Patients with liver problems: ZOCOR should not be used by patients with active liver disease or repeated blood test results indicating possible liver problems.
Liver: About 1% of patients who took ZOCOR in clinical trials developed elevated levels of some liver enzymes. Patients who had these increases usually had no symptoms. Elevated liver enzymes usually returned to normal levels when therapy with ZOCOR was stopped.
Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Warnings and Precautions
Because simvastatin can affect the liver, it is used with caution in people who drink more than a moderate amount of alcohol or have a history of liver disease.
Simvastatin is not recommended for people with liver disease or high liver enzymes before treatment begins.
Possible Symptoms of Liver Problems
Several symptoms can occur in someone who develops liver problems while taking simvastatin.
Theoretically, in some patients wouldn't this dramatically increase that patient's chance of clearing HBsAG if used with NUC's? If so, then Alinia, perhaps after years of use, might give some people a chance to get rid of the HBV virus and attain immunity. Or do I have this wrong?
peg+simvastatin+alinia+vit d3 and possibly tenofovir too, this will improve hbsag clearance veyr very much because peg monotherapy has only hbv clearance of 8% in 48 weeks, too low
heptech products are all ok except fibroguard, you shpuld not take fibroguard as lon as you are on peg

I have spoken with ROCHE guys in Nigeria and they are talking about what they call PEGASYS(If I get the the spelling, we spoke on phone)
Now, what do you know about this anti-viral? Simvastatin doesn't appear available in Nigeria.
As I went in around August of 2011 for a follow up doc apt, I asked if having colder hands and feet were symptoms that some patients encountered. Both my general practioner and heart Dr. said that they have never heard of this.
I used to be the one with the warmer body heat and my wife the colder one. Today it is reverse.

I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective.
Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
since i am on a complex combo made of etv, gcmaf, ntz, heptech supplements, any effect on hbv, hbsag is from the combo and it cannot be determined if from sim, ntz or whatever
anyway we can say one thing for sure use of simvastatin 40mg for 1 month had no negative effects, normal alt etc, i will slowly increase to 80mg dose and see if any sides or positive effects
i am wating for hbsag quantification, hbvdna and hbvdna genes sequence, any of these tests is very useful to determine effect of t
entecavir lowers hbvdna and replication, so number of circulating virions but cannot stop virions and replication complitely
simvastatin, makes weak virions so maybe replication can be lowered so much or stopped complitely and fasten cccdna and hbsag lowering

Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Baseline HBV DNA, HBeAg, ALT and HBsAg levels were low and similar in both arms. At the time of the analysis, 53 PEG-IFNα-2a-treated patients and 49 ETV-treated patients had reached EOT. At EOT, 13% (7/53) of the PEG-IFNα-2a arm had HBsAg clearance (0% in the ETV arm; P<0.05). curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . I don't know if this is a side effect of the drug I'm taking 40mg a day but feel really achy will this pass .
HBV patients....pls do not feel despair. Drug is getting better. Latest findings were :
i) HBsAg loss is possible and getting higher and higher both for eantigen -ve & +ve......ETV and TNF
ii) Possible remission after 3 yrs antiviral treatment % is also getting higher and higher...even with ADV.
iii) Resistance profile understanding is getting better.....
With this trend going on....very soon we will be o.k.
