Vicodin vs tylenol 3

Common Questions and Answers about Vicodin vs tylenol 3

vicodin

Can anyone tell me the difference between tylenol 3 and hydrocodone, I understand the hydrocodone is a synthetic of codeine, but as far a strength of tylenol 3 vs one 5mg vicodin? What is the addiction factor, what is worse codeine or hydrocodone? Just curious..
I was not a heavy abuser, but I have taken Vicodin-Percocet-Tylenol 3 throughout the pregnancy for migraines and ovarian cysts. It was helpful to read your concerns, I took the medicine sometimes when I wasn't in any pain, I just took it (like you) to feel more comfortable around people. I felt that daily life was easier to deal with on a pill, but the sad fact is that everything comes back time times worse when the pills where off.
Yes the 5/325 is what Im refering to. 5mg of Hydro Vs 5mg of Perc. I would ultimatley like to quit this ugly habbit completely by cutting down daily but the problem is I dont have the supply currently to do so. The percs would be to get me by until I can begin the tappering process.
SO my question is, why does Vicodin seem to work so much better than Tylenol 3 when they are (so I have been told) essentially the same thing? Again I'm ticked because the one medicine that really knocks out this pain without knocking me out is being withheld. I am really getting tired of this. The doc has sugggested a laparoscopic surgery to look for endometriosis. With my luck, I'll be given some advil for post-op pain management.
I've had chronic SEVERE migraine for the last 10 years. Up until 2001, I had taken Tylenol 3's- then I was in a car accident and suffered a closed head injury. I thought they were bad before! My Neuro says that I am in top 2% of migraine suuferers world wide, in that I now have a migraine every day, with dibilitating pain one or two times per week, and am NOT responsive to preventatives.
Tylenol 3 is prescribed for Mild to moderatly sever pain, while Oxycodone is prescribed for Moderate to Severe pain which a fusion,my Father had one a few years back, still in some pain but had to take the Oxycodones for 6 months just to walk daily and be able to move because of the pain,he was then on Norco 5/325mgs for a year every 2 weeks got a refill but he started to abuse them(his lack of judgement and addictive atttitude).
5 years i have recently came to the realization that im a addict and want to stop taking them i quit once befor and was clean for a while and like the others i let my gaurd down and **** got outa control the last time i quit i was only taking 2-3 (7.5) a day at the most now im taking around 10 a day. what should i do to possibly help me quit or help the side effects from w/d and what am i goin to go through? how long will i feel like crap? will marijuana help or drinking?
cause I'd take whatever I could get and even oxycodone if I couldn't get hydros. Thru my 4 yr ordeal, I took all those name brands except Vics. Same concept as Tylenol vs. acetaminophine and Advil vs. ibuprofen. Wishing you well on this new road and so glad you found MH!
It gets me just as buzzed as any narcotic drug such as vicodin, tylenol 3/4 with codeine, or darvocet. I know I have an addictive personality so I make it a point to monitor my intake of ultram. Though it is not considered a narcotic, I think anything can be addicting if used in excess. If you take it be careful and use common sense. P.S. I am a chronic back pain and leg pain suffer.
Yes, I guess you could say I'm alittle frustrated. I wrote atleast 3 times that vicodin withdrawal is dangerous but not life threatening. Posts keep coming up in regards to me saying that vic w/d is not life threatening. Okay I think we all get it now. Well I hope...
No more going to the ER for nasty Demerol injections 3 x week and taking tons of horribly unhealthy Vicodin and Tylenol!! It has literally changed my life, and my family is continuously commenting about how wonderful it is to have my pain under control. Then my mom watched 20/20 tonight and called me up in a panic talking about how maybe I shouldnt be taking this medication and how this boy died, etc...
This week I am on about 560 mg of Vicodin, and having troubl;e sleeping.,. but doesn't it have to be done sooner or later? I am kinda of confused about how fast I should go??? Except for the sleep, the worst physical symptoms are over. Constipated, diarrea, some anxiety..but the sleep lack is horrible to me. I guess my question is....is it ok to use 1.25mg of Ativan while I get off the Vicodin and the Soma asap???? My first time on this board....
If you get pure oxycodone, it's a schedule II -- but I'm fairly certain, mixed with tylenol/asprin/etc... it's schedule III (same as Hydrocodone - alone 2 - mixed 3). In any case, it definately 'seems' stronger to me. 60-70MG of Percs always seemed as intense to me as 120/150 Vicodin - but I didn't like the feeling as much. Everything I've read though, does point to longer/worse WD's >= Methadone WD.
I take these reconmendations from several hepatologist (liver only specialists) who only reconmend tylenol based products at no more than 2-3 gm per day (4-6 OTC dose). Every doctor varies a bit..but this is what I have come to know as the standard of care (even for the liver transplant crowd) 1. Tylenol at no greater than 2-3 grams per day and never mixed with any alcohol (which is a no-no anyhow). 2. Avoid NSAIDS.
I'm STILL on the same antibiotic!!!! Only by now, I've added Advil, Tylenol and Tramadol to the Vicodin. My diet is liquid. I had blood drawn today by the emergency room doctor for lab tests and I'm having a CT scan of my neck tomorrow. I'm betting this whole thing has been an infection from the first root canal that never cleared up. Now, I'm looking at probably having the implanted post removed and a drain put in to clear the infection.
Hi, in may I had an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured and I ended up with emergency surgery with removal of my left tube along with a 7 inch scar taking vicodin for 2 weeks than percocets another 2 I also suffer from fibromyalgia so I'm back on my tylenol with codein and neurotin for pain management for that.
I try to go back to sleep with warm milk or tylenol. This causes more anxiety; I just want to sleep. I have not had more than 3 hours a night since the news. I sometimes fall back but only for a short while and then wake up with anxiety. Now I have been trying 1/4mg. doses of ativan to try and fall back and no luck. I went to and outside Kaiser Psych. and he prescribed the Gabitril; well I got asthma and a couple of other uncomfortable side effects so stopped it.
Approximately 150mgs of Tramadol is equal to 60mgs of codeine, which as Im sure youre well aware of codeine is one of the weakest opiates out there given for minor aches and pains usually in the form of Tylenol 3's.
I went from percocet to tylenol 3, down to tylenol 2 before I gave birth. My doc said Tylenol 2 and 3 was fine for the baby and 1 -2 a day was a low amount. If you have talked to your doc, then everything will be fine. It's always terrifying when we don't know what to expect, so we hide from the truth. In my opinion, just from the pregnancy standpoint and not discussing any addiction issues, your baby will be fine.
Husband doesn't want wife to know he called. Dated 1-3-01. I was so furious, hurt and embarassed that I was shaking so bad. I took the note out since they were dumb enough to leave it by me. The dr. comes in and lokks down his nose at me. He checked my heart? made me bend over to check my back and said take tylenol. At this point I didn't want a f%$#&** thing from him. But I said and if the pain gets worse? He said Advil. I said thank you very much and have a nice day.
Hi, My daughter, 19, had her wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. She was given vicodin 50, 1-2 every 4-6 as needed for pain. She found 1 was not enough and was taking 2 every 6 hours. She ended up with complications and an extended recovery and pain, so the Dr. gave her a new script. We asked for 75 as 50 wasn't working and 2 x 50 (100) was too much, making her really high and sleepy.
Does anyone have any idea what would have made me so violently ill? Could the Tylenol in the Norcos have done it? Or do you think it was the drastic decrease in the amount of opiate? At any rate, I got my regular meds this afternoon and for the first time in two days I'm feeling like myself and don't have nerve pain screaming down my legs and the feeling that the soles of my feet contain shards of broken glass (two of the major symptoms of the arachnoiditis).
I was totally off all meds 3 days after my last surgery and I do have a script for Tylenol 3 which is my mental backup. I refuse to take anything stronger and may take a pill twice a year. Drugs are not an option if you want to keep all the plates spinning. The best help I found in how to deal with the pain was to start seeing a counselor, not a pain management person, but a psychologist.
I'm nervous about going back on Vicodin because that type of drug is not acceptable to society but the drugs that they want me one prozac etc are useless to me. My delemma Vicodin vs suicide. Thank you for listening.
i would take two tylenol pm's, wake a couple hours later and take another one. they made me feel horrible and the tylenol isn't a good thing at all but i needed some amount of sleep. you may want to get some sleep aid from your doc. he may just give you some samples and you could use them for the 2nd week? i agree with bmdad, they don't work that first week (nor did the tylenol pm) then seem to help you more the second week. it's the weekend, are you off work?
Just wondering? Percocets seem stronger and Vicodin has never done too much for me?
I commend every single one of you on here that have the strength to admit you have a problem and it needs to stop! I have been addicted to vicodin for the last 3 years. It started innocently enough, 50 every two weeks from my doc. Then he started giving me 150 a month, then 4 months ago when I fully intended to tell him it needed to stop because the pills never lasted, he upped my scrip to 240 a month! I started taking up to 25 a day, and couldn't even make the 240 last a month.
having Miagraines, I have been prescribed Vicodin for the past 2 years. Now I cannot make it past 6 hrs without taking 3-4 pills. I desperately want to quit this addiction that consumes my every thought...Just wondering what you all do as the first step.....Has anyone done any out-patient programs? I am self-employed and would ruin my business if I had to take weeks off for detox....thank you all in advance for your thoughts and ideas...this is a hidden evil not even my wife knows about...
''you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile''...you will understand this when it hits this is 1/3 physical and 2/3 mental be ready to fight on both fronts....this is truly a battle one or lost in ones own mind be ready for the mind screw....the best thing you can do is brig a positive attitude to the table it means the difference between suffering or discomfort be prepared to do the things it takes to help the symptoms ...
