•Other substances also can form stones including the medications acyclovir, indinavir, and triamterene. The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is not drinking enough fluids. Kidney stones are more likely to occur if you make less than 1 liter of urine a day. That's slightly more than a quart. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001493/ I have had chronic kidney stones since my early 20's so I am familiar with the pain involved, not very pleasent.
Vicaden is completely safe. I have kidney stones and I've taken it a lot this pregnancy. I've asked several on docs their opinion . As long as your not popping them like crazy...then the fear u get addicted to it...otherwise its probably fine.
I agree, it is wrong to depribe others of the pain killing effects of Vicodin. I am an addict, I took vicodin for quite some time for Kidney stones, nothing else would have cured the pain. Now I am addicted for the euphoria and the physical dependency I have. I agree, it is not easy to get vicodin, I continually had to return for tests and prove my need about once every month.
I am battling an addiction to Vicodin stemming from a root canal which I underwent nearly 2 years ago. I have smoked pot years. Daily, in fact. It has torn me up. My confidense, my spirit; everything.
(I am not a health care professional just an educated consumer) My guess from the CT Scan is they may suspect kidney stones, the type of pain would suggest that. And if that is the case then high doses of pain medication is appropriate action. It would be cruel to deny it. And there is next to no risk in taking it in terms of addiction if you are in pain and take it just to relieve the pain.
I went to the emergency room on Thursday the 1st with extreme pain in my right side. They took a CAT scan and determined I have kidney stones. They said it was the size of a grain of sand. Also I was told to eat only soup and drink alot of water. I was prescribed flomax, IBProfin, and vicodin. When should I expect to pass the stone? and Can I eat any solids? It is Sunday and I have yet to pass it.
I have a lot of pain mainly on my left side, alot of time enough to make be bend over . Urologist said can't be from kidney stones since they are still in my kidney. I may have passed something but nothing big enough to see since I have been watching when I urinate and have symptons. This has been going on since end of April - doctor said looking to remove them would be like looking for needle in haystack. Not showing on ultrasound.
I have seen at least a dozen posts with kidney stones. There has to be some correlation between opiate use and kidney stones. My surgeon showed me mine on the CT scan and it's a white circle as big as a golfball. He feels it might be from chemicals but said that it's probably from my chemo. I keep thinking that he is gonna pull out a big white opiate that either says Endo or Watson on it lol. Just wondering if anyone else was told theirs was from chemicals?
Just found out that I have kidney stones again!!! And this time, I am going to need your support, because I am DETERMINED to get through this without narcotic pain meds. I am only 26, but have had kidney stones three time, including this time. It's excruciating. Yesterday, I started feeling pain in my lower back, and pain when peeing, and it got so severe that my husband had to bring me to the hospital. I told them I thought it was prob kidney stones, and sure enough, it is. GREAT.
I have a kidney disease which causes me to pass several kidney stones a month. Not only do I have the pain when passing a stone but due to the disease have constant chronic pain even when not passing a stone. My pain specialist, nephrologist and primary physician have me taking 2-15mg MS Contin and 4-7.5/325mg Percocet daily along with up to 4-50mg Demerol when needed for more severe pain. I've been taking these medications for approximately 6 plus years.
AS TIME WENT ON IT TOOK MORE PILLS TO GET RID OF THE PAIN (COMBINED LOWER BACK PAIN AND KIDNEY STONES). I NOW FIND MYSELF TAKING THE PILLS 4 AT TIME SOMETIMES 3 TIMES A DAY. EVEN IF THERE IS MIIMAL PAIN. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS SOME SORT OF PATCH THAT YOUR DOCTOR CAN PRESCRIBE TO HELP YOU WITHDRAW AND GET OFF THE VICODIN. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE AND WHAT IT IS. I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. I TIRED OF FEELING TIRED AND EXAUSTED.
I became addicted to Vicodin from having chronic kidney stones for four years straight. I didn't become addicted until the last six months when it got so bad that I had to quit my job and have four surgeries within a five month period. My parathyroid was producing numerous amounts of calcium in my body. I finally had it removed and no longer have kidney stones, only a few small ones. The addiction happened quickly in a six month period of time.
I pass a kidney stone at least once a month, the problem is that after I pass the stone I don't quit taking the drugs because I am an addict that has kidney stones all the time. Good luck to you, other's on this forum may have had 2 a day habits that can help answer your question.
I started using Percocet and vicodin, when I had kidney stones. Once the pain was over I realized how addicted I had become! My doctor gave me 60 vicodins, and 4 refills. Also she gave me percocet when I told her the vicodin wasn't working for me anymore. She knew about my passed drug problem, but continued to refill my prescription. So I am now taking about 10 to 12 vicodin a day, sometimes more! I want to go cold turkey, but I am so afraid of the pain I will be in!
I have had 14 kidney stones and 3 surgeries for them. I was given Demerol and Toridol!!!
I am a poor water drinker which contributes to the formation of most kidney stones. I suggest that you have your stones analysed if you have not done that. I was told by 2 urologists that there is nothing that I can take or do that will change my situation. Both urologist told me the same as what yours said, my chronic back pain was not related to kidney stones. They were correct and I was diagnosed with other issues that was the cause of most of my chronic low back pain.
lithrotripsy is a walk in the park ive had 2 of them and have kidney stones since 1995!!
I have been reading many message boards and feel am self educated about kidney stones by my own body. Each kidney stone is unique in severity of pain. The bigger ones don't always have bigger pain. The largest I have passed was5 ml. I just dont know what to do anymore. Im tired of passing them, tired of being in pain, tired of missing work and could be in danger of loosing my job. The painkillers are great , but takes a day or so to get back into functioning mode after taking them.
I recently visited the ER with pain and nausea. ultra sound diagnosed a kidney stone. after 2 days of pain meds I was released. the stone remains in my kidney and they gave me a "nothing we can do" answer. is this common? how long do stones remain in the kidney?
Hello, Long story short, I have a uti, kidney stones and kidney infection. I was ddiagnosed with uti first and was prescribed 5/325 vicodin. Went to the emergency room the next day because Pain was worse. I took 2 percocet around 3 this afternoon then about 7 I took 2 vicodin. It's now 2 a.m. and I've had to take one more percocet about a hour ago. Of course I'm really drowsy but I also have the shakes in my arms and hands. I'm scared to fall asleep. Do you think I've taken too much?
I have had Gallbladder removal and kidney stones really bad seven times in the hospitable. Oh and lets not forget a Csection That lead me to a addition of it for the last two years. I am not in pain any more praise God. I know that he has healed me but my mind and body have been addict to Vicodin. I have 5 years sober from alcoholism so it makes me so sad to be in this place right now. I never thought I would be here and it wasn't by choice. It's been a very long hard period of my life.
Hi all, I have been on Vicodin for awhie..much longer than I realized and just recently had my doctor tell me some symptoms I thought were related to a UTI was actually signs of addiction and withdrawals from Vicodin. Yeah for me. I have dumped all of my pills in the toilet. I was taking 10mg 1-2 times a day but just about every day except on the weekend of the 4th when I didn't have them with me and then on the 5th, I just forgot as we were drinking a bit and that is when these symptoms began.
I have had kidney stones for about 5 years and I have been to the ER and doctors at times due to intense pain that at times cripples me because im not able to move. The doctors say that the stones are about 2mm and will eventually pass but I still have them after 5 years. I was prescribed vicodin for the pain but those have huge side effects on me. I suggest to them about having surgery either laser or the sonar that breaks them up but they say no.
i just found out yesturday that iam pregn. i was perscribed vicodin for kidney stones and i want to know from the time before i found out i was pregnant, what are the chances and risks that could be done to my baby!
I started taking it when I was pregnant for kidney stones because they said I had no other option for pain releif as surgery was oput of the question. A year later I was diagnose with facial neuropathy that they perscribed it for as daily pain management. I have alwasy suffered from depression and vicodin helps me feel "normal" after so long i have built up a tolerance and if I miss a dose i get very very sick like having the flu and go throug suicidle depression. I want to stop.
The baby is in a position that's putting a block on my urinary tract and my bladder, so my kidneys aren't functioning properly and it's causing repetitive infections. Also I have kidney stones and am in the process of passing one as we speak. I've been hospitalized several times and I've had to take the pain meds off and on throughout all this. It is prescribed by my OB but I will not take them after 34 weeks. I've discussed this with my doctor and he supports me.
sooo many people take this while pregnant (and I understand everyone is diffrent) but think about it if it wasn't safe what kind of extream pain would a women with kidney stones or who was in an accident or who had arthrisits go through and like they said it's about moderation. Just because maybe most of you didn't have pain (lucky) doesn't mean not everyone is just happy and can deal with it..now that I talked to y dr.
I have used Vicodin ES for 2 conditions #1 Kidney Stones and #2 As of late arthritis (I am allergic to NSAIDS ---Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents. ) It is the nasty effects of deranged Tylenol Metabolism and attendant liver damage that worry me most. When in severe pain one will do almost anything to make it go away. In the case of kidney stones I was lucky as they were relatively acute (2-3 days at most) so Vicodin ES was not a problem.
Thank you so much for this info. My doctor recently put me on vicodin for kidney stones and i was SOOOOO nervous because i am 29 wks pregnant and they say never to take aspirin during pregnancy. Aspirin is the main ingredient in vicodin, so anyway...moderation is the key huh? good thing cuz man i hate taking pills, even if they do help the pain.
Kidney stones are common causes of urinary tract obstruction. When hydronephrosis occurs quickly, people may have excruciating pain, most often in the flank (the area between the ribs and the hips). When hydronephrosis occurs more gradually, people may have no symptoms or experience attacks of dull, aching discomfort in the flank.
