Vicodin for migraine headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Vicodin for migraine headaches

vicodin

Avatar n tn My 35 yr. old son has had almost constant headaches for over a year and a half. He has been to several "specialists" and the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago and Mayo Clinic in Mn. He is being treated with drugs, since MRI shows no tumors, etc. The drugs are not working. Vicodin does temporarily lessen the pain as does demoral. He cannot get anymore vicodin. He has never had an allergy test, the doctor at Mayo didn't think it was necessary. Any suggestions?

It hurts so bad i puke and moving around makes it hurt worse. I tried Iboprofun and hot baths, ice packs, sinus medecine- nothing helps not even the pain killers. I almost made my husband take me to the ER. I heard antidrepressents help but i already take those. Could something be really wrong?
Avatar f tn doesnt give me any reason for headache. dont know why i have severe headaches. last one lasted a month. please help......i am a retired registered nurse....
Avatar m tn Sinusitis, refractive errors of the eye, migraine, cluster headaches, brain tumors, high blood pressure, tension headaches, temporal arteritis, pinched cervical spinal nerve, poor or disturbed sleep etc are several causes of headaches. Dental pain and ear ache can cause similar symptoms. Please consult a headache and migraine specialist to rule out these causes one by one. Take care!
Avatar f tn I used to take Immitrex but it stopped working. Maxalt seems to work good for me as to headaches and vicodin does not work for migraines so don't bother. Work with your neuro trying different meds to get a handle on it and check out the definition of SCM to see if that describes your pain. chronic pain is no fun. Hope you find some relief.
10882379 tn?1435465934 I wasn't taking anything for my headaches at first because I didn't know what meds could harm the baby. During my first appointment my doctor told me that I could take tylenol for my headaches. Nothing else. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn This could rule out structural or organic causes and highly suggests primary headaches such as migraine headaches. There are different migraine variants and you consultation with your doctor will be very beneficial. You could start a headache journal wherein you write possible triggers such as food or weather changes. Take your medications as prescribed by your doctor and not longer than intended. Take care and do keep us posted.
2104296 tn?1334841551 I just got a new doctor and she took me off cause of the huge side effects I was experiencing Which was a good thing. I was also on the pain medication Vicodin to take when needed, too take the edge off the pain. The new doctor does not want me to take any kind of pain medication to help take the edge off. I think she is afraid of prescribing pain meds to anyone. I have stopped take any medication right now for my migraines. I need advice on what to do?
Avatar m tn I have some thoughts but,of course, only you can answer your question. This is always a sticky wicket when it comes to pain AND addiction... To me,if the benefit of taking the Vicodin far outweighs the detriment then you should take one. BUT,you really should be careful here. You mention, more than once, your depression. It could be causing the headaches. I don't know. Also,Vicodin is not a first line drug for Migraines. There are others that are non narcotic that can be prescribed.
Avatar n tn I have been using suboxone to kick a vicodin addiction, I have been off the Vicodin for 5 days. While it has whiped out the w/d it has been giving me terrible head aches. I wake up every morning with a migraine and then the head ache lingers for the rest of the day. I take 1 to 2 8 mg pills per day. I was supposed to 3 but I didn't want to build up a strong dependence to the suboxone. I noticed that I having been grinding my teeth at night because I wake up and my jaw is sore.
Avatar n tn Some persons may be initially diagnosed with migraine headaches or tension headaches which may later transform into chronic daily headaches. This usually takes place if one has been taking pain relievers and migraine medications for at least 15 days in the past 3 months. I suggest that you discuss this with your physician. You may seek a second opinion with regards to this. Your medications need to be reassessed and modified.
Avatar f tn Hi Headaches at the back of the head may have occipital neuralgia, cervicogenic headaches, tension type headaches and migraine headaches as differentials. A scan of the cervical spine will be able to assess if an underlying disorder of the cervical spine may be contributing to the pain. Cervicogenic headaches may also refer pain to the face. Arthritic or musculoskeletal causes have to be ruled out. Occipital neuralgia usually occurs after a mechanical injury to the head or neck.
Avatar f tn medications as simple as tylenol or advil if used too much can cause rebound headaches that are even worse then the headaches for which the medications were started for. This is very common and is most likely to occur with use of any medication for your headache more than a few times a week. It can occur with all the commonly used headache medications such as ibuprofen, triptans (such as imitrex), fioricet, and commonly with any type of narcotic such as tylenol #3, dilaudid, percocet, etc.
1387175 tn?1326400997 It is also possible that Vicodin is just not a good opiate for you. Maybe percocet (oxycodone) would be effective for you and that is just a step up. Again I hope you will consult your PCP of your pharmacist. Please keep in touch and let us know how this turns out for you. We all learn for one another. We'll look forward to hearing from you again. Take Care, ~Tuck .
Avatar f tn I was seeing a doctor for a while, and had to leave her. All she did for me was prescribe me a ton of Vicodin. The vicodin worked, I was still looking for more. I went to another doctor for a year and a half, he was a student. With him I tried 14 to 15 different preventative medications from anti seizure medicines, birth control, anti-depressants, and anti nausea pills. He would also prescribe me Tramadol. The preventative medications worked for no more than two or three weeks.
Avatar f tn m going through the same thing with headaches I had a migraine for 2 days that was almost debilitating. kaley cuoco some natural remedies for headaches during pregnancy. just make sure you talk to your doctor before taking any sort of over the counter or herbal supplements.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any healthy remedies for headaches? Since I've been told not to have any Tylenol or Advil.
Avatar f tn For almost 2 months ive had headaches almost every day. The last 3 weeks or so they have Been severe, we are talking migraine status. I drink lots of water, eat right, had my eyes checked. Tylenol does nothing, an ice pack will sometimes take the edge off. I go to see my dr tomorrow. But do any of you ladies have any advise? Im to the point where I can't work or even think.
Avatar f tn I was consired but the dr said my history was good and he thought it was going to be a temporary thing and would go back down to normal....but if your already on b/p meds you could be setting yourself up for a disaster ....as for the headaches it could be form your b/p ...I know when I was going off and over the first few weeks after being off the narcotics I would get mind bending headaches so it might just be part of your withdrawals...
1027005 tn?1300050172 If there is no history of head trauma, this could be due to primary headaches such as tension, migraine or cluster headaches. Try to avoid taking over-the-counter pain medications because some can cause rebound headaches. Have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Imaging studies such as MRI or Ct scan may also help rule out organic causes. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Try treatment with antibiotics (amoxacillin, levofloxacin etc) along with anti histaminics, anti inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, diclofenac etc). If no response is seen, consult neurologist for migraine therapy.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.

Avatar m tn I'm a 19 year old male, and I've been suffering from severe headaches for over 2 years. They are usually throbbing constant pains behind my eyes, or behind my temples, and sometimes they just feel like they're coming from the center of my skull. I'm also extremely sensative to light when i have them. I've been to several head specialists and doctors and they all end up doing the same thing for me, proscribing some random medicine that doesn't do anything.
