Vicodin and fertility

Common Questions and Answers about Vicodin and fertility

vicodin

Does anyone know, can past use of narcotics, such as Vicodin and/or Percoset casue problems with fertility?
Both the neurologist and my OB have assured me that vicodin is safe, but of course they are assuming that I'm taking them on an "as desperately needed only" basis, they have no idea how many I'm taking. I have really been beating myself up about my lack of self control, but I can't stop myself. I have 3 kids under the age of 8, work full time, go to school full time and am very active in my church.
I recently found out I am pregnant and was taking about 7 or 8 vicodin a day at the time. I quit cold turkey on Friday, so I have had none Saturday, Sunday or today. Tomorrow starts day 4. I have been miserable. One thing that makes me angry about these boards is that a lot of people tell people who are going through withdrawals to go the ER.
I was prescribed norco for a leg injury and I have taken them on and off for 4 years I have 2 children already and me and my partner want to conceive another child. Its been hard and I don't have much information on the pain medication and pregnancy but I have read that it can cause fertility issues because of the hormone imbalances the pain meds cause!
Does vicodin mess with your fertility? I was dumb enough to try getting pregnant while on vics. My husband and I have been kind of trying the past few months. I quit taking my birth control in may (i know, very dumb) and we have been trying. I kept telling myself that I would quit as soon as I got pregnant. I think somebody was looking out for me because I never did get pregnant.
How many are you taking right now and how often? And congratulations on both your wedding and the pregnancy! I also got married in September...Sept. 1, actually. I had relapsed and wanted desperately to be clean by the wedding so I weaned and got off of them about 3 weeks before the wedding. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself! My husband and I are about to start fertility treatment to try to have a baby. I'm 42 (I'll be 43 in Jan.) and he's 41.
that was way too much. the doc i saw prescribed me vicodin, and seeing me in so much pain gave me huge prescriptions for the pills, with many refills, once even 160 pills with 5 refills. i have never been a "happy" person and found a way to escape with the vikes. over the last few years, i fought it, enjoying the pills when i had my period and then, though i was taking them still after my period was over for a few days, putting the bottle down at some point.
He made it sound like there is a possibility of leaving fertility intact for early stage or borderline cancers if you haven't had kids and have a strong desire to have them. This is probably more true for the borderline tumors versus higher grade malignancies. I have since read several things about this and it seems that in this scenario they take the one ovary now and usually recommend you come back after having kids to have the other removed (usually recommended to have kids right away).
I try to walk a few days a week. I take vicodin for pain, and a week ago I was prescriped morphine drip ( under tongue) when it gets real bad. It is a lonely journey, and we all need one another on this forum; that is a fact. My chemo Topotecan is on a 3-wk cycle. I get Topotecan 5 days a week, then the 2nd week, I get a Nupagin shot Monday through Friday,...and then, I get Aranesp shot(for anemia) every-other-week. God bless all of the sisters dealing with any of this...
so with insulin and with fertility drugs and with my wife's agreement only this can happen, and that too we don't know and not sure whether the IUI will be a success. My wife is 35 and me 39.
And both of them were exposed to Lexapro, and Klonopin. My son also to Vicodin. Please don't stress. Take your meds, and trust your babies will be fine.
I had the Merina IUD inserted a week ago and I am still experiencing heavy cramping and spotting. I have been told by my OB/GYN that the Merina is safe for women who have never had a child and that these symptoms will subside. Does anyone out there use the Merina who has not had children? If so, what are your experiences with it?
2 days later I went into respiratory failure, and was on life support for 10 days,I was told my small bowel ruptured, and I developed peritonitis. My question is, is the small bowel close to my uterus, and could it have been possibly cut during the c-section, or can it rupture on its own?
Anyways that night I suffered from horrific pain on my right side that started in my lower abdomen and shot down into my groin and thigh and knee. I could not go to the Er and I was not bleeding so I thought it was gas/constipation pains. So I took some tylenol and slept on and off all night long. The next day I started spotting pink and brown blood along with the pain. I called my nurse got my results which were only like 1,078.
I tried to search using those key words both on this site and elsewhere, but I want to find an article that my doctor will take seriously. If there are challenges that might be being missed in my routine screening of the thyroid, I want to address them. I am basically not functioning. The sweating has started again and also my movement is out of control. These things seem to be related to my thyroid replacement.
On the plus side, you will have completely normal hormones and fertility from just one healthy ovary, so no need to worry on that score! Hang in there, and keep us posted, especially when you get into recovery!
Also, the indication for Vicodin intake by your boyfriend is also important consideration t make sure that the illness is not indirectly affecting him. WIth regards to Vicodin, this is usually indicated for moderate to severe pain and genitourinary side effects include ureteral spasm or urinary retention but not necessarily fertility issues( ref: http://www.drugs.com/vicodin.html) Take care and do keep us posted.
The Reproductive Endocrinologist who did the ultrasound wants me to have a D and C this week, if possible, so that I can heal and have fertility treatments asap (there's no time to waste due to my age). The ob-gyn surgeon who would do the D and C will do whatever I want, but he thinks I should perhaps wait a couple of weeks to see if the pregnancy passes on its own. Has anyone had a D and C and/or just waited to have a miscarriage? Is a D and C painful?
They only last a few seconds. The build and peak like labor pains. Say I'm in the kitchen and I'll feel it coming on so I have time to brace myself. I'll set down whatever it is i'm holding and get ready. I have to cross my legs, bend my knees, hold on to something, clench my body tight, and try to breathe. Thank God it only lasts a few seconds. My 14 yr. old son witnessed it yesterday and tried to call 911. I kept signaling him not to. I knew it wouldn't last long. My gyno.
We went to the hospital when she had him and weheld him andnamed him and she kept him and two weeks later I found out I am pregnant. I have been on vicodin for years for my artheritis just three a day, or less I try not to take it much because of the pregnancy, But it still makes me worry. I am now 16 wks and showing having to wear maturnity clothes already everything seams fine .
Then went back on after 3 yrs due to dental pain,( altho I have severe back and neck pain, its the dental pain that drove me to madness and took a vicodin and voila back on for 6 more yrs) six yrs later, I went cold turkey due to anxiety lNovember 2011, the three months later, due to another agonizing dental pain, went back on, now its 10 months later, anxiety set in again, so here I am weaning. No more cold turkey for me.

I have reoccurring grade 1 isthmic spondylolisthesis for the last 6 years. Flare-up's are now occurring 2x/year, lasting 2/3 months at a time. My PCP recently referred me to a physiatrist for pain management. After a brief consult the physiatrist switched my PT, stopped my rx for vicodin, and prescribed Lyrica for sciatica. He inquired about the vicodin I was taking. I explained that I'm allergic to aspirin and all NSAID's and it was the only form of relief I had for pain.
I have an infertility doctor who I know is wonderful with fertility drugs and IVF, but the pain management has been poor. Vicodin helps a lot, however, I cannot find anyone to prescribe it for me on a regular basis because it is addictive. I take a half of Vicodin 2 times a day. I dont think thats a problem, and it gives me a better quality life. What is Ponstel?
Lots of pain medication prescribed-vicodin and tylenol w/codeine--but she only takes it when she is almost screaming and crying from the pain as it makes her violently sick which causes great constriction of her abdomen. Excruciating pain by 8 weeks--another ultrasound shows same cyst/fluid but now placenta shows edge bleed w/old blood. Baby still active. Dr. tells her he thinks its nothing to be worried about, but she is scared and now is spotting the old blood.
i have had a very large cist on that ovary removed (8cm long and the width of a grape fruit) and in January i had it checked and was told there was not any more cist on my ovaries, could the CT scan been wrong? also you may want to keep in mind that i am 16, and there is no history of any cancer on my moms side, and i have no idea about any histroy on my dads side.
I was using a heating pad, had an MRI, and electromagnetic stimulation and an ultrasound all on my back. My husband and I were told we couldn't get pregnant without fertility treatments, but even still I took a pregnancy test before taking any medication and it was negative. One week later I went in to have proceedure on my back and as a precaution they gave me a pregnancy test and it came back positive. I only took the medication for 8 days (week 3 and 4), but in total (medication, tests etc.
I have memory loss, brain fog, temporary amnesia and fainting spells. I have two BBAs and a paralegal certification and yet sometime i feel so dumb. There have been times when i have passed up my house because i couldn't remember where i live. Or times when my husband and i would be engaged in a conversation about the previous night and i can't recall anything that happened. Wednesday I came home and cried until i went to sleep because I can't understand what is happening to me.
While in the ER they put me on a morphine drip which barely eased the pain, and since then, I have been prescribed 1000mg of Tylenol twice a day, then switched to Vicodin, and most recently switched to Tylenol with Codeine which feels like its worked best thusfar when I need it. Also, I've remained with Zofran (?
