Avatar m tn I have had coronary heart disease now for 7 years. A stroke in 2004 left me with left side weakness due from a large blood clot. Then another stroke in 2008 from another blood clot that hit behind the left eye. I had angioplasty in 2003 for a 75% and 90% blockage but no stents. After the first stoke I was put on Coumadin and thin soon thereafter put on only two baby aspirin.
Avatar f tn Can blood thinners affect result of HIV blood test and pregnancy test? How does a blood thinner work? Do blood thinners consumption affect all blood tests?
Avatar f tn So it has nothing to do with MS. Viagra increases blood flow and it helps a lot. It will drop your blood pressure and you don't want it to drop to a dangerous level, so you need to monitor it. Start with the minimum effective dose which is 25mg and see if it does something for you. If you wait for a study from the FDA on Viagra for MS, then it will probably happen after you are dead. Please try this now. Viagra has a very good safety profile for a number of years now.
Avatar n tn However understand there is an increased risk for bruising, bleeding, and internal injuries while on blood thinners. It might not be the best time to take up downhill skiing. I hope this helps. In general compassion will help to get someone motivated. If you know someone with circulation issues or diabetes, come along side of them. They usually didn't consciously choose to be that way, and may have emotional issues that are contributing.
Avatar m tn Please do more web searches and DO NOT use Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. I also have RP and ED. I bought L-arginine/Orinithine but am wary about using until I read that it's ok. Blood flow changes seem to be very bad to already bad retinal cells.
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a thallium stress test, and would like to know how the use of viagra or nitro prior to the test would influance the results.
Avatar f tn ) I should have indicated it is my husband who is taking heart meds that discourage taking viagra. Carvedilol strengthens the heart muscle while viagra dilates the blood vessels to allow more blood to flow. The two drugs would work against one another. I am just trying to find out if occasional use of viagra would be safe or a risk to take.
Avatar f tn My husband is on the medication Suboxone and I was needing to know if he can take Viagra with this medicine? We don't want him to take it and go into withdraws or anything so, are the two compatible?
Avatar m tn Viagra(Sildenafil) is a vasodilator (that is, a drug that dilates blood vessels), and consequently it lowers the systolic blood pressure (the "top" number in blood pressure measurements) by an average of 8 mmHg. In the majority of patients with heart disease, including most of those being treated with antihypertensive drugs, this is not a problem.
Avatar m tn The blood thinners you speak of would reduce your platelet count so the initial injury, if bleeding, would want to keep bleeding due to the thinned blood. However, it is your white blood cells that do the healing and they are not affected by blood thinners. So I wouldn't be concerned about it unless you observe that it is taking a REALLY long time to heal.
Avatar n tn Those with mitral vale problems and those who have had the valve repelaced are at increased risk of clot formation. Hence, they need to be on blood thinners. With time, most need a change in dose. Normally patients on blood thinners are kept at an international normalized ratio (INR) of 2.0 to 3.0. If the INR is low or near 1.00, this means the blood is pretty thick and likely to cause clot formation.
Avatar f tn my friend has a generic blood disorder and must take blood thinners daily. she has developed severe back pain and has been instructed to have an epederal for the pain. the docter chosen to give the epederal will not do so until she has not taken blood thinner medication for 5 days. her family doctor is furious and says she can not lay off the thinners. my question is: why would she need to not take the medication just to have an epederal.
Avatar m tn It has helped but it has not solved the problem. I went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription for Viagra, 50 mg. My question is this: Is it safe to occasionally take Viagra if I also take L-Arginine? Are there are any potential contra indications in that Viagra should not be taken by a person who takes L-Arginine? If so, is the contraindication just for that day? In other words, would I be safe if I did not take L-Arginine on the day I took Viagra?
Avatar m tn Im nervous about the procedure because im on blood thinners. What are the risks? Any advice going into this?
Avatar f tn This chemical is made naturally by the body and has the effect of making the veins and arteries relax and widen (dilate). When the blood vessels dilate in this way there is more space inside them and hence less resistance. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.
Avatar n tn Im very confused because I was planning a home birth and my doctor that wants me on blood thinners is 80+ yrs old and tells me I need to be in a hospital to deliver at my apt last week and I was 35weeks. When I asked him why he said so they can blood transfuse me when I start to hemmorage after taking the blood thinners. Im terrified now that im going to bleed to death and wondering if any one else has done this and how they are making out.
Avatar n tn You need to get your INR and prothrombin time done if you are on blood thinners and need to adjust the dose of blood thinner accordingly. Get a stool test for occult or hidden blood to confirm that you have gut bleeding. You could also bleed into the lungs. Hence please consult a doctor immediately and find out if you are bleeding inside, and to rule out other causes of anemia like vitamin B12 deficiency. Take care!
Avatar n tn The Interior lining needs repaired and thinners dont do that. Doctors have no clue. Stents and thinners are all they understand. Then you are on your own to research natural supplements. So what do we do and where to look? Its Scary.

Avatar f tn Ended up in the Hospital for a week, with the clots, etc.. I was tested for blood clotting disorders and have been on blood thinners since Sept. Hospital reading first came back positive for Lupus Anticoagulant, then said it was a false positive. Protein C & S still testing low, but I do not know what that means exactly. Any reason one would just develope unexplained blood clots? Any relation of blood clots to the Graves?
