Vesicare and urinary retention

Common Questions and Answers about Vesicare and urinary retention

vesicare

Avatar n tn Does anyone here have detrusor sphincter dyssynergia or urinary retention and if so how are you treating it?
Avatar m tn t thrilled w/ the doctor in general but she said it was just anxiety and stress. I decided for a 2nd opinion at a urologist and she agreed stress was the biggest culprit but thinks I could also have an OAB. Mind you I had a clean UTI at all the doctors, a good exam at my gyn but she sent me for ultrasound which was normal, and I had blood work done for all things including diabetes. Although my glucose came in at 101 and under 99 is the norm it wasn't cause for concern.
Avatar n tn Urologist ran another urinalysis and did another pelvic ultrasound, again all clean and negative. He gave me 5 mg of Vesicare to take once daily and told me to come back in a month. After 2 weeks, no relief from the Vesicare, so he gave me a 10 mg doseage. I return to see him on Monday (Feb. 11). My problem is, I have had this pain for 4 months now. I don't know what to do about it. I have tried eliminating citrus, acids, caffeine, etc.

Avatar f tn I'm sorry for what your going through. I still have bladder and urinary tract issues. Mainly pain and the urge to go, but when I do go it's not very much. There was a time when I was in so much pain it was unbearable. The urologist ran every test possible. The CT scan, ultrasound and all other tests came back normal. It was the MS and he said there wasn't much he could do for me. As time went by the pain subsided. I still deal with bouts of pain just not as severe.
Avatar m tn Hi, my wife have a difficulty in urinating (Urinary retention). This happens only when she doesn't drink enough water especially during weekend or any off schedules days. She also experience the pain in the back where kidneys are located.Once she starts drinking water, problem resolves in couple of hours. I want to know that how serious is this a problem ? What is the reason and treatments ? Thank you !
Avatar m tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include medication side effect, psychological issues such as anxiety, autonomic or hormonal/ endocrine imbalance, neuro-muscular issues etc. There is no specific time limit before urinary retention becomes an emergency; it usually depends on the amount of urine and more commonly on the severity of symptoms.
Avatar n tn I am 68 years old with slight BPH symptoms (weak stream and two to three times at night). Two weeks ago had bladder retention and went to ER and got Foley put in. Soon there was much blood in urine. Had to go back to ER once to get it irrigated. Later, the blood cleared up and in four days the Foley was out. Urination gradually become normal (as before) without the tight swelling feeling with retention. Urologist did Cystoscopy yesterday and says the prostate appears only slighly enlarged.
Avatar n tn I kept with the Vesicare and when we came back I was pretty depressed to be home and had maybe 2-3 days within 2 weeks I had "issuses" of frequency lasting a few hours but then they went away. As of last Mon 11/1, after 3 weeks on the Vesicare and after being home for 2 weeks Iam 100% back to normal and I can't tell if it's from the Vesicare or because the anxiety from the trip has finally faded out of my body as well as the depression from having to come back home.
Avatar f tn But last week they removed catheter and I had urinary retention with frequent urination . They reinserted the catheter for two more days and again they removed it but the problem of urinary retention persist with frequent urination in every 15 min. Now they have again inserted catheter and will remove it after one week. Pl tell me if the problem will resolve or not.
Avatar m tn I was put on Vesicare 5 mg daily and also was taking fluoxetine for depression and anxiety over this condition. After taking the meds for awhile my symptoms went away and I was symptom free for 3 years. Because of the expense of the vesicare and because I was doing so well. I decided to stop taking both medications. My bladder was fine and normal and then about a year later the symtoms came back. So I am now back on the vesicare and the fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn Yes, definitely MS can cause urinary retention and bed wetting. I've had problems with retention, and urge incontinence (wetting myself when I cough, sneeze, or throw up.) I think I also have problems with fully emptying my bladder, as I've had more UTIs recently.
Avatar f tn Other possibilities could urinary retention, and pelvic masses like an enlarged uterus or uterine fibroids. You should have your doctor check a "postvoid residual" which involved passing a catheter in your bladder after you urinate to see how much is left in your bladder after urinating. If this is normal (less than about 50 cc), then that would not be the problem.
Avatar m tn Started me on Levaquin 500mg PO QD x 7 days and Vesicare 10mg PO QD.The cyst went down but the pain around the epdidymis persisted w/ no change. After 4 weeks of Vesicare I still have no change in my nocturia. I had an ultrasound of my bladder, testicles, kidneys all normal. I then had a cystoscopy done which showed no abnormalities besides a tight sphincter. My urologist told me to continue the Vesicare which I have been doing.

Avatar m tn I experienced urinary retention after removing the catheter the day follow HoLAP. The procedure, necessitated by ongoing BPH symptoms, went smoothly, and I was back home that same day. After enduring 8 hours of retention, a catheter was reinserted with cathetrization to be continued for another 6 to 7 days. There was no indication of infection, although I don't know if a urine culture was even taken. But, I am taking Cipro 500MG twice daily.
Avatar n tn A weak bladder muscle, chronic obstruction, and nerve diseases or injury all can contribute to chronic urinary retention. Please discuss these possibilities with your urologist and check which ones have been ruled out in your case. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn my 3 year old suddenly cannot pass urine he is generally in good health he was admitted to hospital and had an MRI scan,x rays, ultra sound scans and a camera inserted into bladder and to date no cause has been found he was discharged home with a catheter insitu we are for review next week but im worried what will happen next and whats causing this problem
Avatar f tn Has antone had a cysto done for urinary retention? I had a uti 3 weeks ago (which has since healed) but ever since I've had retention anywhere from 50-200cc post void. the urologist suggested a cysto I'm concerned that the irritation from surgery would make things worse. Does anyone have any insight?
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome. Are you female or male?
Avatar f tn I had no pain or burning during urination. However, I tested positive for a urinary tract infection and began on pyridium and bactrim. My symptoms did not improve so I began on Levaquin for 10 days. Since then I have had an ultrasound of my kidneys, ovaries, and bladder, and everything was normal. My labwork was also normal. My symptoms did not improve and I began on Vesicare, which did not help, and now I am on Detrol LA. This does not seem to be helping either.
