Avatar f tn what's up with deep vertical nail ridges? and what are they a sign of? is it parathyroidism too? I have low vit d3 levels and low thyroid. I am now being tested for parathyroid but only after insisting on it because this is the second time in the past year my vit d level dropped under 15. The bone pain in awful. This time around I have it in my right leg and thumbs, last time pain was across my upper back and thumbs as well as other bone locations on the body. Silly isn't it?
Avatar m tn Hi I just want to know what can cause some or all of these combined symptoms, Hair thinning, lost of appetite, a few dark toenails but not all of them, 1 fingernail half light pink half light brown with vertical lines no ridges, wart on ball of both feet and lately some lost of taste (I'm thinking due to thin white film on tongue) I was a Severe smoker until recently when I stopped.
1409672 tn?1281487812 Vertical ridges represent a normal aging pattern, though some people consider the presence of ridges to be an indication of the risk of developing athririts. At any rate it is considered normal and medically insignificant.
Avatar n tn finger nails suddenly growing horizontal dips and vertical ridges.

2178116 tn?1337609281 Perhaps the vertical ridges are normal. I was questioning if that is normal or a symptom of the thyroid not working properly.
Avatar f tn 3- Two days ago I noticed ridges on 2 fingernails while the rest of nails have vertical lines without ridges. Treatment: 1-I went to ENT after my 6 weeks symptoms and he gave me gargle which did not work. 2-After 52 days of last exposure I went to another ENT specialistand I told him about my sexual exposure so he requested Sypillis and anti Hiv tests besides throat swap culture. 3- Throat swap culture shows normal streptococcus bacteria and ENT told me the result is fine.
Avatar m tn I have vertical ridges that have developed on my thumb nails and when I recently went to the dentist she found tartar under the gumline on the back of my teeth and she asked if I was a diabetic? This all may be several pieces leading to nothing but I was wondering if anyone has ever been through anything similar.
Avatar f tn This is oftem caused by getting too much Calcium i have had this too and I realized it was because i was getting too much calcium if you are taking a Calcium supplement and eating alot of dairy you may be over doing it just some advice
Avatar n tn They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.
Avatar n tn s general health. Ridges, pits, thickening or thinning of nails may suggest an underlying infection, kidney disease or nutrient deficiency. In your case, differentials will be a fungal infection, psoriasis or it may be a benign presentation of an underlying infection. Do you have any other associated signs or symptoms like a rash or scaly plaque in other parts of the body?
Avatar f tn I have read that the fingernail ridges could be due to malabsorption. That coupled with the fatty stool makes me think my liver isn't working properly and digesting the fat as it should. I have weighed the same amount since I was 16 years old, and only gained around 20 lbs when I was pregnant. During my pregnancy, I had Intreheptic Cholestasis of Pregnancy, which is a rare liver disorder that occurs only during pregnancy, but it went away after I gave birth.
691935 tn?1421027090 I too had it for the last few years. I keep them short now. Just worked on that janky toenail I've had too. Sandal ready. Uhm, kinda. Mine have ridges too. Another thing I kept asking dr about for years. So- does it get better post tx? My iron is a love hate thing. I had to drop it for tx, but try n get it in my diet. I DID find an iron free multiple vit. That way I can kind of control the dose n not overload liver. My.. Chatty me tonight.
Avatar n tn Hi all, Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am a professional guitar player with growing concerns over the health of my fingernails. Over the past 5 years, I have practiced guitar daily on average of 3-4 hrs a day, with 1 hr a day minimum on "off" days. Since the start, I've noticed that the nail bed (and subsequently the overall length of the nail) of my ring finger on the left (guitar fretting) hand has gradually shortened.
Avatar m tn t know where this should go but I just want to know what can cause some or all of these combined symptoms, Hair thinning, lost of appetite, a few dark toenails but not all of them, 1 fingernail half light pink half light brown with vertical lines no ridges, wart on ball of both feet and lately some lost of taste (I'm thinking due to thin white film on tongue) I was a Severe smoker until recently when I stopped.
Avatar m tn What do the lines look like and are they colored? If you have fingernail fungus the topicals don't work. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
Avatar n tn ve noticed deep vertical ridges in all my fingernails. Some sites suggested thryoid problems and the more I read, the more I started thinking that maybe this is my problem. I eat like a horse. Anything and everything but never gain any weight. My weight has been pretty constant for the last ten years although I eat considerably more these days. Another thing is that I had radiation treatment for acne as a teenager.
Avatar f tn thanks Tiredsleepymama, it took me 3 months to start to feel better. and I still get bad times every now and then. yes I got the vertical ridges on the nail. the anxiety. I lost some hair from temple and ridge but not a major issue. hope you too feel well soon. hang on there. P.S: I changed the profile, didn't pay much attention when I created it.
Avatar f tn Sounds nuerological to me, MS maybe. Dont think that would have anything to do with your nails. Maybe you have two different things going on at once??
Avatar n tn What did your fingernail look like that made them a "dead giveaway"? Also, what enzymes do you take to aid digestion? Thanks!
649848 tn?1534633700 Let's see. I'm down .8 of a pound, so "about" a pound, which is a little bit of a surprise because I had some sweets in the last three days. Guess they weren't enough to counteract generally limiting my dinner intake. I haven't been starving myself, but have been eating less for at least three or four weeks, and it seems to be working at a manageable pace.
