Common Questions and Answers about Vertical fingernail lines

I also have some faint vertical lines. Does anyone have this? Could it be my Armour dose was working for a short time, and now it's not?
I have noticed that on my right thumb I have a small dark colored line going vertically in the middle of my fingernail, also on the same thumb I have about 5 ridges? running horizontal, they don't extend from end to end though. I also have a tiny line on my left index finger near the end of the fingernail. No other ridging on any other nail. Can anybody suggest what this may be? I've been worried for a little while now. Thank you.
My finger nails appearing to be in vertical line, just like the ridges. Firstly it did happen on one of fingers, but later all of them having this symptom. I am worry if something going wrong..
I have been having a strange problem with my fingernails for a while now. I began noticing it about 3 months ago, mainly starting on the ring finger of my left hand, but since then it has spread to pretty much all of my nails in varying degrees.
On the other hand, splinter hemorrhages appear as a red to reddish-brown fine, vertical line that resembles a splinter beneath the nail, this disorder occurs when blood vessels in the nail bed are damaged or from a nail injury. If a dark spot or streak appears on any nail, and is not the result of an injury, it must be examined by a dermatologist to rule out melanoma.
(Yes, I have tried new and larger shoes) Other symptoms on my finger nails are horizontal ridges, not like beau's lines. These are short horizontal lines that look like the nail was damaged but it wasn't, at least not to my knowledge. These are on several fingers and on some nails these horizontal ridges extend in a vertical fashion on the nail from top to bottom. I also have large white half moons on my thumbs and some nails that extend half the nail.
I appear to have developed ridges on my fingernails, they run vertically. Is there a medical reason for these ridges or fine vertical lines on my nails?
Vertical ridges such as you seem to have (running from the cuticle to the fingertip) are not necessarily a sign of any disease. Many people have them and they seem to become more prominent as we age. I can vouch for that. Horizontal lines might be a sign of illness that has caused a slow growth that shows up in the nail (like small rings in trees during a drought). You can ask your doctor if you have a real concern or other symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, etc.
My nails have vertical lines down each of my nails . some of my nails split apart. Also I have red lines in my eyes veins I guess. what is all this?
I have vertical lines present in all of my fingernails. I have also noticed my thumb nails have horizontal divits in them as well as my big toe nails. I am not a nail biter. I do have severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts. I know it's a stretch, but could it all be related? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
What makes my case even more unusual is that it only appears on the left side of my body. The rash only appears on my left hand and foot, it stops at a near perfect vertical line before it crosses my back, chest, or forehead. No doctor I have ever seen has been able to give me an explanation for this. Any ideas? Have any of you ever seen anything like this?
I can recall 1 incident when this line appeared on the bridge of my nose. It was one single line running vertically down. 2. This morning a few thin red lines appeared on my left arm skin (right below my shoulder). These are line red lines that are parallel to one another and 1 or 2 lines intersect the others. Length: 10-15 mm. There was a little burning sensation upon touching these lines. Thanks for any feedback.

ridged on fingernails. What exactly does that mean or look like? Doesn't everybody have lines parallel with the finger on their nails????
My ferritin was at 18 and I felt major affects from that -- very cold, especially hands and feet, extreme fatigue, foggy brained, etc. Check out your fingernails. A little lesser known fact is that vertical raised lines in your fingernails can point to anemia as well as spoon shaped nails. It's called kolynchia if I remember right and I have it. 18 ferritin is low especially for a male.
I have some hypothyroid syptoms like always cold hands, run down feeling and vertical lines in all of my fingernails, My research has shown that hypothyroidism can cause ringing in the ears My thoughts are: Since I lost some hearing in my left ear I probably have had tinnitus for several years but very low where it never bothered me. Last year for some reason something exacebated the tinnitus to increase greatly in volume to where it is making me crazy.
I have had two close dark grey stripes growing vertically from my cuticle bed in my right pointer finger, and one down the middle of my thumb on my right hand for a year. I also haven't felt good. At all. Like I have the flu, and bronchitus all the time. It *****. Energy is down, and the stripes have been so far dismissed. But I turned on my computer and there was an article about ten things you should check every day as a woman for health.
One reason I wanted to respond to you is because last year I noticed a dent or depression-type area in one nail (ring finger) and a barely noticable vertical ridge on my left thumbnail (both appeared about the same time.) I was convinced it was something liver-related. Showed it to the hep doc. He was unimpressed with my barely noticable dent and ridge (mine was truly insignificant compared to some nail changes I've read about.) I was grade 3 stage 2 in 2003, no treatment yet.
i went to a doctor and he prescribed Acyclovir for a week, after a week or so my tongue turned white and hairy with 3 to 4 fissures on the front part of tongue, the sides of my tongue has small vertical lines with little bit whiteness and hard palate of my mouth turned light black or grey with small blisters and are painless. 3 weeks later no change in my tongue and i went to see ENT Doctor and he told me that could be a possible leukoplakia and gave me a compound oral solution.

Pet owners report that cats seem to prefer certain fabrics when scratching (such as the easy to destroy vertical weave of many draperies!). Cats, of course, will also use their claws as a defenses mechanism, swatting at opponents or raking with their rear claws. Because many juvenile cats haven't learned how to play "nice", their play swatting and raking can sometimes take a toll on the owner's skin, or, worse, the skin of a young child.
I found out that covering my right eye causes it to stop. I'm guessing that it is related to the ON, postive VEP and slight vertical diplopia in my right eye. I have some balance issues that I compensate for by depending on my eyes, and things that messes up the visual data can get me a little disoriented and throw my balance off, so I'd guess that could cause nausea in some folks. Heave you had ON or a positive VEP?
The day after seeing the urologist, I went to see my regular doctor, and he said something along the lines of it being irritation/dryness that's causing it and prescribed lotrisone, which is a combination of clotrimazole and betamethazone. My questions: Is lotrisone the right thing to use for my condition? The 1% clotrimazole cream I used earlier didn't work. What effect will combining clotrimazole with betamethasone, a glucocorticoid steroid, have?
Over the next few weeks, my right hand was constantly sweating, became extremely sensitve to cold and I developed vertical lines in my fingernails on the right side only. This was the first time I had ever heard the phrase 'Chronic Pain Syndrom'. I opted NOT to have my left hand operated on. I saw the doc at the pain clinic and had a bone density scan (which was normal) and x-rays (again, normal). He gave me Gaglion (sp?) Blocks which had no effect.
I have had it for two months. It distorts straight lines on a grid in the shape of itself, like it is warping the field. Today I noticed that it has started to dim my vision in the spot. It makes the area within it yellow and dim. I get sparkles in the middle of the spot and I also get intense flashes in the direct center of my vision. I have the flashes about every minute - all day long. I see the spot all day, every day.
At times my chest is tight and breathing feels as if I am trying to pull air through a straw. Nails and skin I have vertical ridges in my fingernails and they are brittle and break off easily in horizontal strips.. almost like they peel off. I break out in small blisters on my hands and arms. My fingers will rash and be raw around my rings for no reason and then it goes away just as fast. I am noticing dry red patches the size of quarters on all areas of my skin.
I also take selenium, magnesium, and zinc for thyroid support, and because of hair loss and fingernail spooning and vertical lines, take biotin, evening primrose oil, Omega-3, and MSM. I really notice when I slack off on the MSM. I tried taking Ashwagandha, but didn't notice it really did anything for me. I take a bunch more too, but those are things I've always taken, like Chromium piccolinate, Vit A, C, and E, lysine and alpha lipoic acid. Dr.
