Avatar m tn Google Venlafaxine Withdrawal Syndrome. You may be lucky and not have a severe reaction to continuing to decrease the dose. All the best.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all. Once before I stopped cold turkey and the brain zaps and other withdrawals lasted 2 weeks. If you look up 'How Long Does Effexor Withdrawal Last', you will find over 930 replies to that question. Did you lower your dose slowly? I went from 150mg to 10mg over those 10 months so I would not get any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn On averge 2 to 4 weeks give or take.
Avatar n tn Sudden withdrawal from venlafaxine can lead to the withdrawal symptoms you describe. It should not be discontinued suddenly, instead he should go down to 37.5mg for a time before coming off it. Or, his doctor might consider changing him to a different anti-depressant without as many withdrawal symptoms,(Prozac, citalopram ?) then coming off that. Venlafaxine (Exeffor) is usually prescribed for major depression, in emergencies, or when other anti-depressants have been ineffective.
Avatar n tn I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine? Has anyone experienced similar effects after stopping this drug?
Avatar n tn thanks. someone tolf me yhe first two weeks are the most difficult, and some take a whole year to return to normal. Why is this drug still prescribed? i agree this drug help me a lot, but the hangover is terrible. i even tought on going back to effexor. that´s why so many people don't leave AD medications. I'm gonna a make it. despite the withdrawal symptoms I'm incredibly confidant and i'm leaving AD forever.
Avatar n tn This is why you should always see a psychiatrist who has a lot of experience of and understanding of withdrawal when you want to quit a med. Most docs don't know, and even most psychiatrists don't. It's golden when you find one who takes this seriously and helps you through it step by step.
Avatar f tn Okay, first, why don't you have health insurance? It's the law that you do get it, and if you have little money, the subsidies make it almost free. But I fear that won't necessarily give you a great psychiatrist, and if you're seeing general practitioners, they really don't have much experience with medication.
Avatar f tn I want to warn you, though, that getting on venlafaxine is not too hard, but getting off of it is very difficult. I was on it years ago for depression and the withdrawal symptoms took me about a month to get through.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
Avatar n tn Let us know how you get on. Hope it works with no withdrawal symptoms. I do know that the very slow taper worked for me.
Avatar n tn I started taking venlafaxine for the sudden onslaught of menopausal symptoms caused by my hysterectomy. The hot flashes were constant and unbearable. It worked wonders! I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it.
Avatar f tn I had been on Venlafaxine for a number of years. First, at 75 mg and then eventually down to 32.5 mg. I consulted my doctor and at my request, decided I would discontinue the medication. She suggested I cut my dosage in half every two days. This did not work as I felt very ill and decided to cut dosage every two-three weeks. Three months later, I am off the medication completely. However, ever since I started decreasing the dosage, my mood and emotions have been unsteady, to stay the least.
Avatar f tn t know what patients this person has, but you went off this drug way too quickly. Withdrawal can last a short time, a medium time, not time at all, or forever. It depends entirely on the person and how well your brain can adapt to going back to working naturally. If it were me, I'd play it safe, go back on the last dose at which you felt fine, and taper off as slowly as you need to.
309783 tn?1271958229 Oh, if 75Mgs did the trick for your depression then you will be fine. My dosage of Effexor XR (when I was on it) was 350Mgs a day and even then I had to augment that with another drug just to put a dent in my Refractory depression. You have plenty of room to work with on your dosage. I would kill to be as responsive to antidepressants as you are. I hate having to take such high dosages.
Avatar f tn excessive worrying that is difficult to control), social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life), and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks). Venlafaxine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).
Avatar n tn t think I was crazy and gave me 6 pills from a different batch- all withdrawal symptoms disappeared in less than 2 hours!!! What is frightening to me are the following two things: 1. I am a very high functioning person. It took me seven days to follow my gut, stick to my guns and demand replacement pills. What would have happened to a less confident or less functional person? 2. The withdrawals are horrible! I now have a deeper understanding of why a drug addict would stay a drug addict.
Avatar f tn Thank you for replying to my question. I don't think it's malabsorbtion. The leaflet says the pill will pass in your stools, but the venlafaxine will have come out of the tablet. I am now on the soft gel capsules and guess I am back at waiting for 4-6 weeks for them to work as this is what I have been they will take 4 - 6 weeks to work. Thanks again.
1270834 tn?1270769758 Wow, what a relief, I am currently having a problem with pain in my stomach and acid reflux. Literally just took a sample of my stool and noticed the white dots. As like everyone else, I panicked and went straight to the internet to try self diagnose until I got results. Found this chain of discussion and what a relief!!! I also take Venlafaxine/Effexor and you are 100000% correct. It matches what s written on the leaflet given to patients when they start taking the medication.
Avatar m tn s on a drug like this adapting back to working naturally. Sometimes it takes a really long time, sometimes a really short time, sometimes never, sometimes a medium time. Because nobody can predict how hard this will be for them as an individual it's always best not to quit cold turkey, particularly two drugs at once.
632919 tn?1252774093 Right now, my pdoc and I decided that it might be beneficial to try a med washout period. So, I have been trying to get off Effexor for the last few weeks. I had been on 75mg since November. I started by alternating 75mg one day with 37.5mg the next, then 37.5mg for one week, then 37.5mg every other day. I didn't make it a week with 37.5mg every other day because the withdrawal was so bad. So now I am taking 25mg generic immediate-release venlafaxine for one week, then 12.
Avatar f tn I have even read where people open the capsules and take out a few beads at a time to reduce their intake very slowly. It would be interesting to know if there are the same amount of beads in each capsule but I'm not going to count mine, YET.
Avatar n tn hia i am on venlafaxine, i been on it for a while, it normaly helps me, but 4 the last fewweeks i been feeling really good, but now i feel ill all the time and suicidal , and also my nan has got bipolar, i was wondering if it runs in the family?
Avatar n tn Day 2 of withdrawal from venlafaxine 75 mgs. Having vomiting, nausea and brain zaps. How long will this last???
