Avatar m tn Hi Sam , one of the best ways to handle withdrawal symptoms is to BE PREPARED. Spend some time on the net investigating common effects , so that you'll be able to recognize the symptoms as just that , withdrawal symptoms. These can include crying spells , feelings of hopelessness and depression , as well as physical symptoms. Google Venlafaxine Withdrawal Syndrome. You may be lucky and not have a severe reaction to continuing to decrease the dose. All the best.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all. Once before I stopped cold turkey and the brain zaps and other withdrawals lasted 2 weeks. If you look up 'How Long Does Effexor Withdrawal Last', you will find over 930 replies to that question. Did you lower your dose slowly? I went from 150mg to 10mg over those 10 months so I would not get any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn On averge 2 to 4 weeks give or take.
Avatar n tn Sudden withdrawal from venlafaxine can lead to the withdrawal symptoms you describe. It should not be discontinued suddenly, instead he should go down to 37.5mg for a time before coming off it. Or, his doctor might consider changing him to a different anti-depressant without as many withdrawal symptoms,(Prozac, citalopram ?) then coming off that. Venlafaxine (Exeffor) is usually prescribed for major depression, in emergencies, or when other anti-depressants have been ineffective.
Avatar n tn I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine? Has anyone experienced similar effects after stopping this drug?
Avatar n tn for the first time since i come off Effexor i feel great... i feel no withdrawal symptoms. this is my 10th day without venlafaxine. i'm full of energy. and i feel great cause i'm beginning to win this battle. my dizziness is gone. that first days anxiety has normalized, I really believe now that it's possible to survive effexor withdrawal. usually depression has an environmental cause. try do find yourse and fight it. the human mind is very powerfull.
Avatar f tn Okay, first, why don't you have health insurance? It's the law that you do get it, and if you have little money, the subsidies make it almost free. But I fear that won't necessarily give you a great psychiatrist, and if you're seeing general practitioners, they really don't have much experience with medication.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar n tn Let us know how you get on. Hope it works with no withdrawal symptoms. I do know that the very slow taper worked for me.
Avatar n tn I started taking venlafaxine for the sudden onslaught of menopausal symptoms caused by my hysterectomy. The hot flashes were constant and unbearable. It worked wonders! I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it.
Avatar f tn I steered patients away from Venlafaxine for the very reason you stated...severe withdrawal symptoms. When slowly taking patients off of it I would typically give them low dose Prozac (Fluoxetine) which eases the withdrawal and then discontinue the Prozac which has almost no issues. In your case you are probably past the worst of it but it may take weeks before your symptoms resolve.
309783 tn?1271958229 Oh, if 75Mgs did the trick for your depression then you will be fine. My dosage of Effexor XR (when I was on it) was 350Mgs a day and even then I had to augment that with another drug just to put a dent in my Refractory depression. You have plenty of room to work with on your dosage. I would kill to be as responsive to antidepressants as you are. I hate having to take such high dosages.
Avatar f tn If you suddenly stop taking venlafaxine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as agitation; anxiety; confusion; sad mood; irritability; frenzied or abnormal excitement; lack of coordination; trouble falling asleep or staying asleep; nightmares; nausea; vomiting; loss of appetite; diarrhea; dry mouth; sweating; ringing in the ears; seizures; or burning, tingling, numbness, or electric shock-like feelings in any part of the body.
Avatar n tn t think I was crazy and gave me 6 pills from a different batch- all withdrawal symptoms disappeared in less than 2 hours!!! What is frightening to me are the following two things: 1. I am a very high functioning person. It took me seven days to follow my gut, stick to my guns and demand replacement pills. What would have happened to a less confident or less functional person? 2. The withdrawals are horrible! I now have a deeper understanding of why a drug addict would stay a drug addict.
Avatar f tn Thank you for replying to my question. I don't think it's malabsorbtion. The leaflet says the pill will pass in your stools, but the venlafaxine will have come out of the tablet. I am now on the soft gel capsules and guess I am back at waiting for 4-6 weeks for them to work as this is what I have been they will take 4 - 6 weeks to work. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn This is associated with a withdrawal syndrome and since your doctor is trying to wean you off it after 10 long years of therapy. The most common symptoms of effexor withdrawal are dizziness, electric shock like feelings, brain fog, and shock like symptoms in head, shoulders and arms. The side effects associated with it are insomnia, weight gain, night mares, extra pyramidal symptoms like dystonias, etc. you need to deal with this drug with the help of your neurologist. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn re on these drugs receptor sites for targeted neurotransmitters turn off because the brain no longer deems them necessary, and when we go off these drugs these receptors try to reawaken. This is believed to be the cause of much of the withdrawal symptoms, and the brain has a very hard time the longer one's on a drug like this adapting back to working naturally. Sometimes it takes a really long time, sometimes a really short time, sometimes never, sometimes a medium time.
632919 tn?1252774093 Right now, my pdoc and I decided that it might be beneficial to try a med washout period. So, I have been trying to get off Effexor for the last few weeks. I had been on 75mg since November. I started by alternating 75mg one day with 37.5mg the next, then 37.5mg for one week, then 37.5mg every other day. I didn't make it a week with 37.5mg every other day because the withdrawal was so bad. So now I am taking 25mg generic immediate-release venlafaxine for one week, then 12.
Avatar f tn I was in an auto accident 15 years ago! It ended my career and caused me to have two nervous breakdowns back to back. The doctors had me on so much medication I did not know my name or anyone else. After several years my memory started coming back. I was able to find some sanity that I could grab ahold of and I began to take notice of meds that I was taking. I began weaning myself off this and that.
Avatar n tn I had the same problems with both Effexor and Venlafaxine so my psychiatrist added Wellbutrin extended release and this eased the symptoms significantly as I was also feeling depressed and suicidal. This made me feel better for a while and then these meds seemed to stop working - I am in still in the process of "mixing and matching" medications. But I found no significant difference between the Effexor and Venlafaxine.
Avatar n tn Day 2 of withdrawal from venlafaxine 75 mgs. Having vomiting, nausea and brain zaps. How long will this last???
Avatar m tn You are going to have some side effects, as your brain has been working artificially for a while now and receptors for neurotransmitters that have turned off while you were on the drug, as the brain believed them to be no longer necessary, are trying to turn back on. This can take time and also produce the symptoms of withdrawal. Just take it slowly, don't rush it, and I believe, because you know ahead of time there is a problem doing this, you'll be fine.
1910757 tn?1348683319 t want to take Venlafaxine, she got pissed and told me I was overreacting and that she had never had any withdrawal symptoms on Venlafaxine. So, apparently my choices are taking Venlafaxine or just weaning off this is stuff, which I'm really considering, since following my treatment with Sertraline seems out of question...
