Venlafaxine weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Venlafaxine weight gain

effexor

Avatar n tn Does Effexor xr promote weight gain or loss? Also, it is sooooooooo expensive, is there an alternative?
Avatar n tn I'm sorry that this is an issue you are dealing with. Psychiatric medications are well-known for affecting weight ,as if being unwell wasn't enough to worry about ,weight gain can really affect many people too. There are many ways you can help yourself and noticing how a medication affects you is an important place to start. Medication affects us all differently and side effects are something that we have to deal with but that can in most cases be overcome.
Avatar f tn I found they are the least in all weigh gain kind of meds...I did gain some weight at the beginning but then it just got there and stopped. As long as there is no break in these....it helps with cycling. Lamotrogine needs to be "upped" to a good level and monitored and the lith levels in your blood need to be tested to make sure you are good there as well.
Avatar f tn Never considered effexor xr/venlafaxine as i was so put off with the reviews of weight gain and the awful discontinuation symptoms. Prozac was great but major weight gain in two months. i need one that works without serious side effects and no weight gain. Setraline would be perfect if it wasn't causing heart probs.
2030769 tn?1343647674 I have put on masses of weight with Effexor. I try to eat sensibly, but find the weight hard to lose. I stopped the drug for a year and lost all the weight gain. I had to start it again because of bad depression, and all the weight piled back on. I do believe this drug makes some of us gain weight. I have seen on here that others say they lost weight. I presume we are all different in our reaction to the same drug.
Avatar f tn 00AM You have to make sure that your weight gain is fat gain or water retention, if in fact, your caloric intake is as low as you think. Its impossible to gain real fat without an excess of calories so be sure that you are counting everything. The other explanation is that the emotions of withdrawal sometimes lead you to change of your regular habits, i.e. caloric expenditure. Have you been exercising less or been sedentary more.
722467 tn?1231360966 Venlafaxine seems to cause a slight gain in weight initially in a lot of people, although this should stabilise fairly quickly. In a few individuals, it seems to decrease appetite. There's quite a strong case for wondering whether it's the listlessness, carbohydrate cravings and general matabolic slowdown that are part-and-parcel of depression that are the primary cause of any increase in weight, as JJ11 suggests.
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
Avatar n tn • the Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline (Elavil), Imipramine (Tofranil), and Doxepin (Sinequan) • the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Isocarboxazid (Marplan) and Phenelzine (Nardil) • the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paroxetine (Paxil) • the atypical anti-depressants such as Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone.
Avatar m tn As far as the weight gain, Effexor, Seroquel, and psychiatric med that people say make them gain weight, the weight gain is usually a side affect of a side affect. Let me explain. I didn't gain weight on Effexor, but I was only on it for 5 months, and was physically sick with a bad gall bladder at the time, AND was extremely busy opening a new store, so food was the last thing on my mind.
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed Cipralex (Lexapro) and was wondering if anyone could tell me how effective this medication is in treating depression/anxiety. Have you found it helpful and has it caused side effects such as weight gain and insomnia? I've heard it's a weight neutral antidepressant but the label says weight gain is one of the most frequent side effects.
Avatar f tn I know the weight gain is an unpleasant factor for some people, but for ME, in my opinion, I think it is a worth trade off, especially because you're feeling so much better mentally. You can try to adjust your diet and increase your exercise regimen first, that may at least hold your weight steady with no further increases. Just give it lots of thought. Sometimes some extra pounds are WELL worth getting some peace mentally!
Avatar f tn my doctor has been pressuring me to gain weight. now since i had to go back on the venlafaxine i am feeling nauseaous and my head is hurting. I am going to call my doctor and talk to his nurse to see what they can do. thank you but i dont think my insurance will approve it. they only pay for generics. tammy goes to her HMR weednesday i am going to ask her doctor if there is any way i can apply for help witth my meds. thank you for being here for me.
Avatar f tn Yes I gained a fair amount of weight on Depakoate (another brand name for Epilim) and Seroquel. I do know I had less of a problem with weight gain with Lamictal and that among the current generation of antipsychotics, Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are the least likely to cause weight gain but each person responds differently to each medication. Ask your psychiatrist about available options.
Avatar f tn I totally have this issue. I was on Sertraline (aka Zoloft) for about 4yrs and it realized it wasn't working as well, so my Dr switched me to Effexor, but prescribed me Venlafaxine. Since then, I had a weight gain of about 30lbs!!! I've been told by my family that I need to stop eating... I haven't changed my diet, but I've tried exercising, weightloss programs, and nothing works! It totally *****! I am wondering if I should make the switch to brand name.
1441157 tn?1284075251 I get triggers. What can I take for depression with low side effects? Like no weight gain and sexual disfuction. I can't take Wellbutrin. Paxil took my life away for ten years, I gained weight and was a zombie in bed all the time. Can my Lamictal be increased and maybe a new anxiety med. I take only 10 mg of Elavil for Fibromyalgia. Desperate in AZ.
Avatar f tn The main side effects I am looking to avoid is low libido, emotional numbing as I already have that, and weight gain.
Avatar f tn The side effects associated with it are insomnia, weight gain, night mares, extra pyramidal symptoms like dystonias, etc. you need to deal with this drug with the help of your neurologist. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Remeron causes most people who use it to eat constantly, especially carbs, and causes the most weight gain of all antidepressants for the most people. If it's not doing that to you, that's fine, but I just mention it because it's hard to believe a psychiatrist would give you that if you're diabetic. But my main point still stands, you haven't said if you have a mental illness. You have stated you have a hormonal imbalance.
Avatar m tn I was just wondering if any one had any personal experiences they could share with me regarding their Remeron experience. Will I gain weight? How bad would withdrawals be? Do the side effects eventually subside?
1268921 tn?1288919056 As bibigirl12_10 has said, cyrproheptadine is an antihistamine, but it works WONDERS for my migraines. It's the first med that I was put on, and every time somebody (idiotically) tries to take me off it, I promptly get the Migraine of Doom that will last for up to several months. So it's definitely a good one to try. Does your doc know how much weight you've gained? I would definitely tell your doc, if you haven't already, about the weight gain.
Avatar f tn Seroquel on the other hand worked for a while perfectly, right now nothing is working on me but Seroquel was a dream and is a great drug, aside from weight gain :) right now im working on trying to stay out of hospital and a drugs change as I like Seroquel and tolerate it well.
