Venlafaxine weaning

Common Questions and Answers about Venlafaxine weaning

effexor

When I tried to talk to her about why I don't want to take Venlafaxine, she got pissed and told me I was overreacting and that she had never had any withdrawal symptoms on Venlafaxine. So, apparently my choices are taking Venlafaxine or just weaning off this is stuff, which I'm really considering, since following my treatment with Sertraline seems out of question...
When I got my last prescription I was given viepax and today was given venlafaxine hydrochloride. I have had low mood since changing even though my GP says that venladaxine is the active ingredient in all of them. Can anyone help?
I have all these side effects PRIOR to weaning. I take my pills late and this is what happens. I'm only on 75mg and today is my first day weaning. I have the pressed pill, not capsule. I will shave a bit off the pill gradually, I'll post as i continue to wean off this awful drug.
My doctor is slowly weaning me of Effexor XL 150mg daily. She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. I know Venlafaxine, is supposed to be the same as Effexor, but I don't think it is - at least my body said it was different!! I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine.
Treatment with either drug at doses that did not cause maternal toxicity (fluoxetine 8 mg/kg/d and venlafaxine 40 mg/kg/d) led to a reduction in birth weight. By weaning at postnatal day 25, body weight was the same in all treated and control groups. The presence in amniotic fluid of venlafaxine and its active metabolite O-desmethylvenlafaxine was demonstrated in a small study (n = 27) (8).
It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
How long does the withdrawal symptoms last from Venlafaxine if I had to stop them suddenlly?
I have been diagnosed with spinal myoclonus I started to jerk about 4 years ago, all tests,MRI of brain and spine, LP, blood tests etc come back normal, I have suffered depression for 10 years and take venlafaxine which I was told could cause myoclonus. I have been taking clonazepam which settled jerks down enough for me to get sleep at night but I have now been changed onto Keppra and am weaning off clonazepam.
doc added the Effexor (venlafaxine 225mg). I have had some bad anxiety for a while now and never stopped smoking, bite my nails like crazy, can't sleep, speedy, bitchy, etc....mind you i have always been stressed. does this sound familiar to anyone. I ran out of Welli about 10 days ago and am still on the V. and am feeling better and sleeping somewhat. I am wondering do i go get more W. or stay like this....mmmm. Any stories, suggestions, or criticism welcome!
thats gotta be rough , i ended up single right before i tried getting off of xanex and being alone and trying to get off is no fun at all , i am still in the process and its not easy but i can tell you that it will get better as long as you taper the klonopin , make sure you have some kind of support it is crucial in the weaning phase of klonopin you will need much moral support and if you dont have any use these forums often !!!!
This lithium is not prescribed by my psychiatrist who instead wants me to take 450 mg of venlafaxine. The fact that I was taking 600 mg of venlafaxine in February, and it didn’t work then, doesn’t seem to matter to him. My plan is to continue on 600 mg of lithium for the next 3 weeks, and if I feel better, tell my psychiatrist to put me on it officially, so that I can monitor the plasma level, kidney function, thyroid function, etc.
I have been taking effexor for at least 10 years. My doctor started weaning me off it because I was really having memory problems and it wasn't helping for the depression anymore. I am also prescribed 2mg of xanax. The first 2 weeks I started weaning off the effexor (lower dose and new anti depressant), was great. The fogginess in my head went away and I felt like I was part of the living again. But now I am completely off effexor and I am a nervous wreck. I have lost my job and I cry a lot.
Began dosuliphin 25 daily and will combine with the prozac (60mg) and gradually increase and decrease as directed and agreed. Bit worried about the side effects -weight gain, excessive yawning as well as weaning myself off the prozac as had bad experience with ssri in the past, but only really 3rd Ad used since 1992, as previously built up dosage on seroxat and prozac.
I was able to find some sanity that I could grab ahold of and I began to take notice of meds that I was taking. I began weaning myself off this and that. I found a wonderful Christian family doctor that cared more for his patients than just giving a quick fix. He has helped me thru this journey with withdrawals. I am now down to 150mg of Venlafaxine. However, every time I get lower than that I get very ill. I don't feel like I'm depressed and I really want off this med.
Before she gets started, I was wondering if the physician's instructions seem reasonable or if there should be some type of weaning on/off schedule. It also seems to be a huge difference in dosage- or is that simply because of the nature of the drug itself? Mom is also saying that this is more expensive and I am worried she will just stop taking the Effexor when the time comes to renew. This is a scary thought having read several remarks regarding "coming off'" this med.
com/pro/venlafaxine-er.html Symptoms associated with discontinuation of venlafaxine hydrochloride extended-release capsules, other SNRI's, and SSRI's have been reported [see Warnings and Precautions (5.6)]. Patients should be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible.
Ask your physician whether you would need to titrate up on another antidepressant as you ramp down on venlafaxine. The last 75-150 mg of venlafaxine is supposedly the most difficult in terms of withdrawal. 3. Mixed State: Being angry, tearful, general emotional lability and suicidal ideation were issue for me also. I accidentally discovered aripiprazole (Abilify) which is an atypical antipsychotic, but at very low dozes (5-10 mg) is used as a mood-stabilzer in mood disorders.
read this ASAP "How to get off Effexor symptom free": http://www.topix.com/forum/drug/effexor/T5BFCFPKBBB0625NP Effexor is notorious for being extremely troublesome to wean off. It has a very short half life and needs to be withdrawn very very very gradually to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms. (Of course they don't tell you that when they put you ON the medication.) Some options for getting it cheaper in the meantime so you can wean off: - Get the generic.
I got them from abroad and my doctor does not know I am on them. I also take Venlafaxine 75 mg morning and 37.5 mg at night. My question is how do I wean off the diazepam. My tablets cannot be separated as they are in capsule form. I really want to stop them but cannot visit my doctor. Could I just stop taking them? Or take them every other night for a week and then stop? Your advice would be valuable.
whodunnit is right ALL antidepressants should be weaned off when quitting but effexor especially. I am in the process of weaning off effexor right now and I have no withdrawal symptoms. I suggest you see your doctor (if he is not supportive find another one) and tell him/her you want off effexor and they will help you to quit gradually.
I used to take 300Mgs a day of Effexor XR for 4 years (before it pooped out on me) Anyway there is something that you need to know about Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) that is that at or below the 150Mg dosage mark Effexor is simply just another SSRI and has no SNRI action. With Effexor the Norephineperine mechanism of action does not take place unless the patient is taking at least 225Mgs a day. In most cases 300Mgs a day.
I came off effexor cold turkey in May 2010 Gp's fault and am now weaning off dolsulipin should be off April 30th 2012 with any luck. Have you had to rediscover yourself and reassess people who are around you etc? Thers a feeling of being reborn and of waking up after along sleep !
Research shows that, not suprisingly, those of us with acne and rosacea are more prone to depression and anxiety. I was prescribed Venlafaxine (Effexor) to help me deal with the anxiety and social phobia I felt due to my acne. It has really helped me, and not increased my acne. Acne is not mentioned as a potential side effect of Effexor in the leaflet enclosed with the pills. DO NOT stop taking Effexor suddenly because serious withdrawal symptoms may occur.
It can occur with all the commonly used headache medications such as ibuprofen, triptans (such as imitrex), fioricet, and commonly with any type of narcotic such as tylenol #3, dilaudid, percocet, etc. The treatment is difficult, but basically involves weaning off the offending agent and replacing it with another that is later weaned off, combined with a more long-term solution.
These two meds do not mix well together. That's why it's important to reduce the level of Venlafaxine (Effexor) in your system before starting the Cymbalta.
In contrast to your experiences, Venlafaxine helped me through a very difficult period of my life with virtually no side effects (just a little bit of constipation). I reduced from 150mg per day to 75mg per day with no side effects. When I reduced from 75mg to 37.5mg I was sick once. Eloise.
Going from no sleep to excessive sleep, it really was dreadful- it then put me behind on all the upkeep of our home- relying on my poor husband, making me even more down. Weaning myself off the medication was horrible too- the medications I were on around that time were Citalopram, which was then switched to Venlafaxine & Trazadone. I was referred to see someone & have cognitive therapy, but the time it took to be referred and get things underway it didn’t seem beneficial.
I see you are on Venlafaxine not Celexa. All these drugs have to be treated on their own, so there is no rule for all. I posted official FDA info on how to taper from it on your other post that is 21 hours old in the Dep Comm .
Older SSRIs similar to lexapro include citalopram with a narrow side effect profile. However, newer SSRIs, such as venlafaxine and duloxetine, have fewer side effects. Additionally, if you feel SSRIs, as a group, tend to cause this problem, you can discuss alternative therapies with your prescribing doctor. You will need to keep you fluid intake on the higher side in view of the potential to develop renal complications.
