effexor

Avatar m tn In general, the newer antidepressants (SSRI and SNRI) do not prolong QT interval so much. A possible exception is citalopram (and escitalopram). As far as I know, paroxetine and vortioxetine are fairly safe. How long is your QT interval?
Avatar f tn adverse effects related to effexor(venlafaxine) are nausea, somnolence, sweating dizziness, anxiety, sexual disturbances and hypertension

Avatar f tn I was recently withdrawn from Venlafaxine 300mgs. bd and had a rough time with sweats and feeling freezing along with nervous system side effects. My GP prescribed me Duloxitine 20mgs. a couple of weeks ago but they didn't appear to be making any difference so I stopped them a week ago. My sister has depression and takes Amitriptylline with good effect. Do you think I ought to request the same from my GP?
Avatar m tn My husband has atrial fibralation and is taking Tikosyn, Eliquis, Carvedilol, And Tamsulosin. He has recently been diagnosed with GAD, what SSRI can he take safely with his other meds to help with anxiety and depression, anxiety is a big problem.
Avatar f tn hi do u think that the prozac (snri) may not help or even not work as it's an snri and not a ssri like the effexor. what is the best ssri to have a try if the effexor didn't work for me. why would my doctor swtich me from an ssri to an snri if he knows it may not help with my anxiety. iv never been depressed just had a panic attack in 2008 which caused me to have sleep problems.and thats when i was put on an anti depressant which sum people think they shouldn't have done.
Avatar f tn Ive been on Venlafaxine for about 2 years. Im now down to 37.5 every other day, which I know is an incredibly low dose, but if I try going any longer without them I get the dizziness or brain shivers. As others will know - its awful! I lasted about 4 days before, but the dizziness did not let up for the whole 4 days, so I gave in and took a tablet - the dizziness stopped within 30 mins!
1305597 tn?1275336446 in the SSRI family: citalopram (celexa), fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline (zoloft). Another medication that is sometimes added to SSRI in the treatment of depression is bupropion (welbutrin) and it has even been shown to cause a small weight loss over the first few months (it suppresses the appetite).
Avatar m tn okay, So i just got my prescription for vanlafaxine, i'm nervous about taking it though. I've always been afraid to take new medicines, and this one is an SNRI as opposed to a SSRI which I was taking I believe. whats the difference? should I worry? and is it safe to take the vanlafaxine so soon after stopping the citalapram? i just took my last citalapram yesterday around this time. Anyways, i'm nervous, any advice?
Avatar n tn Does anyone take an anxiety medicine?.....My regular physician mentioned some, one was called Venlafaxine, another was Adavant?? (think that's it), that would be an option, but I haven't tried either yet, and he hasn't prescribed one....But those were a couple of the choices....
Avatar f tn in the case of Effexor (Venlafaxine) it is ok to start most SSRI meds (Including Paxil) without first tapering down on the Effexor. In fact many people take Effexor along with an SSRI med as part of their treatment. Effexor is different enough from Paxil that the odds of an adverse interaction is very uncommon. Now you would not be able to do the same with another SSRI like Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, ect.
Avatar f tn You will most likely go through some pretty nasty withdrawals. Even moving from one SSRI to another SSRI, you should taper off one while coming up on the other.
Avatar n tn Not all SSRI (like Paxil) cause weight gain for all patients. But one study suggested that there might be differences in weight gain due to the different types of SSRI. Paroxetine (Paxil) may be more likely cause a significant weight gain than other drugs of this type (like fluoxetine or sertraline). Studies about citalopram found no significant weight changes for most patients (but a minority of about 5% of the patients had a weight gain of more than 5 kg).
Avatar m tn They are essentially three different classes of antidepressants. MAOI, which are the older drugs before the newer ones came to the market. SSRI and NDRI. The SSRI and MAOI are the hardest to taper off of. Your drug is a SSRI. Therefore one of the harder ones to wean self off. No drug should be stopped cold turkey, never. Now what Paxiled has commented is true. I was on Paxil back in the 90s, horrific drug to get off.
Avatar m tn If you read the indications and contraindications for Lexapro , you will note that this SSRI can--rarely--cause either high OR low blood pressure, as well as many other side effects. SSRIs that are better known for causing hypertension are Buproprion (Wellbutrin, Zyban), Venlafaxine (Effexor), and Phenelzine (Nardil): http://highbloodpressure.about.com/od/lifeafterdiagnosis/a/antidepressants.
Avatar n tn About 30% of women on tamoxifen also take an SSRI for depression or hot flashes. FDA will add new warnings..and Medco is alerting physicians if a woman on tamoxifen gets paroxetine, fluoxetine, or sertraline. Suggest using one of the other SSRIs or venlafaxine if needed for depression or hot flashes.
Avatar f tn It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Avatar f tn No, Paxil can't be tapered to another ssri anymore than Effexor can be tapered to another snri. Same theory should apply, shouldn't it? One of the reasons for this is that Paxil is just stronger than any other antidepressant in its affinity for both choline and serotonin receptors.
Avatar m tn Member ChrisTroup said: I would urge ANYONE who has chronic diarrhea associated with SSRI use to go to their doctor and insist on being tested for Microscopic Colitis. Long story short, I was diagnosed with collagenous/microscopic colitis. Since then, I've tried to manage it the best I can with diet, medication, and lifestyle changes. My GI doctor had me on Lomotil for a long time. And it was ok. I am now close to finishing my second round and Entocort has done wonders.
1110049 tn?1409402144 She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. I know Venlafaxine, is supposed to be the same as Effexor, but I don't think it is - at least my body said it was different!! I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine. How do I reduce from 37.5mg Venlafaxine?
