Venlafaxine side effects withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Venlafaxine side effects withdrawal

effexor

Avatar f tn I tried Effexor for only three days when it was given to me to treat migraines and I couldn't tolerate the side effects. Don't remember now what all they were- just that it was intolerable for me. It wasn't given to me for POTS- it was before I was diagnosed with POTS I tried it.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg for 14 years and had tried several times to come off this antidepressant, without success. VENLAFAXINE really helped my depression and anxiety, however it has some nasty side effects and is VERY difficult to get off. Although I've been off the drug for a couple of months, I still feel pretty rough most days. I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine?
Avatar n tn During all of this time I have been for the most part stable. missing a dose has immediate side effects which I actually appreciated because it would remind me to take the drug. Last week I began a new bottle. It took me SEVEN days to figure out what was going on. For the first time in my life, I got a bad batch of drugs.
Avatar f tn Yes some anti-depressants do give people side effects. I have been on quite a few I could not tolerate. Luckily I do not have side effects from Effexor. My sleep is restless, but as I do not have to go to work the next day, I am lucky. If I feel tired during the day I have a little nap. I like playing games on my computer, watching TV and reading, nothing wrong with that. Do you get out much?
Avatar n tn Hi, Venlafaxine side effect withdrawal can take 6-8 weeks for the more severe to leave the system. If you do a search you will see how the less severe side effects can actually take up to a year depending on the person, the dosage and how long they were on it. Give your doctor a call and discuss it with him. He will have the best advice knowing your history.
Avatar f tn Is having side effects a good sign the meds trying to work on day 3 and managing to put up with them for now slight head ache but more the dry mouth and horrible taste just wanting people's opinions on this and is it good that I'm experiencing day 3 of switching straight over from another that caused side effects for the 5 weeks I was on them and couldn't take it anymore Thanks
Avatar n tn I was on the regular effexor, and I would not reccommend it to anyone else. Severe side effects and disturbing withdrawal effects if you don't take it at the same time each day, or worse, miss a day. The withdrawal effects render you almost non-functional. Effexor ER would be much more manageable and less likely to interfere in your life. Better yet, ask the dr. for a different anti-depressant. There are many more that are just as effective, or more effective.
Avatar f tn Even new therapists have told me it is known for having bad side effects. The problem, really, is that its about the ******* money to some of these 'doctors.' They get paid by pharmaceutical companies to push certain medications. Effexor, or Venlafaxine is supposed to be for both anxiety and depression. For me, I'll say it did help with anxiety, but did absolutely nothing for depression, and as I said before it made me sweat like crazy. And withdrawal was awful.

Avatar m tn Dear Andy, so you stopped this med. right? Does anyone know? I haven't looked up this med yet, you had trouble w side effects? Are you on other medication? NAMI has support groups.
Avatar m tn Hello, i wanted some advice on withdrawal from venlafaxine and if you can recommend and way that is useful to minimise the withdrawal symptoms other than the obvious slow reduction in dose. I am currently taking 75mg modified release down from 150mg and i am not experiencing the withdrawal however i fear that when i go down to 37.5mg i will .
Avatar f tn Hi there. Venlafaxine works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain from the fluid in the space around nerve. This is associated with a withdrawal syndrome and since your doctor is trying to wean you off it after 10 long years of therapy. The most common symptoms of effexor withdrawal are dizziness, electric shock like feelings, brain fog, and shock like symptoms in head, shoulders and arms.
Avatar n tn for the first time since i come off Effexor i feel great... i feel no withdrawal symptoms. this is my 10th day without venlafaxine. i'm full of energy. and i feel great cause i'm beginning to win this battle. my dizziness is gone. that first days anxiety has normalized, I really believe now that it's possible to survive effexor withdrawal. usually depression has an environmental cause. try do find yourse and fight it. the human mind is very powerfull.
1910757 tn?1348683319 When I came off Sertraline there were no side effects, but with Venlafaxine the side effects of coming off it are very difficult. Like you I could not tolerate Fluoxetine either. Made me very bad. I can understand the worry about you losing weight. Is there any way you can adjust your diet to help with this? Will your doctor help you with trying to gain some weight?
Avatar f tn l was also put on olanzapine 40 mg venlafaxine 300 mg and quetiapine 125 mg. I had horrible side effects from the quetiapine. They basically put me in a drugged straight jacket and the panic attacks stopped. When I left the hospital I was taking lithium 750 mg olanzapine 40 mg venlafaxine 300 mg and clonazepam PRN. I didn’t know if I was Arthur or Mather due to all the mediation. I applied for a new job and got and was fired after one day.
Avatar f tn I have only had a few headaches after a couple of weeks, and am feeling really well. No side effects from withdrawal at all. It is 8 weeks now since I stopped it altogether. It is possible you just withdrew too fast, and you are experiencing bad withdrawal symptoms. Depression can return after discontinuing an anti depressant. I can understand that you do not want to go back on the drug. Shame you did not decrease slower, taking smaller and smaller amounts, like I did.
Avatar m tn I'd been on 1 x 75mg of Venlafazine/Effexor XR a day for quite a few years. The initial need for taking them, no longer existed, so decided I'd been taking them for far longer than what I should have been, and wanted to have a bash at discontinuing.
Avatar n tn I am 33 yrs old and after having my first child 4 years ago I have been on Venlofaxine anti depressants. however, I am unsure if this symptom belongs to the effects of the drug. I occasionally get a feeling of numbness, my eyesight is slightly blurred and I experience numbness in my fingertips and lips. I have difficulty concentrating during these spells and find it difficult to remember simple words. My speach can be effected and a dizzy like sensation sweeps over me.
Avatar f tn In May this year my anxiety came back. So my gp put me on Serdep 100mg. The side effects are bad and my anxiety not better. I am thinking of going back and change to Venaflaxine. Used it for 4 years and felt much better than with the Sertraline.
Avatar n tn I have read about some rather awful side effects w/venlafaxine....My MD said he's had pretty good results w/other patients w/that drug...But even without knowing your story, I was heistant about trying venlafaxine.....I hate the idea of taking medication....The only thing i take is 5mg.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed paxil and ativan originally. I tried the paxil for one day and did not like the side effects it was giving me. So I went to counseling to try and get over this without taking medications. Well a couple of weekends ago I had a really bad weekend. I went to my doctor because I was having abdominal pains and was thinking it was something serious (which is what my anxiety problem is: health concerns).
Avatar f tn Withdrawal is awful and even the gradual phasing off of it can be intensely difficult. I do know that it has side effects in some individuals which can be problematic (elevated blood pressure, increased sweating, etc.), but I have not personally experienced those symptoms. The blessing of Effexor XR for me, personally, has been immense. Though there are other, newer NSRIs on the market (Cymbalta is one of those), Effexor is the ONLY one that has ever worked for me.
