Is having side effects a good sign the meds trying to work on day 3 and managing to put up with them for now slight head ache but more the dry mouth and horrible taste just wanting people's opinions on this and is it good that I'm experiencing day 3 of switching straight over from another that caused side effects for the 5 weeks I was on them and couldn't take it anymore

I tried Effexor for only three days when it was given to me to treat migraines and I couldn't tolerate the side effects. Don't remember now what all they were- just that it was intolerable for me. It wasn't given to me for POTS- it was before I was diagnosed with POTS I tried it.
I expect, like me, you were on it once, as we have both had depression for many years. I have stopped other anti-depressants cold turkey with no side effects at all.
Why did your GP take you off Venlafaxine?

Even new therapists have told me it is known for having bad side effects. The problem, really, is that its about the ******* money to some of these 'doctors.' They get paid by pharmaceutical companies to push certain medications. Effexor, or Venlafaxine is supposed to be for both anxiety and depression. For me, I'll say it did help with anxiety, but did absolutely nothing for depression, and as I said before it made me sweat like crazy. And withdrawal was awful.
Restlessness, hypertonia, jitteriness, irritability and poor feeding occurred in a neonate after maternal use of venlafaxine for depression during pregnancy. The diagnosis was confirmed by a temporary improvement after administration of a low dose (1 mg) of venlafaxine to the boy. The symptoms ceased after 8 days.

I was on 150mg for 14 years and had tried several times to come off this antidepressant, without success. VENLAFAXINE really helped my depression and anxiety, however it has some nasty side effects and is VERY difficult to get off. Although I've been off the drug for a couple of months, I still feel pretty rough most days. I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine?
Hi Forum in the process of adjusting my meds as just wanting to find some answers as to how efffective people have found venlafaxine (effexor)?? Been suffering from depression for over 18 years and been and done Prozac & Seroxat with dosuliphin thrown in for good mearsure.Presently approaching week 3 now up to 75mg and still feeling terrible as would have been hoping for something by now i feel as presently depressed, socially avoidant, irritable, mentally slow and afraid to talk.
I had to take an MAO inhibitor for depression, and my blood pressure went up due to medication side effects -- or at least, I thought it was due to medication side effects. The blood pressure did not go back down when the medication was discontinued. My psychiatrist told me, at the time, that the people whose blood pressure does not go back down tend to be people who have other predisposing factors for hypertension.
Venlafaxine (effexor) controls depression but does not cure it. It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
First of I just want to say thank you to any one in advance who may leave a response to this post. I've been struggling with bad depression and I keep cycling fro one medication to another, not because the aren't working but, because I seem to really struggle with the physical side effects, The main problems are of course drowsiness, sexual dis-function, and constipation.
I am 33 yrs old and after having my first child 4 years ago I have been on Venlofaxine anti depressants. however, I am unsure if this symptom belongs to the effects of the drug. I occasionally get a feeling of numbness, my eyesight is slightly blurred and I experience numbness in my fingertips and lips. I have difficulty concentrating during these spells and find it difficult to remember simple words. My speach can be effected and a dizzy like sensation sweeps over me.
Let me clairify. Venlafaxine is the exact same active chemical that is in Effexor XR.
The difference is (and this is a huge difference when were talking Venlafaxine) that Effexor XR is an extended release formula. This is where the "XR" terminology comes from. Meaning Extended Release.
The Generic Venlafaxine has no Extended release properties to it such as Effexor XR.
I have only had a few headaches after a couple of weeks, and am feeling really well. No side effects from withdrawal at all. It is 8 weeks now since I stopped it altogether. It is possible you just withdrew too fast, and you are experiencing bad withdrawal symptoms.
Depression can return after discontinuing an anti depressant. I can understand that you do not want to go back on the drug. Shame you did not decrease slower, taking smaller and smaller amounts, like I did.
Venlafaxine is used to treat general anxiety and abilify(aripiprazole) is used to treat depression.
