You can try to adjust your diet and increase your exercise regimen first, that may at least hold your weight steady with no further increases.

Effexor is not generally used when anxiety is the primary problem. That's why you should see a psychiatrist, not a regular doc. Effexor targets not only serotonin but also norepinephrine, which is basically adrenaline. This is meant for people whose primary problem is depression. Now, that doesn't mean it never works for anxiety, but ssris or tricyclics would normally be tried first for this problem, not snris.
Don't settle for Venlafaxine! It's NOT the same as Effexor, and not helpful. My experience is exactly the same as yours. I just have to tell my doctor to include "No Substitution" on the prescription to get the name brand. i really did mean my venlafaxine. when i took her effexors took about 4 days and i felt good for the first time in i dont know when. i woke up during the night hungry. and i did not gett full. my doctor has been pressuring me to gain weight. now since i had to go back on the venlafaxine i am feeling nauseaous and my head is hurting. I am going to call my doctor and talk to his nurse to see what they can do. thank you but i dont think my insurance will approve it.
I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all.
Once before I stopped cold turkey and the brain zaps and other withdrawals lasted 2 weeks.
