This video interview with Dr. Allan Basbaum discusses the possibility of replacing damaged Gabba cells with new functioning ones, thus virtually eliminating neuropathic pain. This video also provides a good explanation of the different types of pain: acute/chronic/inflammatory/ and neuropathic as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Avatar f tn Hi martint1955, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. Avatar m tn Can an STI be asymptomatic for 5 months then present as a frequent need to urinate then subsequent pain in my testicle? There is no urethra discharge, no pain when urinating, just the need to urinate and testicular pain. It doesn't make sense that I had a possible prostate problem and constant need to urinate followed by testicular pain and then a negative UTI test, it only makes me think that an STI is responsible?
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I woke up yesterday morning with numbness all over left side of face and a slight droop. Saw neurologist today who said there was a small palsy there probably brought in by fatigue. He said steriods wouldn't be useful and prescribed me Venlafaxine for the fatigue. Upon reading dosage, instructions etc it looks like it is precribed for anxiety and deepression. Has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason? I am not depressed or anxious but very fatigued...... Sharon.
Avatar f tn -) There are many options out there for pain relief but you must find the cause of the pain or treatment will fail. So if you took Baclofen thinking it's muscle spasms but it's actually neuropathic pain then you will get no relief. Take Care, Karry.
Avatar m tn Many Heppers experience some neuropathic pain.
Avatar f tn Neurontin (gabapentin) can be an effective treatment for neuropathic pain, but would seem unlikely to have any effect on any other symptoms, such as gray patches, sharpness, or color saturation. As has been repeatedly discussed here, however, it's not something one just starts taking; it is an adjustment process. See the Health Page on treating neuropathic pain.
147426 tn?1317265632 We were lucky enough to have a pain managment doc land on our forum last week. He has agreed to feed us some info on data, written for the person with no medical knowledge. He emails me the info and I will place it on the forum. I am so jazzed! PAIN - The Musical There are fundamentally two types of pain in world: "normal pain" and "neuropathic pain". Avatar n tn Hello, I was looking for some treatment options for General Neuropathic Pain as the only diagnosis my dr can provide me after negative EMGs both upper and lower extremeties and complete work up including MRIs, bone scans, x-rays, and blood tests. My pain is debilitating sciatica like in both legs and ulnar nerve pain in both arms from shoulder down to the pinky fingers which feels like tightness in so many muscle groups. Pain for 2 years without answer or any treatment to help.
Avatar m tn It could be neuropathic, though an unlikely possibility. Neuropathic pain can be managed with medications or nerve destruction. 3. Likely possibilities include referred pain from other regions, infections, inflammations, chronic irritation etc. It would be best to get this evaluated by a urologist or an internist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I hope someone can shed light on this. I have been experiencing neuropathic pain for 8 months after taking vitamins and supplements. My initial symptom was twitching in my left calf. This progressed with pins and needles sensation in more of my left leg. A week or so later I had similar symptoms in my right leg as well as significant numbness in my right thigh. Next I experienced parenthesis across my mid back at about th mid-thoracic level.
Avatar m tn One common cause is diabetes. The treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes gabapentin and pregabalin, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). There are other medications, but these are typically the first line. It is important to keep in mind that the treatment of neuropathic pain takes time to get the doses of medications to an optimal dose.
