Within one month I went to my heart doctor begging for Nortriptyline (something I used previously for Fibromyalgia) they prescribed it and it helped 50% but still my anxiety was bad, and other symptoms were present. My psychologist allowed me to go back on Effexor (Venlafaxine HCL) and I was excited. Then slowly I started getting severe anxiety and tension headaches. These last few months I have done countless things thinking this or that would fix it and do the trick.

Currently came off sertraline after five weeks on it it 2 weeks it took the anxiety edge off things then Bang 3 weeks of hell started venlafaxine 37.5mg Tuesday just gone and upped to 75mg Friday anxiety is sky high this weekend and had loads of crying out burst my anxiety is awful in the mornings after taking a zopiclone for sleep I was just wondering if anyone has had anything like benzodiazepines to help with there venlafaxine start up to get you through the first rough couple of weeks?

Unfortunately most of the drugs you're talking about are called different things here in New Zealand, but as to the question of the title, mood stabilisers and anti-depressants can be mixed quite effectively. I'm bipolar II, my shrink has me on 60mg Citalopram (aka Celexa) and some lithium to augment it. It's definitely doing something, although it's not doing enough, but we're still tinkering with the dose a bunch.

I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all. Did you lower your dose slowly? I went from 150mg to 10mg over those 10 months so I would not get any withdrawal symptoms.

Thank you for doing all of this for me. The thought of having to be monitored by EKG kind of freaks me out. (hence the anxiety meds!) I wish you didn't always have to get help for one thing and exchange it for another? What to do...what to do.

My partner has just stopped taking Cymbalta (60 mg after 3 + years) and started taking Pristiq (50 mg). She has been on it for 6 days and she has had diarrhea and vomiting for 3 out of those 6 days. Hi all, I woke up yesterday morning with numbness all over left side of face and a slight droop. Saw neurologist today who said there was a small palsy there probably brought in by fatigue. He said steriods wouldn't be useful and prescribed me Venlafaxine for the fatigue. Upon reading dosage, instructions etc it looks like it is precribed for anxiety and deepression. Has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason? I am not depressed or anxious but very fatigued...... Sharon.

I have uncomfortable sensations in the left of my face a pulling, tugging, discomfort, sometimes off numbness which comes and goes, left arm and hand where ulnar nerve is in wrist, left of back and shoulder, sometimes down left leg. I started taking venlafaxine for the pain and it does help. I recently had a painless medical test for which I had to avoid meds for a while (then I forgot to take them later).

I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine. How do I reduce from 37.5mg Venlafaxine? My doctor does not know the answer to this. She said it will have to be trial and error. Any comments that will help please?

I've been on venlafaxine for over a year now and have had diarrhea for about 9 days. I noticed the tiny white balls this morning and was certain I had a parasite. Thankfully I came across this post. Side note; I too drink a lot of sports drinks. Peculiar. I think I'll just have some dry toast and imodium and hope for the best.

s response to treatment. A med that works for one person may not work for another. It is a trial and error process unfortunately. There is no "magic bullet" when it comes to anti-depressants. Cheers!

i am on 450 mgs venlafaxine, 150mg quatipine at night and have prn 3x .25 quatipine during the day. venlafaxine isn't working anymore. I have been given 2 options.. option 1. taper very slowly over a very long period of time and take other meds to stablize me, option 2. go back to the psych ward and under supervision come off venlafaxine which then is going to be replaced by another anti dep.

unfortunately antidepressants can take a couple weeks to kick in. For me they started working quickly on some of my worst symptoms and other symptoms improved in time. Try to be patient and be positive that they will help you with each passing day. Try to keep yourself and your mind occupied and going about your normal daily activities and a little at a time you will find yourself getting back to normal. Take care.

This is the first time I have posted a comment/question on here but I often come here to read posts. I was recently put on 150mg of Venlafaxine once daily in combination with 1mg Lorazepam as needed. I am responding quickly to the Venlafaxine ER and have only had a few bumps throughout the day that required half of the 1mg Lorazepam. My problem is sleeping? I'm so worried about the addictive qualities of Lorazepam that I am hesitant to take it to help me sleep.

I took venlafaxine (Effexor) for about 2 years. I didn't gain or lose weight. It really depends on how the patient reacts to the drug. If it increases your anxiety level you might take it on food, without even noticing it. Personally, venlafaxine made me extremely irritable, aggressive and tired, but it didn't affect my appetite or metabolism. So there's no final word on it will make you gain or lose weight.
