Avatar f tn Effexor is not generally used when anxiety is the primary problem. That's why you should see a psychiatrist, not a regular doc. Effexor targets not only serotonin but also norepinephrine, which is basically adrenaline. This is meant for people whose primary problem is depression. Now, that doesn't mean it never works for anxiety, but ssris or tricyclics would normally be tried first for this problem, not snris.
Avatar f tn My dr. just prescribed me Zofran for my nausea. Is anyone here taking Zofran while also taking Effexor for anxiety? Since they both deal with seratonin, my dr. wants me to have EKG's to monitor any interaction. Help!
Avatar f tn Venlafaxine (Efexor) is used to treat anxiety - I have been on this medicine for 8 years and it works for me. Do remember though that it can take up to 4 weeks before you notice a positive change when starting up on Venlafaxine..
Avatar f tn i so hoping by Friday I feel some relief iv had my last 100mg of sertraline today as it's been hell for me on it I just hope the 37.

Avatar f tn Hi all, I woke up yesterday morning with numbness all over left side of face and a slight droop. Saw neurologist today who said there was a small palsy there probably brought in by fatigue. He said steriods wouldn't be useful and prescribed me Venlafaxine for the fatigue. Upon reading dosage, instructions etc it looks like it is precribed for anxiety and deepression. Has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason? I am not depressed or anxious but very fatigued...... Sharon.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I am on Viapax XL and was on Effexor XL before. Anxiety so bad had to call doctor out today. Now on more pills for anxiety. I wish I wasn't going through all these. I can't cope. I can't help freaking out, I am ill!! I am too bad to go to doctors. Some of you understand that, and others don't. I am a weak person whodunnit, not strong like you. You make things sound too easy. Please try and understand.

Avatar f tn I wouldn't recomend Effexor for someone that is suffering only Anxiety dissorder without moderate to severe depression, but Effexor while primarily for depression also helps a lot for people that have generalized anxiety with depression. I took Effexor for 4 years before it stopped working for me, but during those for years it did a very good job of controling my Depression as well as my Anxiety and panic attacks. So for me it worked when other meds like Zoloft stopped working.
233002 tn?1316027966 s response to treatment. A med that works for one person may not work for another. It is a trial and error process unfortunately. There is no "magic bullet" when it comes to anti-depressants. Cheers!
Avatar n tn hia i am on venlafaxine, i been on it for a while, it normaly helps me, but 4 the last fewweeks i been feeling really good, but now i feel ill all the time and suicidal , and also my nan has got bipolar, i was wondering if it runs in the family?

Avatar n tn s nowhere near as good as Paxil was in taking the edge off the occasional twinge of anxiety. Another drug she takes for anxiety is alprazolam. This is taken as required. I occasionally take a dose, and it mellows you out good. Paxil combined with Xanax, two good drugs for anxiety.
Avatar n tn I took venlafaxine (Effexor) for about 2 years. I didn't gain or lose weight. It really depends on how the patient reacts to the drug. If it increases your anxiety level you might take it on food, without even noticing it. Personally, venlafaxine made me extremely irritable, aggressive and tired, but it didn't affect my appetite or metabolism. So there's no final word on it will make you gain or lose weight.
Avatar f tn You can read many posts here and find out what other folks have to say about each of these meds, but bear in mind that what works for one person, may be totally wrong for you. And some of us have to try several different ones before we hit on the one that works for us and has the least amount of side effects. It certainly wouldn't hurt for you to have some "real" education about different meds when you're talking to your doctor.
1056851 tn?1318720978 Hi Mustang, I was on a course of this 7 years ago for depression and anxiety-related issues (I have had OCD since I can remember and it gets more intense if I become depressed). It was very effective after some time but I remember that the side-effect for me of nausea and vertigo a short while after taking the tablet was horrific as it lasted up to an hour at a time. However, the positive was that it kept improving and it went all together after 3 weeks or so.
Avatar f tn Even new therapists have told me it is known for having bad side effects. The problem, really, is that its about the ******* money to some of these 'doctors.' They get paid by pharmaceutical companies to push certain medications. Effexor, or Venlafaxine is supposed to be for both anxiety and depression. For me, I'll say it did help with anxiety, but did absolutely nothing for depression, and as I said before it made me sweat like crazy. And withdrawal was awful.
Avatar f tn I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!
Avatar f tn I have been taking this combination for several years now with good results except for occasional bouts of short term bouts (2 or 3 days) of depression and occasional panic attacks.
Avatar n tn Hi! I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. However, changes can only be seen during 3rd week, according to my doctor. To be honest i'm not feeling very well. I'm having diarrhea everyday, and lots of gas too. I don't know what is causing it, but i think that it has nothing to to with the drugs. A week before starting on effexor i started to have diarrhea, since i was told to eat Sauerkraut (fermented vegetals). During xmas diarrhea was almost gone, now it's back.
Avatar f tn I was on Efexor for over 8 years. You don't act spacey or lost on it. It is more the valium based anti-depressants that will cause that kind of behaviour. Especially if the person is taking more than they should. If you are worried about taking it, don't be. if you know someone on it and they are acting that way, you need to have a serious discussion with them.
1709162 tn?1314084832 The jitteryness and increased anxiety went away. You need to give the medication a good 4 to 6 weeks to really see if it is working for you. You should see an improvement as you go along those 4 to 6 weeks.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar f tn Hi I was weaned off 150mg of venlafaxine down to 75mg then 37.5mg and whilst on 37.mg for 2 weeks put on flouextine (prozac) 40mg and I have been great for 10month the only thing iv put a little weight on but putting that little weight on to how I was feeling then is amazing I'm now just wondering if I could drop down to 20mg to see if that helps with the weight but I'm feeling 100% now for the change in Meds.
Avatar m tn Please help. I have stopped taking 300mg of venlafaxine for 15 days today and I cannot take the pain or side effects.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all. Once before I stopped cold turkey and the brain zaps and other withdrawals lasted 2 weeks. If you look up 'How Long Does Effexor Withdrawal Last', you will find over 930 replies to that question. Did you lower your dose slowly? I went from 150mg to 10mg over those 10 months so I would not get any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn A study released in May 2010 by the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests use of venlafaxine doubles the risk of miscarriage. Consequently, venlafaxine should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Prospective studies have not shown any statistically significant congenital malformations. There have, however, been some reports of self-limiting effects on newborn infants.
