Also your UK max doses are not actually the max doses and I would have been inclined to push the doses higher rather than add escitalopram because both venlafaxine and mirtazapine have more potency and more noradrenergic effects at higher doses than you are taking. I have used venlafaxine to 600 mg and mirtazapine to 90 mg and have seen additional benefits in refractory depression when I push the doses. Also I think you should be seeing a therapist with training in treating chronic depression..
I stopped taking Venlafaxine almost 1 year ago. My Pharmacist helped me with the "weaning" process, so things were okay for a while. Now here I am, a year later, and I actually feel WORSE than I did back then. The clinic I go to has rotating doctors (I do not have insurance regardless of "the affordable care act"), so it is difficult to relate to a physician every 3-4 months.
really wondering what my options are now as been on effexor / venlafaxine now for 8 1/2 weeks up to 225mg and continue to feel depressed, avoidant and socially quiet which is not the person i am. Contniue to take mirtzapine 45mg and 5-HTP but considering dumping these or / and further augementation stragegies. Anybody have any good experiences with Lithium ornate as an additional supplement or with Lithium carbonate itself for treatment resistent depression??

I am on that combination and it works great. I was taking Lexapro 20 mg with Wellbutrin and was fine. How long have you been on Lexapro? My doc started me out slow with a week of 5 mg then 10 mg and so on. I know jumping into 20 mg for me was exhausting. Best of luck.
ve been on Effexor XR (300 mg) for about fifteen years and recently decided with my psychiatrist that I would go off it and start Wellbutrin XL. I got on the Wellbutrin (150 mg) and started tapering off the Effexor, and I was surprised at how smoothly it was going. Then I went from 75 mg of the Effexor to nothing, and within two days I felt like I was going to die. I felt nauseous, drunk and hung over at the same time, shaky, dizzy, etc.
Been on Effexor XR for maybe 4yrs and recently rec. venlafaxine instead via mailorder.
I assumed Effexor XR must have just gone generic. I have been on venlafaxine for about 3 weeks and just do not feel "right". Very tired- especially around 2-3 pm and started gaining weight again. Originally gained 30lbs until added Wellbutrin 300mg to the Effexor. Also my mind is not as sharp, having more headaches, bloated stomach and crabby.
This is entirely dependent on your individual reaction. For me, neither was much of a factor with any of these things, and most ssris other than possibly Prozac tend to be sedating when they work well, but still, some will get these problems and some won't. These two meds are very similar. Celexa came first, and when the patent ran out, they played with the structure, took some things out, and made Lexapro. Reportedly it has fewer side effects, but who knows if that's really true?
I was on mirtazapine 15mg, rexulti 1mg, and venlafaxine 37.5mg for a about 7 months. I was barely getting through even on all of those medications so my psychiatrist raised rexulti to 2 mg for about a month and I didn't like the way it made me feel. My psych then lowered rexulti back to 1mg and then took me off it completely. She switched me to wellbutrin 100mg which increased suicidal thoughts for me. I felt absolutely terrible. I was on it as well as the others for about two weeks.
Can anyone help??? I have been on venlafaxine for 4 years and after my recent visit to the doctor she advised me to cut down for three weeks on the venlafaxine and then start on mirtazapine 15mg. In my infinite wisdom I thought I would cut down the venlafaxine in my own way and not bother with the mirtazapine. I thought what is the point of cutting out one med to go on another as I'm keen to be med free. This is now third day without any medication I feel ill.

I had the same problems with both Effexor and Venlafaxine so my psychiatrist added Wellbutrin extended release and this eased the symptoms significantly as I was also feeling depressed and suicidal. This made me feel better for a while and then these meds seemed to stop working - I am in still in the process of "mixing and matching" medications. But I found no significant difference between the Effexor and Venlafaxine.

So I have been taking venlafaxine (effexor) 150mg for 3 years now and bupropion (wellbutrin) 150mg for 3 months now and I recently had to go to surgery.I had an ovarian cyst that needed to be drained and my appendix taken out in the same operation. Anyways the doctors prescribed me with hydrocodone (vicodin) 5-325TB , ibuprofen 600mg and Doc-q-lace 100mg and I've taking the hydrocodone, ibuprofen,and doc-q-lace only about four times or less since my surgery on Monday (today is Sunday haha).
In addition, my thoughts are slightly jumbled and not clear. Is this normal? How long does it take for the Wellbutrin to kick in?
Im considering getting off meds altogether since I prefer not to take medication and Im on such a low dose. What are alternative methods for combating depression/SAD other than meds?

d recommend an SNRI, and my favorite is the tried-and-true oldie, effexor (venlafaxine). Start low and give it time. Good luck.
t had any obvious side effects so I have stayed on it in hopes that I will find an addition drug/supplement that may work with the venlafaxine to reduce my fatigue and other POTS symptoms.
I want to warn you, though, that getting on venlafaxine is not too hard, but getting off of it is very difficult. I was on it years ago for depression and the withdrawal symptoms took me about a month to get through.

Can you take Melatonin and Nyquil with Venlafaxine ER and Lorazepam, or would that be a big mistake? I need sleep desparately!!!!
Hi everyone. I'm coming up on 3 months being off of methadone and have been prescribed wellbutrin for depression and anxiety. I've taken 150 mg a day for two weeks and now I'm supposed to start taking 300 mgs a day. When I take even the 150 mg it seems to make me feel like I've done some trashy speed or something. I got it through a kind of community mental health center and it's almost impossible to get to talk to the Dr.
I stopped taking Venlafaxine and Mirtazipine on Tuesday, almost a week ago. Because these drugs are not helping me and actually enhancing my ADD issues and i am trying to go through law school. I have suffered from the withdrawal effects of rapid bodily temperature change, adrenaline rushes affecting mood, sobbing at the end of the day, nausea, shaking, body aches, rapid mood changes, random anger outbursts, and random itching everywhere as if my whole body was on fire.
I have taken wellbutrin XL 150 for about four years, but recently it stopped helping. My doctor added effexor XR 75 and trazodone 50mg to try to settle my horrible anxiety and pick me up from the dark depression I started experiencing about 2 months ago. When a peripheral nerve is injured there is an increase in pain sensitive fibers leading to increase pain recognition. This causes a change in central (i.e., brain/spinal cord) recognition of pain. One major neurotransmitter involved in this is norepinephrine. Cymbalta works to modulate this change.
A common approach to this problem would be to add more norepinephrine activity either by switching to a medicine like Cymbalta (duloxetine) or Effexor (venlafaxine) or by adding a small dose of Wellbutrin (bupropion) to the Prozac. Increased norepinephrine activity should enhance motivation and focus.
An alternative approach might be to try reducing slightly the dose of the Prozac... the apathy inducing effect of Prozac and other medications like it definitely seems to be dose related...
