Desvenlafaxine ( Pristiq ) is a novel form of the isolated major active metabolite of venlafaxine, and is categorized as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It works by blocking the transporter "reuptake" proteins for key neurotransmitters affecting mood, thereby leaving more active neurotransmitters in the synapse. The neurotransmitters affected are serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
For my depression I took fluvoxamine 50mg, mianserin 60mg and clonazepam 2mg before sleep for 10 years, after failing single drug therapy. I found Prozac, Citalopram, Sertaline, Paroxetine, Venlafaxine, Mirtazapine, and Monclobemide could not replace Fluvoxamine. It indicates that different SSRIs has different effect on a particular individual. I deny failing prozac and Celexa means the rest of the SSRIs is contraindicated.
Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
The patient recovered in 2 hours after receiving prochlorperazine and lorazepam in the emergency department. Venlafaxine was discontinued, and she was discharged home. Two weeks later, the patient started to receive fluoxetine 20 mg/d and reported no adverse adverse effects during follow-up clinic visits. DISCUSSION: The clinical manifestations of this case meet Sternbach's criteria of serotonin syndrome.

Reference to Table 1, Chapter I, which shows the equivalent strengths of different benzodiazepines, should enable you to work out your own programme and to devise an appropriate schedule for benzodiazepines such as prazepam (Centrax) and quazepam (Doral) and others which are not illustrated. In my experience, the only exception to the general rule of slow reduction is triazolam (Halcion).
I wanted to try pyridostigmine this time, but he did not want me to try it since he does not have much experience with it, and did not want to refer me to a MD that is familiar using it, that could follow me. So I'm off Venlafaxine and Desmopressin, leaving me only with the Midodrine - And now he added some low dose Bisoprolol even if a while back he did not want me to be on BBs because of my low BP; go figure!? For my gov.
I continued the Venlafaxine for another two days, but my brain felt very odd and I felt nauseous so I stopped taking it on a Tuesday, just to see if the Venlafaxine was the culprit. Wednesday night, I started to lose my vision in and out, sweating, heart palpitations, brain zaps, and the worst hot flashes I've ever felt. I also had an extreme sense of doom and need to escape. I went to the ER, who told me I was having adverse effects from my Venlafaxine.
I was taking NOVO-VENLAFAXINE XR and Clonazepam. 5 days after I started treatment, I think i made the mistake of listening to others and stopped the medication. Started researching(google) everything I was taking and got so angry about the side effects and needing it for years, etc...I just stopped taking the NOVO and thought I was surely dying in the the next few weeks. I got jolts, and all these feelings running down my back, to the point I would have to clinch my buttcheeks to bear it.
she cannot walk or stand, due to the catatonia and footdrop (a complcation of the nms) she rarely talks, is doubley incontinent and unable to manage her personal hygiene, in short the only thing she does for herself is breathe. she was initially prescribed olanzapine, fluoxatine and lorazepam. then quetiapine and lorazepam. she is currently taking clozapine and venlafaxine. she has also had 33 ect sessions which were stopped several months ago.
) , pregabalin, beta blockers, venlafaxine (took away all emotions), lamotragine, and am currently on fluvoxamine maleate (200mg a day), and prn lorazepam and diazepam. Magic mushrooms help loads and take it all away through the 'trip' and for couple days afterwards, but as far as I'm aware, psychlobin isn't licenced?? Do u have any info/thoughts on glutamate-modulating drugs (eg riluzole)?
I honestly prefer a more natural approach, and I can tolerate Gaba and Theanine but they just aren't as effective for me as the Rx meds. Any suggestions? I completely understand the issue of dependance and how it differs from addiction. 2 doctors, a PA, and my Therapist all have no problems with me taking the Ativan. If I have to be on a low-ish dose of this forever that's ok.
The antidepressants clomipramine (Anafranil) and venlafaxine (Effexor) also help obsessions. The FDA approved Prozac, Luvox and Anafranil as medications beneficial for OCD. The anti-obsessional benefits of any of these medications may not be fully apparent until 5 to 10 weeks after treatment starts. Imipramine, and alprazolam and the mild tranquilizer buspirone (BuSpar) also show some indications of being useful for certain individuals.
I'm pretty sure he was talking about bipolar, for which "BP" is an abbreviation. Depakote and lithium are both commonly used for bipolar, and given which forum this is on, I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about blood pressure.
My doctor says that depression is one of the major symptoms of chronic pain and says he wants to take care of it before it happens. He recently added Effexor XR (Venlafaxine 37.5 mg) to the long list of medications I am currently on. I am a bit concerned about taking both the celexa and effexor together. Much of the information I have located about these two medications being taken together has not been encouraging.
Milk Thistle for Hepatitis C Many patients use alternative and complementary therapies to manage hepatitis C and resulting liver fibrosis, but most such agents have not been studied in Western clinical trials. Again in the May 2007 issue of Gastroenterology, S.J. Polyak and colleagues reported data from a laboratory study of the anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties of a standardized milk thistle (Silybum marianum) silymarin extract known as MK-001.
I had a seizure about ten years ago after taking Codeine, though they aren't sure it is related to Codeine or due to extremely severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. I shake and panic at the thought of taking anything, and I want to know how safe Venlafaxine is compared to other anti-depressants and if I should be worried about having a seizure. Also, I've had adverse reactions to the beta-blocker Atenolol and I can't tolerate psuedoephedrine. Any thoughts or recommendations?
My doc has had me on bupropion for depression and lorazepam for anxiety for many years. Recently he has tried to switch me from lorazepam to clonipin due to the memory loss association with lorazepam. Is there any benefit with memory retention using clonopin over lorazepam? Trying to make the switch is nearly impossible do to the long term use (addiction) of lorazepam. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Confused.
I found this article and thought you might find it interesting................ Peace Greenlydia By John M. Grohol, Psy.D. These are the top 25 psychiatric medications by number of U.S. prescriptions dispensed in 2009, according to IMS Health. I’ve also provided their 2005 ranking. To put the percent change into perspective, the U.S. total population rose approximately 4 percent from 2005 to 2009. 2009 Rank 2005 Rank Brand name (generic name) Used for… U.S. Prescriptions (% change) 1. 1.
I have been prescribed Effexor 37.5mg for my anxiety and depression issues. I have pretty bad social anxiety which really limits my daily life...leading to my depression. I have never been on any real medicine like this and I am very nervous about starting it. I am afraid of the side effects mainly. I have also opted to go for the generic brand because I currently do not have insurance coverage. I have "Teva-Venlafaxine XR 37.5mg" tablets and I plan on starting them in a few days.
Made me feel confused and disoriented. I wasn't sure what was real and what was a dream. I have used 1 mg of lorazepam before bed and find that much more helpful. I have also found music and progressive muscle relaxation helpful before going to bed. Reduces muscle tension, helps me to relax, etc. Are you into swimming? That could help ease some of the soreness (although create more in the beginning if it's something you're not used too).
This was unfortunate since I have baby fine hair to begin with. Around week 30 it stopped falling out. Now and then I lose one or two hairs. Believe me, I'm very happy that it stopped falling out, however,I am sooooo curious if anyone else has experienced this. I'm a lb, female 49, undetected <50 at 7 weeks, 24 weeks. My next pcr is end of March which is my 9th month. I was on Procrit for about 2 months and then taken off when my blood levels normalized.
One person can take 10mg of Valium and feel alert, awake, aware and unaffected, another person can take 1mg of Valium and be so drowsy they cannot function or stay awake. It's more common with alcohol; we all probably know someone who can knock back 5 drinks and still look and act sober, whereas some of us drink one beer and we can't even walk a straight line. Working in the mental health field, I have seen Effexor XR prescribed and have amazing and wonderful effects.
I'm on a generic form of Wellbutrin, thanks to my neuro who decided I was depressed. I didn't argue with him and said I would try it for a while. It is now almost a year later and I'm still taking it. I don't know if it really makes a difference for me - I didn't thnk I was depressed to start with. But I will agree that I don't register a very wide range of emotions - except when I get ticked off.
I snort and have been doing it on and off for 4 years. The longest I've stayed clean is 8 mos and then 6 mos. Now I've been using for the past 8 mos. and cannot seem to stop for more than 2 days! It gets harder and harder. This disease is progressive for sure. What can I do? I really feel like it will NEVER end. Help!
