I am 73 years old and have been on anti depressants for 20+ years, and Venlafaxine twice. Once for 5 years, but I was silly and stopped it cold turkey. I was fine after 2 weeks, but depression came back after 1 year. So I went back on it again for 4 years, and as I say, have just withdrawn from it. This time, because I did it really, really slowly, I have been fine. I think your problem is you withdrew too fast.
for the first time since i come off Effexor i feel great... i feel no withdrawal symptoms. this is my 10th day without venlafaxine. i'm full of energy. and i feel great cause i'm beginning to win this battle. my dizziness is gone. that first days anxiety has normalized, I really believe now that it's possible to survive effexor withdrawal. usually depression has an environmental cause. try do find yourse and fight it. the human mind is very powerfull.
Venlafaxine is usually given for anxiety and panic disorders, social phobias and for depression. Venlafaxine actually increases ocular pressure. In your case it may have been prescribed to combat the neurpathic pain. However, if you are on Venlafaxine, then ocular pressure needs to be constantly monitored. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
I am starting to get really bad headaches that are like migranes and whenever i move my eyes i get an odd sensation throughout my body. I was wondering if there was anything i can do to stop this and if not how long will it last ?
I get headaches on and off all day. I feel tired all the time. I can't really explain how I feel .. it's just a really weird feeling. Is this because of coming off of Ven, or what? Because people who've been on it for years, then come off usually get these side effects (read their stories). But I've only been on it for a few months.... Maybe it effects everyone different.
I can't remember the last time I've gone a whole day without having a panic attack. My doctor recently put me on 75mg Venlafaxine and I now wake up in the middle of the night (I tak my meds in the morning) in a panic. I'd like to know if this is normal? And if Venlafaxine really helps with anxiety? I've been on other antidepressant that claim to help with anxiety as well and they just made me feel numb.
When I tried to talk to her about why I don't want to take Venlafaxine, she got pissed and told me I was overreacting and that she had never had any withdrawal symptoms on Venlafaxine. So, apparently my choices are taking Venlafaxine or just weaning off this is stuff, which I'm really considering, since following my treatment with Sertraline seems out of question...
it takes me a half an hour to completely open my eyes and move my arms and legs they feel like weights. All day long I feel like a zombie. My blood pressure is 114/75 sitting but drops to 89/71 when I stand. I am dizzy when standing, feel nauseous and zone in and out. when I zone out its almost like im unconscious yet I know whats going on around me but I cant move and its hard to respond or move my body. Any ideas what this could be?
I thought the main reason that Effexor withdrawal is difficult in the first place is because the half-life is so short, so why would giving me something with an even shorter half-life help? So far, I seem to be OK, I'm just having headaches, and I get nauseous after I take the pill, so I'll try taking it with crackers tomorrow. But, I don't know, something about this method still feels wrong... Has anyone else used generic Venlafaxine to get off Effexor XR?
My psychologist allowed me to go back on Effexor (Venlafaxine HCL) and I was excited. Then slowly I started getting severe anxiety and tension headaches. These last few months I have done countless things thinking this or that would fix it and do the trick. I've increased medicines, decreased medicines, yoyoed medicines, swapped medicines, seen several doctors, and made multiple trips to the hospital.
Been on Effexor XR for maybe 4yrs and recently rec. venlafaxine instead via mailorder. I assumed Effexor XR must have just gone generic. I have been on venlafaxine for about 3 weeks and just do not feel "right". Very tired- especially around 2-3 pm and started gaining weight again. Originally gained 30lbs until added Wellbutrin 300mg to the Effexor. Also my mind is not as sharp, having more headaches, bloated stomach and crabby.
Vitamin D 50000 IU once a week Meclizine 25 mg 1 tablet 3 times a day (for dizziness) Etodolac 500 mg ER once daily (for inflammation) Tramadol 50 mg 1 tablet 4 times a day (for pain( suppose to take tylenol with this on a 1 for 1 basis)) Topiramate 100 mg and 50 mg 1 ea at bedtime (to help with the headaches) Venlafaxine 75 mg 2 tablets in the am and 1 at bedtime ( anxiety) Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray 50 mcg 2 sprays in ea. nasal in the am Amerge 2.
I have recently been put on medication to lower my blood pressure as it is getting increasingly higher, i dont know if its due to stress or the headaches I cant understand it at all, these headaches are ruining my life and i am at my wits end, my doctor is at a loss of what to do and im becoming so depressed that i don't want to live like this anymore and want to get real help. Please if any of you know what it may be or have had similar please share with me.
Has anyone experienced any long term effects since stopping the Effexor (Venlafaxine)? I had to go off this cold turkey last December (2010) because the doctor thought I was having an allergic reaction, after having a lump feeling when I swallowed. As of today (10/19/11) I am still having the same feeling. Been to a few ENT's & Gastro doc who all think it is acid related. This feeling in my throat started while I was on the Venlafaxine.
venlafaxine together for depression, I am also taking Relpax and verapamil for headaches. I also have a Mild Traumatic Brain injury. I now feel like a zombie, I am sleeping 12 to 14 hours a day and when I wake up I can't get my body to move. it takes me a half an hour to completely open my eyes and move my arms and legs they feel like weights. All day long I feel like a zombie. My blood pressure is 114/75 sitting but drops to 89/71 when I stand.
But seriousely, I am including the following direct coat from the Physician Prescribing Information regarding sudden discontinuation of venlafaxine. The symptoms depend on how much of this medication you have been taking and for how long. They include sweating, anorexia (explaining weight loss), hypomania (mild case of which could express itself in increased talking) and sensory disturbances (could explain 'some weird hearing things').
After several months of the generic Venlafaxine, I started back on the name brand Effexor XR. In the morning all the anxiety I've been feeling for weeks just melted away. The muscle tension in my neck, shoulders, and chest went away. We'll see if my BP goes back down. This afternoon I feel a little more anxious than this morning, but it is not terrible.
you could ask about that because i've been on it and so far it's been the best one for my headaches, but beware, even half of the pill (2mg) knocks you out (makes you tired).
3 YEARS ON VENLAFAXIN 225 MG, WEANED OFF FINAL PILL 9 DAYS AGO. HEADACHES IRRITABILITY AND MUSCLE PAIN TERRIBLE..HOW LONG WILL these withdrawal symptoms LAST?
Take Cuprofen 400mg tablets for headaches, no problem as quickly hit the spot. Not heard as to whether one should be cautious about painkillers as take mirtzapine & venlafaxine (aka califionia rocket fuel) myself.
I have been taking Venlafaxine for a month and since starting my pupils have been dilated and I have blurred vision. My pupils do not react to changes in light. I also have accompanying headaches. I am wondering if there are any long term effects on my eyes associated with dilated pupils over an extended period of time?
How long do these post meningitis headaches usually last?
I was then put of Zoloft plus Topomax. All of these meds were for my migrains and chronic daily headaches. Topomax definitely makes you loose weight. I recently switched to Effexor 75 and still remained on the Topomax, had no weight gain, but as soon as I went off the Topomax (I realized it was hindering my headaches, not helping any longer) I have gained 5-7 pounds. This is making me very depressed, my doctor just upped my Effexor to 150mg and told me to exercise.
Has anyone else had good relief of symptoms from an antidepressant called venlafaxine? I've had excellent results. It took about a month and my headaches did some weird changing from what they were to something else until now they are VERY manageable. It has also helped with my drunken gait, I'm able to walk straight again and not fear that I'm going to fall down the stairs without holding on securing or bracing my shoulder against the wall.
It has made a difference and i do feel I'm getting better, however, I have started to get headaches and feel unwell and down again. Is this part of the healing process or is it me needing to be unwell to be myself. I'm worried that i've spent so many years feeling unwell that i don't know how to be well. Can you help?
I have been on venlafaxine 150 4 weeks this coming Monday. I have been running fever and sick at my stomach. had a lot of constipation that is bad makes me have real hard cramps. I called the nurse my fever was high I was freezing turned on my electric blanket. I told her about all this and that my stomach brning was much worse she said mybe I should get off the 150 and go back to the 75mg. but the doctor was not in he was gone all week.
Prior to this time, I had always been lucky enough to have very good mental and physical health. I've always been a bit sceptical of this diagnosis, as I'd never actually been that fatigued, but have had many neurological / cognitive complaints over this time, including persistent headaches, short term memory loss, problems with natural thought process / brain fog, etc, etc.
Dear Marni, Just to reiterate, Venlafaxine (Effexor) is known to have possible adverse reactions stemming from its abrupt discontinuation or missed dose such as dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, nausea, and headaches, among other symptoms. It is not common, but can occur in some individuals. I hope you maintain your current medication compliance to avoid such symptoms.
Moderate side effects reported in the trial include constipation, GI upset and headaches. Pharmavite LLC funded the trial and provided the active ingredient. The promising results of this preliminary study provide the basis for a larger, controlled follow-up study that is being funded by the National Institutes of Health.
This pain would intensify which would cause me to wince in pain and then release and then repeat all over again every 5-10 seconds for about a minute. This pain did not radiate anywhere but only within a specific point. Then this same stabbing sensation occurred half way up to the first knuckle of my right middle finger about 30 minutes later. Then immediately following this finger pain I felt pain in my right foot at the joint of my middle toe.
