20867265 tn?1552026340 The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar n tn Doctors try to avoid vyvanse and adderall ect with bipolar because it causes mania. Adderal is not used for bipolar. For bipolar i take abilify (aripiprizole) 10mg and 1000mg of divalproex sodium.
Avatar f tn I think I need to add, just so that Judy does not assume that her friend has schizophrenia, which it is primarily used for or bipolar disorder, and not so frequently with treating depression, that antipsychotic meds like Abilify, get added on if there are other symptoms going on like irritability, hostility, anger, or whatever, because of their "calming effect.
540093 tn?1279821834 I started taking 75mg of venlafaxine yesterday around 12pm and I noticed my pupils were instantly dilated and I have endless energy. Honestly I feel GREAT and am ready to take on the world... but not sleep. It's 6:17am and I haven't had a wink of sleep yet. Will this problem get better in time?
1441157 tn?1284075251 I have bipolar 2 disorder. I have done fine on Lamictal at 200mg for years. after a while we had to add Klonpin for anxiety and up it. I am now on 3 mg. I went through a long depression and decided to take Cymbalta, After about 2 months I had no sexual fuction (female), headaches, constipation, excessive sweating. I weaned off. Felt great for a few weeks now I am depressed again. I get triggers. What can I take for depression with low side effects? Like no weight gain and sexual disfuction.
Avatar f tn Effexor (venlafaxine) is used to treat depression. Venlafaxine extended-release (long-acting) capsules are also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD; excessive worrying that is difficult to control), social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life), and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks).
Avatar f tn I read that Its 50/50. Depends though, I know ppl that are bipolar and have three kids, one has mood disorder. I'm bipolar, so is my husband and were having a baby in Nov. So I'm curious to see how this will work out. Either way what better people to help a child or someone deal with it then someone who actually has it themselves.
Avatar f tn narcissistic, borderline, antisocial, avoidance disorder and obsessive-compulsive. In my case the obsessive-compulsive personality disorder(OCPD) and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) have been the most dominant and especially after the age of 60. The presence of these disorders sometimes make BPD symptoms more intense and more difficult to treat and they appear to increase the risk of suicide, but not in my case. I will deal with suicidal ideation later in this statement.
Avatar f tn We weaned him off of it and took a 2 week hiatus from antidepressants and just gave him his focalin. We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive.
Avatar m tn I feel like I'm having a mind seizure sometimes. We still have very little knowledge of the mind and brain, though we are learning more and more. We don't really know why bipolar meds work, there are theories, but no hard science. I find addiction and bipolar to be more similar than seizures and bipolar.
Avatar f tn Hypomania (in the case of co-occurring borderline personality disorder and bipolar II disorder) may precede the emergence of borderline personality disorder in some patients, may surface a number of years later than when borderline personality disorder is first recognized, and in still others may become manifest at about the same time one is first diagnosed with borderline personality disorder." Avatar n tn gov/pubmed/24135842 Otherwise, there is nothing in the scientific literature to indicate a connection between bipolar mood disorder and restless leg. Are there any other questions I can help you with? Best wishes, H.

728480 tn?1312059930 Ive been taking Venlafaxine 225mg for 3 and a half months it isnt eleviating low mood at all. Instead it is making me angry and slightly erraqtic finding it hard to settle or sleep. I told my doctor all he said was keep taking it. The anger inside me bursts out without thinking like never before and im straining relationships. I feel my depression isnt this chemical business in the brain. Im in therapy which is good.

1353681 tn?1387083733 I do not know much about this disorder, and a friend of mine informed me they are bipolar. I have heard traits such as aggression, mania, and being deceptive? I wanted a little advice or experiences from anyone who has been in a relationship with someone who is bipolar- what to expect or think about. Thank you for any insight.
1554889 tn?1323658494 A good doctor should welcome an open discussion of potential benefits of each drug, side effects, timelines, and alternatives if the desired outcome is not achieved. People with bipolar disorder can still have very full lives, careers, relationships and families, just like anyone else. It may be a bit of a struggle sometimes, but every person has their own issues to deal with -- and not just people with bipolar!
571966 tn?1217110203 I have not been officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, I have been reading a lot about it and listening to this "HealthTalk" podcast about bipolar disorder. I have been diagnosed with ADD. My doctor (who I only meet with for five to ten minutes) has prescribed me to three different anti-depressants, overall. The first medication was Lexipro, which did not help with my depression. So then he put me on Effexor XR.
Avatar m tn Bipolar I requires a full manic or mixed episode. Bipolar II requires at least one full depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, with no full manic or mixed episodes.
Avatar n tn I am married 6 years and have bipolar 2. I have had a few episodes during that time. I was diagnosed 2 years into our marriage. The last episode was a biggy and lasted six months and I am still climbing out of it. It has brought us closer together because I know he meant the 'for better or worse' part of his marriage vows. I am now on meds that are really helping. It isn't unusual for it to take years to get the right medication mix.
Avatar f tn i had years ov stopping and starting meds because they didnt help.i got refered and they said I had signs ov bipolar and refered me again,I stopped going to appointments. Me and my partner broke up really badly after 8 years I got assaulted,my granda had just died and my daughter had severe disabilitys and I had a 1 year old little girl.trying to cut a long story short,I went manic for 6 mths then started having big shifts in mood, emotions, energy levels.
4658567 tn?1364142123 That being said, it is common for people with bipolar disorder to lose friendships for having bipolar disorder because of the stereotypes perpetuated and people's general lack of real understanding of mental illness. I could see it being hard for someone without the illness to understand if their friend was manic and doing some things she wouldn't have otherwise or even if the friend was depressed and withdrawing.
