varicose veins pregnancy support hose

I am not sure if I have varicose veins or not. I am around 50 lbs overweight and 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. My legs are aching really bad from the knees to my ankles. I do have some small prominent blue bulging veins near the surface, but they have been there for years and never hurt. Can a person have them so deep that you can't see it? I fell last week and have some very deep and large contusions on the front of my right leg. My calves seem to be slightly swollen, but my ankles are normal.

This is my third pregnancy and I am dealing with varicose veins for the first time. I am 16 weeks. They hurt and seem like they will only get worse with the pregnancy. I wear compression stockings at work and that seems to help. Not sure there is anything else I can do besides that and take it easy.Good luck!!

I wanted to know if varicose veins will diminish after pregnancy especially in genitals?

Does anyone else have really bad varicose veins? If so, what other ways can I deal with them rather than wearing support hose??

This year in May I stopped taking the birth control pills and a couple months later I noticed on my legs bulging varicose veins. The onset seemed to be quite sudden. Could the fact that I stopped taking the birth control pills caused the sudden onset of the varicose veins?

None that I know of. Support hose is the mainstay of conservative therapy.

Anyone else having trouble with them? They run in my family and I got them for the first time halfway through my first pregnancy and now in my second pregnancy they are "flared" up. I also started back at work do I'm on my feet a lot. I wear compression socks which help but is there anything else I can do to relieve the pain?

THAT PICTURE MAKES THEM LOOK LIGHT! I know they are normal but these hurt soooooo bad and they are swollen. I went and bought "support hose" and they did not work at all. I just started getting them really bad with this pregnancy but im scared they wont go away. Is there anything i can do to make them go away after i have my baby?? Im worried they will be big and ugly for the rest of my life and im only 23! any advice would really help!

My friend who just had her baby had a REALLY bad time for just one swollen ankle. She had a job where she stood all the time and she refused to wear support hose. The worst part was she also got varicose veins...so I would recommend, if you stand a lot, to wear the unfashionable maternity support hose...

If you are on your feet quite a bit I would get TED hose/ support stockings. They really do a good job at keeping the swelling down. Helps with blood flow and can decrease getting varicose veins. Also prop your feet above your heart.

Is it beneficial to have laser surgery for lumpy twisted varicose veins ? . Is one doing harm by putting off surgery indefinitely? I wonder if it prevents risk of dvt or stasis ulcers ? Do the veins just grow back? How long does the surgery tend to last? How does one stay as healthy as possible. Personally I find compression hose hot ,cumbersome so rarely use them. I miss wearing shorts in public and I put up with some leg cramps now and then.

Is that the same thing as little spidery purple veins? Not varicose veins, just tiny little networks of purplish veins in the breasts.

Hi, I am wondering why there isn't a varicose veins forum!? Where else might I post my varicose veins concerns? I posted in the Deep Vein Thrombosis forum but noticed it is rarely used. I'm not certain but isn't DVT a result of varicose veins? And if varicose veins are more common, with DVT being a side affect, then Why not change that forum to Varicose Veins? Regardless shouldn't there be a forum for varicose veins?

Seems like we share a few common things besides varicose veins. Only discovered I was preg at 14 weeks and am 27 weeks now and wld really want vbac but read somewhere saying they usually start inside so was also worried about obstruction of baby.

i seriously never thought of this. should i be worried? i had the varicose veins with my first pregnancy as well.... and i never had an issue during labour. my crotch is almost always swollen and has been for months... so im assuming that i have a lot of varicose veins. has anyone ever had a vein burst?

With my first pregnancy I developed many spider veins on my legs. This pregnancy i have developed some varicose veins. I have one that is protruding on my left inner calf and is right on top of bad spider vein. It is tender to the touch and i can feel a little discomfort walking up and down stairs. Is this normal or could it actually be a blood clot? It is not warm to the touch just painful and tender.

The doctor said that it's normal during pregnancy. It isn't varicose veins, it's just more blood flowing down there.

My right leg is loaded with them. I wear super duper Jobst brand support hose. They do help but don't cure the problem. They do subside when I'm not pregnant.

I'm on my 4th pregnancy And I started getting them in my 2nd pregnancy. The veins started to get more visible around my right ankle and I don't know how to explain it but on the back of my right calf I ended up get something looking like a small bunch of grapes due to the veins. And believe me now my veins r so much visible and feel really bumpy and a lot painful. I can't stand for a long periods of time and can't even do do my house chores.
