Varicose veins usually result from failures in valves in veins connecting the superficial veins to the deep system in your legs. This is a mechanical problem. No medicine can restore this function. Horse chestnut extracts have been studied and appear to decrease the swelling due to venous insufficiency but the appearance is unchanged.

If that is your concern also, there are signs that could indicate you have a clot somewhere along the vein (typically clots will be behind the knee in leg veins). If you notice your affected leg is red, swollen and tender then I would definitely call the doctor. The doctor will listen to the leg and can arrange to get your blood tested with regard to that - this is called a Doppler test. He will also be able to confirm whether it is varicose veins that you have and what can be done about them.

Well, I would look up Deep Vein Thrombosis, too, and see if any of the symptoms relate to what is happening to you. If it is a varicose vein it is no big deal, but if it is DVT you should go in and get checked, and don't wait until Monday if the symptoms match its description. Good luck; I hope it is just a v.v.

Basically i've had what appears to be a vein in my right leg, just to the side of my shin, that bulges out whenever i exercise. It does not appear when i just sit or lie down, only when i walk for a while, and comes out significantly when i run or play football. It does nto cause me any pain and has been there for a few years, i just notice it more lately as i exercise more, it might even be bigger. I'm wondering if i should get it checked out.

i always have pain only on the right side of my prostrate and the right leg and lower right side of my back and hip. the varicose veins are on the right side of my penis to and my right leg behind my nee. i am starting to wonder if my whole problem might be some kind of stricture some were in my pelvis on the right side. and im getting very worried about these varicose veins poping up on my leg does this make any sence to anyone reading this.

Hm. Does your leg swell? I personally would take this question to your doctor and make sure all is alright with the veins and circulation.

If you have varicose veins in your legs can you also have them in your head or lungs? what is the best treatment? laser, radio, surgery?

The thing that makes it worse in I have suffered with varicose veins in my legs which I have had treated but they seem to be coming back very quickly and I’m sure the dilation of my leg veins is accelerating this. If I am calm and feeling good I get no pain in my legs and feet but if I’m worked up I get pains in the arch of my foot and inside of my ankle below the bone, I also get a sensation in my feet of having things in my shoe mildly pressing in to my foot.

Has anyone else suffered from vaginal varicose veins this is my 3rd pregnancy and I'm 27 weeks.

Oh Im so sorry to say this but unless you have them removed with a laser the swelling will go down after delivery but they will never go away. I got them with my 3rd pregnancy and with my fourth pregnancy they werent that bad and now they hurt and are like bulging out of my skin. I only have them on my right leg but theyre embarrasing.

You can get clots. I thought i had one and they did a ultrasound on my leg. The symptoms of a clot however are hot to touch spot on leg, the leg would be noticeably more swollen than the other, and there would be pain in the leg. However, varicose veins can hurt too. I wouldn't worry just have your Dr. look at it. If your leg gets really swollen or starts to have pain call your Dr.

I have a varicose vein on my leg (on back of my quad), I'm only 21 years old and it is slowly spreading slightly onto my calf muscle now. It is also beginning to ache.Would I be priority in having it removed or will doctors just leave it as it is?

Could you have sprained it? Is the leg red and hot? If so possible cellulitis or an infection.

Hi, I am looking for support for my varicose veins! I have what would be considered a pretty severe case and I'm only 31 and male. I've had them since youth, but after all the chaos in my life in that past 5 yrs, I haven't been in touch with my body as much as usual!

Not to bad yet though but is definitely getting worse. I also have noticed vericose veins in adomen. 2 veins, one coming up each side. They also seem to be growing slowly. I also have very prominent veins in my arms, hands and feet. My legs and feet get very soar when I stand still and I almost always need to put my feet up after walking. I am very healthy, active and not overweight. My mother had vericose veins but nothing to the extent that I do. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I never knew the pooling of blood in this leg from the varicose veins contributed to my leg cramps, but apparently that was my culprit.
