Varicose veins in hands and arms

Common Questions and Answers about Varicose veins in hands and arms

varicose-veins

i used to work in a nursing home - almost without exception these elderly folks in their 70's and 80's (even some in their 60's) have exceptionally prominent, almost swollen-looking, blue veins in their hands and arms. is this just a "normal" part of the aging process - and what actually is the cause?
i am a male of 36 years and i have noticed my veins in my hands bulge a lot when my ilight>handsilight> are down ilight>andilight> the ilight>veinsilight> disappear when i raise my ilight>handsilight>. it is more noticeable ilight>inilight> summer than winter. Everybody keeps telling me its normal but i know something is wrong.
adding that on to the bulging heavy ilight>veinsilight> ilight>inilight> my ilight>handsilight>, ilight>armsilight>, feet, ilight>andilight> legs. yeah, that can't be normal. to me it does sound like a valve problem like dr sharma said. any other thoughts?
it started with me noticing the veins on my palms and fingers appearing very blue sometimes (almost like they've been drawn with blue pen) and has progressed from my hand ilight>andilight> feet up my legs ilight>andilight> ilight>armsilight> ilight>andilight> i also see ilight>veinsilight> on my neck ilight>andilight> around my eyes. This comes ilight>andilight> goes - there doesn't seem to be a pattern though i've noticed it generally happens more in the evening and doesn't seem linked to temperature.
Other possibility is of varicose veins. ilight>Varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight> are ilight>veinsilight> that have become enlarged ilight>andilight> twisted.they are common ilight>inilight> the superficial ilight>veinsilight> of the legs but can be present in arms also. Confirmatory tests are Doppler ultrasound and angiogram. i sincerely advise you to get it confirmed from a vascular surgeon. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
i have been looking into this a lot myself ilight>andilight> found out about spider ilight>veinsilight> ilight>andilight> ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight> ilight>andilight> i think that is what they are. i have just begun a new birth control pill after some problems with my hormone levels and am also on the end of my recent period - could this be causing it? i read that it can if you are on the pill and have imbalanced hormones - such as being pregnant or on your period. will they fade or disappear when my hormone levels are balanced?
the most common local conditions that cause edema are ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight> ilight>andilight> thrombophlebitis (a blood clot with inflammation of the ilight>veinsilight>) of the deep veins of the legs. these conditions can cause inadequate pumping of the blood by the veins (venous insufficiency).
i never rub them as i'm afraid they will get a clot. i have ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>andilight> spider ilight>veinsilight> ilight>inilight> my legs but the ilight>veinsilight> that do this are ilight>inilight> my hands, arms, head, etc and are not varicose or spider. Also sometimes my legs will hurt and ache so bad. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear myrtle: None of the symptoms you describe sounds like a blood clot.
i felt a thud ilight>inilight> my heart ilight>andilight> then the ilight>veinsilight> on my ilight>handsilight>, forearms ilight>andilight> calf area of my legs enlarged. the arms only drain to normal and are not visable when i raise my arms vertically. When i then lower my arms again the veins pop out again and are unsightly. i had never had this happen before. it is when at rest that it is worse. i have checked about fibromyalgia that i have had for years, but never had this vein issue until the 21st of May of this year.
i have this same thing which started over a month from now except this is happening in both hand ilight>andilight> both feet. i get pains ilight>inilight> my legs, feet, ilight>armsilight>, ilight>andilight> ilight>handsilight> even what seems to be my scalp when all of my veins are visibly huge. i have been to the ER twice afraid i am having some circulation issue. Whenever i go to the Dr and try to explain this to then they all have this look as if they have never heard of this happening before.
Please go to the doctor to be checked out. Over Christmas my inner thighs were extremely painful and i couldn't bear the pain when i touched my legs. it was an infection - Cellulitis and a course of antibiotis sorted it out. You can get the infection through cuts and punctures in the skin. the bacteria that usualy lives on our skin can enter through the cut into the deeper lays of the skin causing the infection especially if your immune system is low.
One week later after taking some pills, the pain, ilight>andilight> now tingling, was ilight>inilight> my ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> fingers. Doc agreed it was not varicous ilight>veinsilight> then. More pills..(this is a bit like starting a difficult engine by hitting it with a hammer!!) these didn't do anything, and now i have numbing in both legs which comes and goes with severity depending what i am doing, and hands which at times are numb, and then tingling, especially the finger tips. Sometime just two small fingers on the right hand.
2 veins, one coming up each side. they also seem to be growing slowly. i also have very prominent ilight>veinsilight> ilight>inilight> my ilight>armsilight>, ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> feet. my legs and feet get very soar when i stand still and i almost always need to put my feet up after walking. i am very healthy, active and not overweight. my mother had vericose veins but nothing to the extent that i do. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestion on what else i could try to fix the problem?
By the way i have been to docs ilight>andilight> derms a lot ilight>andilight> they too threw their ilight>handsilight> up ilight>inilight> the air ilight>andilight> left me to figgure things out for myself...so this is what works for me. Also if you mix 2tblsp sodium (ask your pharmacist for it) with 4oz petrolium jelly (shea butter smell is the best) at bedtime put mixture all over body and leave on 8 to 12 hours repeat for 3 days and then again in 7 days for three days. Again this is just advise let me know if it works for any one else.
i have varicose and spider veins in my legs but the ilight>veinsilight> that do this are ilight>inilight> my ilight>handsilight>, ilight>armsilight>, head, etc ilight>andilight> are not ilight>varicoseilight> or spider. Also sometimes my legs will hurt and ache so bad. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated!
Even warm weather doesn't relieve the feeling of burning, tingling and numbness. then, my ilight>veinsilight> started popping out big ilight>andilight> blue ilight>inilight> my feet, ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> ilight>armsilight>. i woke up with electrical tingling up the front of my legs and varicose veins began to form. Tests for blood flow showed everything was 'normal'. then the frontal vein in my forehead began to swell too and is causing a very uncomfortable 'full' feeling in my left brow with a feeling of pressure in my left eye and left nasal cavity.
Turns out i have Heavy Metal Poisioning ilight>andilight> the numbness i was experiening ilight>inilight> both ilight>handsilight>, feet ilight>andilight> legs was due to the metal that had attached themselves on my nerves. Within 3 days my symptoms were gone. if anybody has the opportunity to go see a herbalist i stongly suggest doing it. my doctor never even tested me for heavy metals...i am very disappointed in our health care system.
Hello, Common causes of ankle swelling include traumatic injury such as an ankle sprain or a fracture, gout (accumulation of uric acid crystals within the fluid of your ankle),ankle arthritis, infection (cellulitis or septic joint), problems with blood flow like DVT can impair normal circulation and lead to swelling around the ankles, pregnancy, obesity, and varicose veins.
For about a year, i now get engorged ilight>veinsilight> bulging ilight>inilight> my ilight>armsilight> to ilight>handsilight>, ancles to feet. it hurts, tightening pressure feeling but as i said yes its happening but they can't find a medical explanation for it. the only thing really left in my situation is automatic dysfunction probably due to the holes in my brain, nothing really left lol.
Like all of you, i have this condition, too. For probably 10+ years. it comes on for no apparent reason. i am a very healthy and active 60-year-old woman (feel like 40). i am thin and athletic, take vitamins daily (a good multivitamin with minerals, Super B, Vit C w/rosehips, 1200 mg of calcium + D. i'm also on thyroid medicine (Levoxyl, .075) for hypothyroidism and my TSH is in range and i'm feeling great. i exercise: power walking, push ups, yoga stretches, an occasional run.
Does anyone else have swelling ilight>inilight> their legs, feet, ilight>armsilight>, ilight>andilight> ilight>handsilight>? One of my legs is definitely more swollen than the other. Am i alone in this?
-off and on tingling down the back on my left leg to my foot -muscle aches and tightness (not extreme spacticity, but tighter than normal) -tingling in my ilight>armsilight> off ilight>andilight> on -occassional dizziness -low pulse ilight>andilight> low blood pressure -freezing cold ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> feet (and for the last 24 hours my right hand is ice and my left hand is normal?!) -really fatigued all the time does any of this sound familiar? i would appreciate any suggestions you have!
i feel more of the tingling and pressure ilight>inilight> my ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> stomach now ilight>andilight> the feeling is always there i also feel sensitivity ilight>inilight> them. i am now scheduled to have a visit to the rheumatologist and neurologist i was also thinking could this be a problem caused by something that i don't know thats inflamated inside?
Swelling on legs along with clotted ilight>veinsilight> can be due to number of causes like ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight>, deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis.it is best to seek the opinion of a physician and get evaluated. the doctor will further refer you to a specialist concerned. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
For a long time, i have had problems with ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight> ilight>andilight> oedema, ilight>andilight> periodic bouts of phlebitis, so when, a few months ago, i discovered a study was being done on the Naked Scientists forum - see this link: Varicose veins & iBT Study - i followed some of the links shown there, and realised that this could also help a long term back problem that i have, and other conditions, too. andrew agreed that i could join in the study group, and i spoke with my doctor about it too.
Having my blood pressure taken really, really hurt ilight>andilight> caused blue spider ilight>veinsilight> to pop up ilight>inilight> my ilight>handsilight>. sudden, acute Phlebitis in arms and legs since April 15th. Extremely painful from hips to feet. Even cloth lightly brushing against my legs causes a yelp of pain and i've almost passed out. New spider, varicose and large blue veins are popping up all over my legs, feet, forearms and hands.
-i also have a very hard/stiff penis when flaccid (like but 2inches long) -i experience a burning sensation ilight>inilight> my penis often ilight>inilight> the ilight>veinsilight>. -i have ilight>varicoseilight> ilight>veinsilight> on my testicles. -my testicles are smaller than before. -i have gradually had a harder and harder time getting erections and they are not "full". When erect my penis is about 5.5 inches instead of 6.
i had vesicular athlete's foot for a while that turned into Eczema or gave an eczematic reaction. As i treat the eczema ilight>andilight> foot fungus on my feet, the eczema on my ilight>handsilight> ilight>andilight> ilight>armsilight> that broke out go away. i've had little red, speckled bumps on my ankle for about a week that have improved with topical steroids. Here's my question. When i type in red bumps on ankle to google, i get Stasis Dermatitis and it says this can only be due to blood clots or serious circulation problems.
We've been to a Veinous specialist, orthopedic specialist ilight>andilight> a musculaskeletal specialist ilight>andilight> they are all shaking their heads ilight>inilight> dismay as to what this could possibly be. and...as you say she is almost always in some sort of pain and sometimes it's so bad she can hardly walk. and...yes it is in both calves at the same time. We had an MRi of her back done because that's theoretically where leg pain stems from, but her back looks fine.
i had my third child about 9 months ago and had had some trouble with varicose and spider ilight>veinsilight> ilight>inilight> the pregnancy ilight>andilight> now after. i called the cardiologist that looked at my ilight>veinsilight> previosly ilight>andilight> asked her nurse about it today. She was clueless. She thought that it sounded like hormones and a hot flash. But that sounds weird in the leg. She said that a clot would most likely be bulging and painful. i am going to try the B vitamin, and if that doesn't work i will get some tests run.
