Avatar m tn The bulging vessels in my hands are veins. Some veins, such as those in the legs, have special flaps which trap blood to prevent it flowing back down to your feet through gravity. This is why surgeons have to ensure they are the right way around when grafting as a bypass, or they sometimes destroy the flaps.

Avatar m tn Hello there. I am a 37 yr old chef, and work on my feet constantly. I have been through quite a bit in my life and have a very high pain tolerance, and also am pretty good about waiting things out. That said, I have a suddenly bulging vein that runs the course of my inner left leg the is not discolored, but hard and painful. I am aware of the movement of blood throughout the leg, I can feel it rushing,. It has gone cold and then tight and then cold a few times.
155701 tn?1230047101 When I lean against something (like the bathroom vanity), it feels like a big bruise. These are not spider veins or varicose. They look like normal veins except that they're very noticable and only on the upper region of my right thigh. I wouldn't be worried about them except for the fact that they feel like a bruise. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn Seems many of you have the same thing I do. About 3 years ago I had a sharp pain in my right leg I look doen only to find my vien above my knee had swelled up and I had a sharp pain that lasted about 15 min but the swollen vien stayed that way for about 45min. Avatar n tn Thanks, doctornee medical. Wasn't aware varicose veins occurred in the arms. I've added "no veins showing, no discoloration" to my text description, also. Have been checked for diabetes. Am following up on your suggestion of hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn Varicose veins usually result from failures in valves in veins connecting the superficial veins to the deep system in your legs. This is a mechanical problem. No medicine can restore this function. Horse chestnut extracts have been studied and appear to decrease the swelling due to venous insufficiency but the appearance is unchanged.
Avatar f tn Other possibility is of varicose veins. Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted. They are common in the superficial veins of the legs but can be present in arms also. Confirmatory tests are Doppler ultrasound and angiogram. I sincerely advise you to get it confirmed from a vascular surgeon. Avatar f tn 2 veins, one coming up each side. They also seem to be growing slowly. I also have very prominent veins in my arms, hands and feet. My legs and feet get very soar when I stand still and I almost always need to put my feet up after walking. I am very healthy, active and not overweight. My mother had vericose veins but nothing to the extent that I do. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestion on what else I could try to fix the problem?
1138687 tn?1548643978 Hi, I am wondering why there isn't a varicose veins forum!? Where else might I post my varicose veins concerns? I posted in the Deep Vein Thrombosis forum but noticed it is rarely used. I'm not certain but isn't DVT a result of varicose veins? And if varicose veins are more common, with DVT being a side affect, then Why not change that forum to Varicose Veins? Regardless shouldn't there be a forum for varicose veins?
Avatar f tn I thought I had a clot, and that is a sign. Do you have any pain in the bigger leg, or varicose veins that look different?
Avatar n tn If you already have varicose veins you may have some doubts about taking birth control pills. If your varicose veins are mild and are not a symptom of a more serious condition, your doctor may agree to prescribe a low-dose estrogen pill. In this case it's up to you to decide what your priorities are. You may feel that the advantages of taking the pill outweigh the risk of varicose veins. That said I doubt if taking the pill would stop the problem! Ask the doctor for his/her opinion.

Avatar f tn t be too worried about those veins as they are not varicose veins yet, but he told me that I am prone to develop them in the future. I was supposed to have a sclerotherapy procedure done on my legs on September this year. I was relieved that day. A few days later, I woke up with bulging veins all over my hands and arms. Then I got them on my chest, breasts and even a few on the lower part of my stomach.

2020005 tn?1628125976 Hey there, i just want to say dnp47 that was a wonderful post! thank you! I agree, I would show it to the doctor. At least just so they are updated on whats going on with your body. I also have heard, if it doesn't go away after the baby, that apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it) can be applied to the area to help varicose veins. I haven't had any to see if it works yet on myself but if you are curious to try its an idea to look up and try.
Avatar f tn Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. That's because standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins of your lower body. Sometimes varicose veins lead to more-serious problems. Varicose veins may also signal a higher risk of other circulatory problems. Treatment may involve self-care measures or procedures by your doctor to close or remove veins.
Avatar m tn This appears to be due to incompetent valves in deep veins of hands or varicose veins. You need to consult a surgeon for examination. You will have to undergo a duplex ultrasound of the veins to confirm the diagnosis. Hyperhidrosis, raynaud’s phenomenon are other possibilities and connective tissue disorders like scleroderma, polymyositis, rheumatoid arthritis, SLE etc. will have to be checked for. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms may be related to a vascular issue rather than a neurologic one. Specifically, varicose veins can cause a burning or pain in the feet and behind the knees that is felt less during movement. Most often, bulging veins will be visible on the legs. This is more likely if you stand a lot; treatment is with compression stockings, leg elevation, and sometimes there are injection or surgical treatments available.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I looked in the mirror last night, and my chest, breasts and arms looked like someone had taken a thick marker and drawn on me. Thick dark blue veins covered the area from the top of my chest all the way down to my wrists. It lasted an hour or so then lightened back to almost normal. Had a total hysterectomy in 2002, so it's not pregnancy.
Avatar m tn Varicose veins are in some cases unavoidable. Many times, there are ways to naturally prevent and soothe them. Get plenty of exercise to get your blood circulating, Elevate your legs on pillows daily for 10 minutes or more, Avoid excess weight gain, Dry-brush your legs daily to improve circulation. (This can prevent varicose veins from forming.) Use a natural-bristle brush with a long handle that allows you to reach all parts of your body.
