I am 24weeks pregnant & a couple of days ago I noticed a HUGE varicose vein down th inside of my left thigh coming from my undie line & towards my knee, it's about 30cm long :( anyone else have this problem? Anything I can or should do about it?
Swelling over feet and leg, may be due to many other reasons , except Varicose vein. If the swelling is causing pain while 1) squeezing the calf muscles around the knees, 2) moving the great toe of the foot, then we can still co-relate with Varicose vein. Else its related to lymphatic obstruction, for which we need to - 1) Keep the limb elevated , while sleeping, sitting 2) Massage of the limbs. 3) Control the body weight. 4) Rule out heart problems.
I am not sure if I have varicose veins or not. I am around 50 lbs overweight and 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. My legs are aching really bad from the knees to my ankles. I do have some small prominent blue bulging veins near the surface, but they have been there for years and never hurt. Can a person have them so deep that you can't see it? I fell last week and have some very deep and large contusions on the front of my right leg. My calves seem to be slightly swollen, but my ankles are normal.
Is it o.k. to wear a knee brace that also covers the vaiacose vein in my shin. without the brace I have pain in my knee cap & not sure if any pain is from the varicose vein. it does feel better with the brace on But will it do harm to the varicose vein?
I'm just mentioning the pain because I don't know anything about varicose veins and the type of pain they can cause, in case they are related in some way. Sorry for the wordy question. So: am I doing any damage by having straps that press on the veins and does pressing on the veins make them hurt?
Do discuss this with your doctor. You may need X-ray or MRI of the knee or dopplar study to rule out varicose vein. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
I'm 16 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy and have noticed varicose veins on the backs of my knees/legs, are they permenant?
One RCT found that local anaesthetic flush of the long saphenous vein channel after stripping reduced postoperative pain over 6 weeks, analgesic intake over 1 week and haematoma formation. I am not really familiar with this but I did find some information for you. It seems brusing is comman as well as pain and cramps. I would talk to your Dr though because it could be something that needs to be taken care of right away. I hope this helps a little.
Hi everyone, I'm not sure that this is the right area to post this question but I didn't see anywhere else concerning veins - just curious, I developed some varicose veins on the back of my knees while pregnant a few years ago and recently, after exercising, one of them is very painful. I played volleyball last week and felt as though I had pulled a muscle on the back of my leg the following day. It was pretty sore.
I’ve had varicose veins on one of my legs for some time and as a result a lump had developed on the calf just below the knee. I had no knowledge about the veins (shame on me), until one day when the lump became red and painful and I started to educate myself after a doctor’s visit. I don’t know if this was a coincident or not, but it became inflamed after my dental appointment where I was given some anesthetics in order to remove a 4 unit bridge.
The only visible symptoms are the enlarged veins on the penis and prominent varicose veins around my right knee and some prominent varicose behind my left knee (I think I have never had varicose problems prior to this). Is this all stress-related or a possible STD? I have been to see my doctor in week 3 and I am currently waiting on tests for Hep A, Hep B, Syphillis and HIV. The doctor did not feel the need to test for anything else after his examination.
Well, first it has to the determined if the swelling in your case is actually due to varicose veins or something else. Possibilities include vascular aneurysms, muscular growths, growths from surrounding connective tissue etc. Shin pains could occur from a variety of other reasons as well, like fractures, inflammations etc. Assuming the swelling to be due to varicose veins, management is largely dependent on the severity, the associated complications and cosmetic reasons.
Lower position of legs as maintained while driving/prolonged standing or sitting in one position is usually the cause of varicose veins/spider veins (the blue bulging veins). This happens due to stagnation of blood in the lower part of the leg or due to faulty valves in the deep veins which prevent upward squeezing of the blood. Also, if you sit in a particular portion for long, the leg muscles stop their contraction and relaxation and this prevents upward motion of the blood.
or is there a chance that there is blood moving into different veins causing pain? An explantion for the pain would be great. Thankyou.

hi, I am 24 year old male, i have varicose veins in my calf for 2 years, since june i started to develop pain in my thigh and when i was squeezing my thigh i can feel somethings along the muscle from my buttock to my knee , it is like the vertebral column, thickened stuff along my back thigh,, i went to see the MD , internal medicine, he said that he has to make doppler on the veins because he was suspecting dvt but the x-ray was ok no clogs and no dvt so he told it is most likely varicoses exte
What other symptoms are present? Varicose veins are swollen and painful veins that have filled with an abnormal collection of blood. This is often associated with pregnancy as well as standing for a long time and having increased pressure in the abdomen. Diagnosis is made based on the appearance of the leg veins when you are standing or sitting with your legs dangling. Diagnostic tests such as duplex ultrasound exam of the extremity may also be done.
I have difficulty standing long in the last month or so due to this and ALSO my veins behind the knee are enlarged at the times the lump is larger causing a lot of pain on the whole back of leg. I don't know who to see= a orthopedist or a venous specialist or both?
Deep vein thrombosis usually present with pain and swelling, warmth over the affected area, and changes in the skin color, such as turning pale, red or blue. While symptoms of varicose veins include fullness, heaviness, aching, and sometimes pain in the legs; visible, enlarged veins; mild swelling of ankles; brown discoloration and even skin ulcers near the ankle. With diabetes, monitoring of blood glucose to ensure normal levels is highly recommended.

DVT, it's a really thick, long vein in the front of my thigh, doesn't really look like a varicose vein, almost just like the veins that run through your breasts, just a little more bulged, if you know what I mean. I have no pain or swelling, just concerned me, since it's the only vein that's doing it!!
i would imagine that would work like getting one of those injections (stops blood flow and turns the vein into scar tissue). also, is it possible that if i do have a varicose vein pinched long enough that it could make a blood clot and kill me?
What about varicose veins? Varicose veins are not dangerous, and they are NOT thrombophlebitis. Varicose veins are a problem with gravity and the weight of the baby on the drainage of superficial veins back up toward the heart. Varicose veins are mere engorgements of these structures and have nothing to do with clots in the deep veins of the legs. Although they can hurt, they don't present as the danger that deep blood clots are.
He has some degree of varicose veins (mostly bulging veins above his ankles) but it is not painful to him just unsightly. The following is a snapshot of his recent medical history. He had prostate treatment (had enlarged prostate so they gave him lupron prior and during radiation) and finished treatment earlier this year. About 4-6 weeks ago he noticed his right nipple was painful and there is a lump or a mass of some sort there.
I have NO lump or bump behind my knee. THe pain is a throbbing pinching pain. (maybe even a pinched nerve)? It is worse when i am sitting for long periods and then stand to walk. I'll have to limp for less than a minute, and then it will go away on its own (for a bit). I guess i'd like to know your opinions on what else it could be? Sometimes it feels like pressure, other times burning..it's very odd. Thank you.
Other possible causes for this leg and calf swelling may be superficial phlebitis, varicose veins and lymphedema. For people with mild lymphedema, compression bandages can reduce the swelling. People who are more severely affected may wear pneumatic stockings every day for an hour or two to reduce the swelling. Once the swelling has been reduced, the person must wear elastic stockings up to the knee every day from the moment of rising until bedtime. This controls the swelling to some degree.
