In any event, my inital symptoms were quite severe-- fever, groin lymphadenopathy, introtial burning and small red lesions. I started on the inital course of 1000mg Valtrex BID immediately on 10/5-- about two days after my inital symptoms began. I finished the ten day course, but was still experiencing burning as well as neuropathic pain in my feet and buttocks, so I started an additional 10 day course, which finished on 10/25.

I have taking both Valtrex & Acyclovir in the past and for me, Valtrex seems to work a lot better for clearing up an ob quicker. Since moving back to the U.S. from Europe, I cannot believe how expensive Valtrex is here in the U.S.! I just want to get confirmation that there is a Generic Valtrex that is NOT Acyclovir - it that correct? My online pharmacy is offering me Valcyclovir which is a lot cheaper than Valtrex but I just want to make sure it isn't Acyclovir before I purchase it.

Because of that unique delivery method, you get more active acyclovir available to fight the herpes virus when it's active so you take it less often. I have been reading a lot and am a bit perplexed. Last Friday night I had unprotected sex with a female.
I awoke Monday morning and noticed 2 red bumps on my upper left thigh (1 larger than the other), 3 small bumps in my pubic region (2 of which looked like zits with white heads), some reddish/flesh colored bumps beginning to arise on the shaft of my penis.
I'm a male in my 30s with genital hsv-1. I've had it for about 5 years now - after the primary outbreak I had another one about 6 months later. Since then, I've not had any visible outbreaks. In the past year I've been taking 500 MG of Valacyclovir every day because I want to take every available precaution to protect my partner, who is hsv negative. We use condoms always as well.
Maybe the once daily valacyclovir will help alleviate some of this anxiety. Any knew opinions on taking 500mg daily vs.1 gm daily?

Generic valacyclovir is equally effective as the Valtrex brand. If it isn't working, it suggests that the problem isn't herpes. Probably the best approach at this point is to promptly (within a couple of days) get professionally examined to confirm the diagnosis of the current problem. I'm not necessarily doubting that you have genital herpes, just questioning this particular episode.
Alternatively, is there any possibility you have newly acquired herpes?
I have read on the boards that valacyclovir will delay the onset of a positive igg test. At what point after stopping valtrex is an igg test once again considered valid.
I was (incorrectly) prescribed 3 weeks of Valtrex that was taken weeks 8 - 10 post exposure, then tested negative at week 12. Should I retest at week 16?
they did swab test and it came out to be HSV-2. I start taking Valacyclovir 1000mg for 1.5 week period (after 2 weeks from unprotected oral sex).
3. My question is - Will taking Valacyclovir for 1.5 weeks after 2 weeks from possible Exposure (TO HIV) will delay production on HIV antibodies. If yes how long i have to wait to get accurate test result with HIV Rapid Test (Insti by Biolitical Laboratories Canada.)
