We practice safe sex. My partner has lyme disease. We are concerned that may increase her risk of getting HSV2. Do you have any insights or suggestions given our situation? How much does the risk of transmission go up if we do not use condoms but remain on suppressive therapy? thanks for your help.

Sorry I posted a faulty message above. You need to really look into Lyme disease. It's a huge overlooked epidemic right now. The only doctors who can treat it are LLMDs (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor ) infectious disease doctors, primary care doctors and rheumatologist all have absolutely NO IDEA how to treat it correctly. My best advice is to post in the Lyme disease section on this website. There is alot of very knowledgable and helpful people on the medhelp Lyme disease forum!!

Lyme disease is a closer possibility, although researchers think Lymes MIGHT lay dormant and come out when a stressor appears such as EBV. HSV, CMV. I would get the IGENEX Lymes test or contact ILADS (www.ilads.org) to check your symptoms. The Borrelia bacteria is known to cause anxiety, sleep disorders and heart palpitations or Mitral Valve prolapse. Dont waste any time. The sooner you can get tested, the better your chances of recovery.

I recently was diagnosed with lyme disease and hsv 2. The hsv 2 results were: igm 1. something and igg 3.3 something. Not sure of the specific test though. I was given the test because I had a small group of bumps on my back. They were itchy and tender. After about a week or 2 they scabbed over and went away. My dr. had no clue as to what could be the culprit. I've been reading all kinds of posts and threads. So now im wondering if the bumps on my back could have been shingles.

Well after the positive lyme test, their daughter refused to accept the lyme diagnosis and treatment for lyme. Why ? Because she was already addicted to painkillers and I think the lyme disease had by then affected her decision making (as well as all of the drugs she had been taking). I was tested for lyme disease over a year ago by my family physician. Test results came back negative. I was reading an article in a magazine concerning symptoms of lyme disease and everything listed as symptoms I seem to have. I am trying to find a specialist in my area who is knowledgable in this area. Should I have another blood test done to see if things have changed?

And what I meant by doing another western blot is that ive read sometimes doctor give you a trail run of antibiotics if they are not sure if you have Lyme Disease and it might produce a positive IgG if I did have lymes disease...

He has been on Doxycycline for a week now, even though his results for Lyme were negative. Is it normal to have negative results if you do have Lyme disease? Is it normal for a fever to last for weeks. When can he expect to start feeling better? Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We've all been through the mill and can perhaps give you some information from our collective experience. There is a recent book called Cure Unknown by Weintraub that I highly recommend -- it describes what people have gone through trying to find a diagnosis and treatment and the mess that the scientific and medical communities are in about Lyme and its coinfections.

Welcome to MedHelp Lyme -- Sorry to hear what you are going through -- you are, in my not-medically-trained opinion, having symptoms that could be associated with Lyme disease. Many MDs are not familiar with the broad range of symptoms that may appear in a Lyme infection and often cycle seasonally and also every few weeks (it's different in everyone). That is, I think, part of what makes it hard for docs to recognize Lyme when they see it.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection carried by ticks that may also carry other diseases. The tests and treatments are different for the various diseases. I am not medically trained and it may be possible that all the Lyme bacteria can be killed by the immune system and we just dont know it has happened, but there are so many people sick with Lyme that I would get treated just to be sure. Did your son's doctor advise against treatment?

I saw an ID specialist regarding Lyme disease. He doubts that I even have Lyme. He said the lab that was used for the Lyme tests is known for their false positives. He said I don't have anything. I told him the horrible burning pain in my penis is now subsiding but I've been taking doxycycline for 1 month. Hopefully you will have some luck and success getting tested for Lyme - while your symptoms don't have to be Lyme, they could very well be Lyme (not to forget co-infections). You may need to find a Lyme dr. to interpret the results if they aren't definitive enough for a non-Lyme expert to read. Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

So I have been bitten by many ticks in my time - I live in Scotland. I have never noticed any rashes or flu like symptoms after infection either. However, recently (years after I have been bitten), I've developed some symptoms I believe are suggestive of lyme or co-infections. It started with anxiety 2 months ago (which has now pretty much gone). It then progressed to dizziness and breathlessness for around 2 weeks - I sometimes still get occasionally dizzy.
