I was diagnosed with CAEBV in Feb of this year. My doctor prescribed 2g 2x/day valtrex. When I took it I couldn't move. I went from needing a rest after each activity to taking 30 minutes to figure out to move my body to the bathroom. My doc said I could reduce the dosage so I started taking 1g in the day and 2 at night. I was still very limited but could function for one activity a day and could lay in bed and read books/play games with my kids.

is valtrex the only medicine that works for genital herpes? obviously nothing can get rid of it but is that the only medicine scientifically proven to help ?

It does well under Valtrex treatment, but recently I had another outbreak and the doctor took a culture this time(never actually done one before) and said it is negative for HSV. Is this possible?

Had a sore on upper lip in May. Wasn't sure this was a sore bc I've never had one. At first It was more like dry lips, and I picked the dry skin off. Then it started to get dark in color and wasn't healing properly. I waited until after memorial day to go to the Dr. He prescribed Valtrex and told me it looks like herpes virus. I took it for one week and this didn't get any better. He then prescribed a topical antibiotic bc he said it looked infected.

About 2 weeks ago I started getting really bad burning on my genitals above the bottom more on lips. Constantly at the doctors couldn't figure it out. Had a STD teat done negative. The burning stopped but received a little irritation on one side with a lot of discharge. It's doesn't itch or burn when u urinate but the soar is not going away. My doctor told a culture but wasn't enough fluid for the test to determine but he feel like that it is not herpes.

old, sharing food (hands in the chip/cookie bag), even physical contact with me and my kids? He suggests I use kids shower for now on (avoid damp, germ-congregating areas). I am very upset, because I am planning for kids this year. I am very scared of having a baby know since herpes V. in my blood. What if i had a breakout while i am pregnant. can i use valtrex while i am pregnant. Medication will effect babys growth. so many questions and fears. someone please help me. I know i need to talk to my DR. but, in the meanwhile i cant wait to findout from people who has/who's family member had this same problem.

I dont have any issues with cold sores or anything, though I have HSV1. My sister has HSV2 (genital) and she has had two kids- it is important that your OBGYN knows this. During pregnancy it's usually not an issue but when you go into labor- if you have ANY sores present, a C-section must be done. Also, I do not believe Valtrex is safe during pregnancy in case you take it.

How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?

So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?

My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.

I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?

If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?

She put me on valtrex it seems like the valtrex shortened the outbreaks but i have tingling every day and i dont know why. and I still have outbreaks, so why is this?

OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).

Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else

The Dr. has put me on valtrex for two years and then i do not take anylonger. I am a single woman and no kids, I am wondering how do i date with this? Who wants to date a woman with this. But i feel strongly about telling a future partner upfront. people i talk to say its very painful. I have not experienced that. so i would assume that hsv-2 is what i have? given two different results.
