Valtrex kidney

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex kidney

valtrex

Also, if I take Valtrex 500mg every day for the forseeable future are there any risks? i.e. kidney/liver problems down the track etc? Thanks.
All the same, when I started dating my boyfriend almost a year ago, who does not have herpes, I chose to go on valtrex preventatively just to take that extra step to not transmit it to him. Well, even though we're still together, the herpes has been an issue and we haven't had sex in a very long time, lets put it at that. This leads me to my problem currently with valtrex...
another concern is that the packet that came from the pharmacy with the prescription specifically names one of the antibiotics that i have been taking intravenously for the past few weeks as something not to take with valtrex as it may cause serious kidney damage. i just stopped taking the iv med 1 day before i started taking valtrex. should i be concerned about that? and shouldnt the dr have paid attention to that risk?
i know themedications such as valtrex are very strong and can affect the liver, one should have it tested once a year if on valtrex, but i doubt the herpes caused kidney failure,
Both test were positive so I started taking Valtrex daily. I have not had any outbreaks or noticable symtoms for well over a year. Recently a very well respected researcher in the field of HSV said that while my symptoms did sound like Herpes she has "lingering doubts" regarding my positve results because of the low IgG score and suggested a Western Blot test.
I was in Las Vegas when I started developing horrible flu like symptoms and started getting open blisters on my testicles. I was perscribed Valtrex (500mg - 2x a day) by my doctor. Within a few days the blisters/sores started drying up and healing. After about a week all I had was a reddish mark. The doctor did a live culture that came back negative for Herpes though. (???) Now it's been a few months and it started to come back.
I am going to have my Kidneys and liver function checked every 3 months for now. Valtrex can cause kidney and liver issues, and renal issues, but all medications have a list of side effects, so far I have had no side effects at all, except I feel better, that's a great side effect !!!! Anyway, I didn't want to post this in here until I was on the treatment long enough to be pretty dang sure, nothing else could have turned this around like it has, and then I found the study Dr Lerner did..
I have HSV 2 and am very sure I exposed my partner 30 days ago, as he began having symptoms a few days later after I suspected a breakout of mine that was extremely mild and almost went unnoticed. He started taking some of my Valtrex to relieve some of his painful symptoms (the main one being a burning sensation while urinating and some groin pain) and it went away almost immediately.
Can having a high index of HSV 1 interfere with the result of a positive HSV 2 result? Also when you are taking valtrex do they do blood test to make sure your kidney levels are fine since I have read that it can affect the kidneys.
Hi, I was diagnosed with HSV about 15 years ago and now take 500mg of Valtrex daily which seems to have helped supress outbreaks. But, for about the past year, I have begun to experience extreme pain in both my legs (calves, thighs, chins, etc.) The pain is constant, burning, and becoming unbearable. I also have occasional pain in my lower right back; I believe it's in the kidneys. The kidney pain is not as constant but is very debilitating. Has anyone else experienced either of these symptoms?
with daily Valtrex and condom use=99% he will NOT get either of the herpes; with the Valtrex but without condom=98% he will NOT get it. (GREAT odds I must say! Please check me if theses %s are correct. Where does one get a female condom? Do they award even better protection than a male condom? Even though I've had no outbreaks that I can tell in a very long time(1-2yrs.), when I did the first couple of times the perineal area towards the anus was affected also.
I also recommend you have your provider do a kidney panel on you to check kidney function if you've been on that dose for more than a week. I can't believe a pharmacist filled that and didn't question your provider about the dose!!
my symptoms (pain, bloody urine, straining) always clear up pretty quickly. Last month I got a kidney stone which I thought might be related to the acyclovir i was taking so I stopped. Within a couple weeks it started happening again. Ive had 2 OBs in 6 weeks, both preceded by what I think is a UTI. Has anybody else had this happen BEFORE an OB? Im at my wits end and I can't keep going back to the doctor, they just continue to throw abx at me.
but at the time of theese, i also had a kidney infection. also, was wondering if valtrex could slow or stop the production of antibodies as i started this in about july of that same year.
You do not need to take the valtrex daily. I cannot take it daily because it causes kidney issues, but my doc suggested the following. I take one when I first feel the tingle, before you see anything, and another every 12 hours for 2 days, or till its gone. As long as I start the med before it erupts I can stop them Since I began doing that I have not had any come up, and the frequency of me taking the med has decreased signifigantly.
Prior to that I was taking Valtrex (500 mg) once daily for 18 months. For the past few months I have noticed that my blood pressure is elevated (140s-160s sys over 80s-90s dia). Could the use of acyclovir be causing this? Any insight is appreciated.
The other time I felt the burning, but there was nothing visible, but since it was in the same place, the doctors decided to exercise caution and prescribed the antiviral and antibiotics, too. This time it was that Valtrex you would've seen the commercials for. Valtrex bothered my stomach a little bit, but I told myself that it was better than breaking out with the full on shingles rash.
I have had one partner for 2 months and have had unprotected vaginal, anal and oral sex with him from week 2. I started with symptoms that were diagnosed originally as a kidney infection (high fever, body aches, sharp pain in right flank, high WBC's in urine) and was treated about 4 weeks ago. Now starting this past Thursday I started with body aches again, right flank pain etc.
Is so much valtrex safe? Will my body become resistant to the Valtrex? Am I a rare case? Should I see an infectious disease specialist? Should I be put on other medication? Do you think this will subside with time? I feel like I am a walking infectious being. The mental strain has become extremely unbearable. My everyday motivation is gone. I worry about infecting my girlfriend. It seems I am telling her 3 out of 4 weeks I cant kiss her,....
I went to my PCP who diagnosed me with herpes from visual inspection. He prescribed me Valtrex and tested IGG and IGM antibodies. The bump was already going away so I did not start the Valtrex. 5 days later I discovered two more small bumps on the inner labia minora. I went to the gynecologist one day after discovering the bumps and was swab tested for herpes. I also started the Valtrex. She diagnosed me with herpes as well, (since at that time the IGM test had not came back).
Should I get tested again soon? The Doctor put me on Valtrex and told me to do a follow-up in two months (I think that is only for my liver/kidney analysis). I have been reading alot about the virus and the presense of IGM without IgG...could this elude to another infection. Do I really have genital herpes? What do you suggest? How long does it take for IgG to become detectable? How long does IgM remain detectable? Please help. I appreciate your time.
I also got a bad eye infection, was seen by an Opthamologist who didn't find it was herpes per se, though he did counsel me to remain on Valtrex till all pills are gone. I don't understand why this time is so much worse, and is going on this long, one week now. Please, has anyone else had this problem, and how did it resolve?
Although the Hep A has long since cleared the EBV if that what truly is causing my problems has wrecked my world. Burning skin and muscles. Joint pain, muscle pain, exhaustion, and kidney pain in lower back. I am so at the end of my rope. There is hope though. Recently I have read that there is a growing number of doctors and people that are believing that anti virals like Valtrex and such, are effective at combating chronic EBV.
However the new doctor that I am with (who has admitted a lack of experience with Acyclovir) feels that this is a very high dose and warned me that the drug could cause kidney problems over the long term. The second doctor recommends a dose of one 400mg dose a day, eventually tapering off to stopping the Acyclovir. In addition, other doctors I have seen in the past have suggested that a dose of 800mg of Acyclovir 5 times a day is a better treatment.
Or does this mean that he can give me unprotected oral sex but I cannot give him unprotected oral sex? Also, he cannot take Valtrex/Acyclovir because he has one kidney and RSD and his doctor advised against it. We have a long distance relationship and I was wondering: if I take acyclovir or valtrex, say, a week before we get together and continue it during the week we're together and then one more week after I return home, will this help protect me? I appreciate your answer.
Also about the kidneys - I wanted to know if the Valtrex would affect my kidney function not whether or not the level renal function affected the level of Valtrex.
I have HSV2 - have been on Valtrex from ten years - and have no symptoms at all. I had unprotected sex with a partner in November and in February she has become infected - we THINK by me. I always thought that the symptoms would show after 2-3 weeks. Is it possible that I gave her the infection? I have never - as far as I know - given anybody the Herpes Virus. She however has been told that it can take up to a year or two for symptoms to show after sexual intercourse...
Talk to your doctor about alcohol and valtrex. What do you mean the long term consequenses?
On the 23rd of Sep 08, had my first GHSVs outbreak in two years, than another on the 1st of Feb 09, than another on the 28th of Feb 09 than another on the 6th of Apr 09 and the last on being on the 16th of May 09, recently noticed that they always came with an upset stomach, treated every outbreak with Valtrex twice a day for three days, seemed to work well.
B) I have borderline High Blood Pressure, kidney stones, some protein in the urine and a father with kidney failure –at the age of 73-, am already taking one Crestor 10mg/day for my high cholesterol, not sure it is wise to take any more daily meds? C) Cost; where I live 6 Valtrex 500 cost almost US$ 35.00. 6) Years ago I did the HSV 1&2 blood test; positive, so I assume it is Herpes, as it looks and feels like it and react to Valtrex accordingly, should I still do the swab test?
