Valtrex dosage treatment symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex dosage treatment symptoms

valtrex

Avatar n tn ve only had one partner so, yes, it only takes once!). Anyway, I keep reading that for suppression valtrex is once a day and acyclovir is 400 mg twice a day. My dr prescriped 800mg once a day. What's the difference, why would someone take acyclovir twice a day when they could just take it once? Is there an advantage to taking it twice a day? My second question is that when I am having an outbreak should I increase the dosage?
Avatar f tn I may start a new thread ( and thus pay for your time ) regarding valtrex usage (ie dosage 500 vs 1000 , or 500 usually but 1000 for a few days if symptoms occur). I'll post that later.
Avatar f tn However, valtrex did help alleviate my symptoms. He said sometimes the tests are wrong and I began a new treatment of 2g valtrex (1g twice a day) at the 1st sign of an upcoming outbreak and then (500mg) twice a day for 5 days. ( I have an extremely pronounced "prodrome" so I know it's coming a few days before it gets really bad- I get horrible gas, an itching feeling, followed by soreness, and nausea.) Even with the new dosage Iwas still having monthly outbreaks..
Avatar f tn Well I've been on 1 mg per day since Oct because I'm so paranoid about an outbreak. The past 2 or 3 weeks I've felt occassional tingling on my upper lip and in the one spot that is right above my pubic bone. And the past 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I feel like my lymph node on pelvis occassionally flares up and I seem to feel a bit of pain that stays at the top of my thigh. I also feel like my breasts are also getting that flare up a little.
Avatar m tn The only somewhat unusual aspect, according to my Dr., is that I still have these symptoms after taking Valtrex, though the symptoms do seem to be reduced in severity. He simply told me that Valtrex does not work for everyone, and that he was willing to try different doses to see if it helped. He was pretty dismissive of the idea that the symptoms could be anything else - he said that it looked like herpes to him.
Avatar m tn I recently had by second OB mid-June (about two weeks ago). This OB was much more mild, with just a few bumps. I took a 3 day dosage of valtrex, and it cleared up. However, only about a week after, I started my third OB which I am currently going through. This one has no actual sores or visible effects, but there is itching, burning, and a lot of tingling. Here are my questions: 1. Is it normal to have this many OBs with HSV-1?
Avatar m tn I used acyclovir, and I believe it was 4 days I was given a one day treatment of Valtrex. 4 pills 2 times in one day, in all 8 pills. I can't remember what size they were. My blisters have improved dramatically, and the swelling in my lip seems to have completely subsided. My question is this. After having taken the valtrex, am I know much less contagious? Let me be more clear. When I look at my lips closely, I see what I think could be remaining small blisters.
Avatar f tn I knew that each time this blister on my lip popped out I would have all those symptoms. I just started the valtrex so hopefully I will see an improvement this month. Has anyone else saw a connection?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
Avatar n tn I have, however, felt tingling every once and a while and a slight ache in my labia. At the onset of these symptoms, I would increase my dosage to 1000 mg twice per day. I was tested (blood serum) a third time last week and received my test results today. I tested negative for every SDT, including HSV II. Confirmatory tests were also administered, and both the initial and confirmatory tests were negative.
Avatar n tn The visual diagnosis by a knowledgeable provider is usually valid and most aspects of your initial symptoms are typical, as is the improvement with Valtrex treatment. Some asepcts are not typical, especially the apparent delay of symptoms until a little more than 3 weeks after exposure. It can take that long, but the incubation period usually is 3-10 days. Also, it is true that your HSV-2 blood test results are on the low side -- technically positive but borderline.
Avatar n tn it started in one area then a week later expanded to another area. my whole labia is blotchy red and bumby and nothing is clearing it. i started upping my dosage of valtrex the second i thought the ob was coming on and now its been going on three weeks and it conitnually gets worse. i tried tea tree oil and lemon balm but nothing is helping it.i am wondering if the valtrex doesnt work for me.
Avatar m tn For Valacyclovir and Valtrex the recommended dosage is 2000mg every 12 hours...total of 4000mg in 24 hours. I have 2000mg of Valtrex and 2000mg Valacyclovir from prior outbreaks. Can I take them together for the some effect? Or do I need to take the 4000mg total dose with the same drug? 2) I am getting cold sores on the lip up to 3 times a year. There is no common catalyst. Each outbreak if not treated early is as severe as all the rest. From what I've read this is unlikely.
55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
127596 tn?1210922622 She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly. Indeed I remembered that the empty bottle was for a seven-day dosage. But in all of the times that I've seen her, I never noticed a cold sore. Of course, she didn't have any sores anywhere else on her body either.
Avatar f tn or bumps and ulcerations. Today, I went to fill the Valtrex prescription my doctor wrote out for me, and my insurance didnt even pay for it. I dont have 250 bucks monthly for medication for the rest of my life. I ams till in my 20s and this sucks. I am seriously praying for a miracle. I am saddened that I have this virus. I wanted to be normal again...
