How were you diagnosed as having genital herpes?
Best bet is to be seen if having such frequent outbreaks. Just because you have herpes doesn't mean that everything IS herpes. I can vouch for that myself.
You will never permanently suppress the virus with antivirals - but that sure would be awesome if it could do that! What dosage are you taking? Depending on if you're taking Valtrex or Acyclovir, you'll want to be sure it's the right dose.
I took one Acyclovir pill that day then twice a day for about 3-4 days, not sure of the dosage, but the outbreak seemed to be going away, then today I felt the pain again. The outbreak is still there but much smaller.
I did miss a couple of days
I asked my doctor to prescribe Valtrex, she did, so I will start taking that today twice a day for 3 days.
Any thoughts or experiences like this?
I went in to get the sores looked at and they diagnosed me with Simplex 1 in my genital area. They put me on 2 grams of Valtrex every 12 hours right away to clear the initial outbreak, so I'm just waiting to see when they clear up.
He then told me to stop taking the meds until I feel another outbreak coming on. If a pattern occurs, he suggested going on supressive regiment of the Valtrex.

Hi there. I have had HSV-1 genitally for 17 years. After a few initial outbreaks, it went dormant until last year when it came back with a fury. I went on Acyclovir as a suppressant at first, but kept having OBs, so switched to Valtrex in February of this year. It worked beautifully at first. I then had a small outbreak in June that lasted 5 days. I am currently having an outbreak that began over a month ago.

Again, continuous symptoms are not usually indicative of herpes. I'm not clear how the Valtrex is helping if you don't have herpes, though. It does seem to me that if you had herpes, at some point you would have lesions.
A small dose? I'm not sure how you are defining that, but suppressive therapy, medicine taken every day, can definitely postpone antibody development.
I have had herpes since 1989 and I ALWAYS know when an outbreak is imminent because of these symptoms. Know your body and pay attention to the ailments that immediately precede an outbreak. Unfortunately it seems I know more about the virus than any of the doctors that have treated me do. And they don't seem interested in learning, only prescribing expensive Valtrex. SMH. We will never find a cure as long a the anti-viral industry is a multi-trillion dollar industry.
What would their outbreak be like? Does Valtrex or Lysine cause yeast? Can too much Lysine cause an outbreak? If 500 mg of Valtrex reduces transmission by 50%, then does 1 mg per day suppressive reduce it more? Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. I did see an urgent care doctor last night and verified that it was a herpes outbreak. He has prescribed me 1gram of Valtrex for 1 week. He seems to think the ache in my scrotum is most likely HSV related, and the ache doesn't seem as bad today since starting my Valtrex regiment, but I don't know if that is just in my head.
I also saw my normal doctor this morning to get a "second" opinion and to get put on suppression therapy as well.
