Valtrex and birth control pills

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex and birth control pills

valtrex

I was going through a divorce, was stressed at work, and stopped taking my birth control pills so assumed that the OB was due to a lot of stress and change in hormones. However, since then I've had an OB with every period. I recently went to the doctor and was prescribed Valtrex and only to take during an OB. I found that even with 1 pill the OB is gone but I was wondering why the frequency in OBs now after 10 years and going 10 years without any outbreaks.
It won't work if you don't take it. birth control pills have been found to cause more shedding of hsv2 than in gals who aren't on the pill. Taking daily suppressive therapy with valtrex negates that effect. pregnancy lowers your immune system as well as stresses your body. not unusual at all to have ob's when pregnant.
I at first assumed the itching was due to the herpes, and tried 3 times taking Valtrex and Acyclovir . None of the times have paused or even slowed down the herpes. Finally my current gynocologist said a few days it might just be a yeast infection, or some other light infection/STD. I am worried it is AIDS. is there any chance of it being aids? I have gotten tested for AIDS 6 monthes after I found out i was positive for herpes (2006).
But it's ovulation time, she missed two days of birth control pills, so she took both pills. This led to subsequent burning and itching. In my previous post, I cited how after 4 days of no birth control led to sex without burning. Now, Valtrex on board without apparent symptoms at time of initiating suppressive therapy and with negative igg results, we have burning/ itching with ovulation. Is this a side effect of the meds? No bc pills-> no burning. Makes one suspect some hormonal culprit.
When I first found out what I had, I did use Valtrex... although the more I read about these pills (not just Valtrex), and accepting how nothing can cure it (which I knew all along)... I just stopped taking it, and haven't in 7 years. At first I very rarely had outbreaks. The doctor said it would come back in the same place every time - and it has not, it has come back in different places. I am very careful and so is my fiancé (we've been together 3 years)...

I have been on birth control (ortho tricyclen lo) for the past 4 months, and I think that is what has caused the changed. The tiny fissures around my anus and the itching inside of my rectum and around the anus are still occuring everyday and are absolutely AWFUL!! I haven't gone to my doctor about this for months because he'll just keep trying to convince me that its due to chemical irritants...I know better! Anyone had any luck yet figuring something out?
About five days later I was able to consulted a doctor and he prescribed valtrex and performed a test for HSV-1 and HSV-2, I tested negative for both and my wife also tested negative for both. My symptoms did begin improve and my blisters were gone after about 10 days on the valtrex. We had sex again for the first time since this whole thing started and within hours the itchy sensation has returned. Neither my wife or myself have had any other sexual partners since we've been married.
I always get small yeast infections by my birth control pills (Errin) but now this is still swelling even more even after my doctor prescribed Diflucan yesterday. Do I need more time for the Rx to kick in? I can't even walk right now because the swelling is so bad or wear pants. Why wouldn't it be red if it was an infection? Did I damage something inside. Please help!
try birth control pills for 6 months to see if my periods would regulate, or have a hysterectomy. After everything I had gone through, I opted for the hysterectomy. In January of 2006, I had my uterus removed. I still have my ovaries, and my ob/gyn said that each month, I would experience the same symptoms as PMS, but I just wouldn't bleed because I don't have my uterus anymore. I moved to Michigan 6 years ago, only 2 months after my hysterectomy.
i went to the doc the next day and reported that my headache feels like my whole head is filled with fluid and i have shoulder and neck pain. she treated me for an atypical migraine and then gave me water pills for the blood pressure and gave me an order for an MRI which i will have tomorrow. i have a family history of aneurysms and my brother has a borderline chiari.
to give you something to compare it to, if you only used the pill for birth control, you are only 92% likely each year not to become pregnant.
Hello, may I ask are you female or male? If your female do you take Birth control, birth certain birth controls have been linked in monthly outbreaks do to the rise of cortisol although there is no proof but many cases. Here is a list of things that can also stimulate the nerve? 1. Stress (elevated cortisol is a byproduct) 2. Sun burns 3. Menstruation 4. Nuerectomy (surgical removal of a nerve) 5. Infection (lowered immune response) Hope this helps.
high fever self medicated with valtrex went away 2 months later she got it again also that month had irregular menstraul cycle and agin the following month, but did miss 2 doses of birth control pills that she doulbled up on. She had no fevers but night time sweats as well. Very tired all along the next month all was well except a possible sinus infection. I had two episodes of sore tip penis and lots of urges to urinate not major pain. We both took z packs and things seem ok so far..
I had a red area down there that was swollen so she blood tested me and I called yesterday to see if my results were back and she said I tested positive for Herpes type 2 . I have a blister at the tip of my vagina and I started the Valtrex last night and the burning and itching sensation has stopped , well not completely but its not as bad as it was . Yes I have a partner he knows I have it , but I know 100% I did not get it from him .
That's actually compareable to the same odds that a person would get pregnant while taking birth control pills..... Always a chance, but slim. Thats reassuring too. I think the social stigma of HSV is what makes it so scary...
Maybe its the dust as its an old house and I do have a dust allergy. It feels like my allergies have got out of control though, going from hayfever to being constant and severe at times. Im currently on steroids and antibiotics and they arent' giving me much relief. I have just ordered buffered vitamin C tablets and garlic oil capsules as a lady on the forum told me this helped her alot, as vitamin c is meant to be a natural antihistime.
Then regular check ups have to be scheduled and you put on low dose birth control pills to regularize her cycles first. Once this is corrected, regular ultrasounds will be done to assess the status of the ovum and accordingly drugs prescribed. At times laproscopy is done and cysts punctured. Hence consult your gynecologist for the best approach. In all probability if at all there was herpes, it must have been a very mild case. If there was rough sex, then that can also explain the cuts.
The routinely available oral medicines interfere with replication of the virus, but this treatment is designed to allow the immune system to respond more effectively to the virus and subsequently reduce the frequency of recurrences and reduce viral shedding. This phase 1 study is being conducted at several sites in the US. For more information contact Jessica Rowlands at Feinstein Kean Healthcare, 202-729-4089. I was wondering this am about my lining measurment and remembered I stopped my birth control pills (BCP) a week early because of a blood clot in the leg and it was still so much thinner then i expected and what i have seen from everyone else. I still have this cold and I really hope it goes away today my nose is raw and I have enough on my plate with work and ivf.
Not only because I have herpes but after I finally got a referal to a real gyno ( the clinic i was going to was horrible ) he left and the doctor they transfered me to decided to argue with me that I should be on birth control, so I didn't have any 'accidents' is what he said i wasn't in a relationship, wasn't having sex and on top of that I have never had any luck with birth control, I think i tried almost a dozen different types to find one that some what worked for me and still had break th
I started taking Valtrex 500mg everyday about a month ago (when I first contracted HSV-2), I am on birth control pills and have only had protected sex, but I have completely missed my period this month. This has never happened to me before, I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. Could it be from the Valtrex, the HSV or stress??? I have called my doctor 3 times already and still haven't had a return call, I'm worried. Thanks for all your help.
For women, paper cut lesions are most commonly caused by irritation, vaginitis or thining of the genital skin ( which can be caused by birth control pills, infections and menopause ). Since you've pretty much ruled out genital herpes as a potential cause of these symptoms, it's time to start ruling out other causes now. Hsv1 genitally tends not to reoccur very often for it to be a cause of your genital symptoms. Hope that info helps!
I was on birth control (Levora) during my initial outbreak. I was on Accutane too and that dried me out completely. I feel like I haven't really been the same since. I have not been on birth control for three years, so I am not much help there, but I know birth control pills can contribute to yeast infections. I do feel like I constantly have some yeast problems, especially right before my period. They aren't really bad, just enough to be annoying.
After ruling out the possibility of a UTI by numerous trips to get urinalysis done (all returning normal) and various attempts at treatment from antibiotics (to no avail), I began to think it might be a side effect of the Pill I was on. I switch BC pills and the symptoms continued. I was advised to stay with the pill and see if it would go away, or get off the pill and see if it would go away. I tried both, and neither helped.
Him taking suppressive therapy and using condoms means there's only a 2-3% chance of transmission annually. Pretty good odds! You have a better chance of getting pregnant using birth control pills (8% annually). If you haven't been tested (most STD screenings don't include herpes), get an IgG type specific blood test. Have you both checked out the "Herpes Handbook" on Westover Heights clinic?
i started taking my valtrex yesterday (2 pills for 3 days). this evening i got home from work and my genitals look horrible. one of my inner lips is SO swollen - pretty much doubled in size from the other. plus part of the lips, the part closest to my vaginal opening, feels kind of crusty. the space where before i saw the dark red area is still red..but there is some ***** looking stuff in the crease (looks like yellow discharge, just a little not a lot).
Liver enzymes were checked 10-14 days after Tylenol and Valtrex were stopped. Questions: (1) If all of my bloodwork and ultrasound have come back normal (except for the elevated enzymes), is a liver biopsy really necessary? (2) If a biopsy is necessary, what would one be checking for at this point? (3) Can a fatty liver be missed on an ultrasound? (4) Can excessive weight loss cause elevated enzymes?
I've treated it for a yeast infection, I've stopped taking birth control pills thinking this might stop these terrible symptoms as I've been told from day one these symptoms are totally non related to the herpes. No one seems to know what the heck is going on. I get mixed answers to my questions...it's herpes...it's non-related to my herpes....it's a yeast infection...it's BV...oh now its Group B Strep!!! To be honest I don't know what to think anymore!!!
In the last year I have had three yeast infections. I've experience many yeast infection due to hormone changes from birth control pills (since I was 19). My aunt has the same problem, but is STD free. Yaz birth controls seem to work the best and on them I have had only one episode(in the last 6months). I have myself examined anytime I feel funny down below. Each time I have been diagnosed with a yeast infection. My partner and I have recently been sexually active.
