Dear doctors, My mother is 50 years old suffering from hypertension, and she's on valsartan 160mg daily, she's overweight and was advised to exercise daily and dieting she's trying to but not losing weight at all. However, she's slightly gaining weight! I was looking on the side effects of valsartan and one of them was ( Significant weight gain) so is there any alternative to this medicine? N.B.
My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet. 1. Why should I agree to experiment with reducing my primary blood pressure medication and what are the risks?
I know Marfans is a connective tissue disorder but i have questions about my arota. So my dilation is mild, at around low-mid 40s mm large. I'm currently on 12.5 mg atenenol and 25 mg losartan/cozaar. Is it okay to take these drugs in high dosage together? Mainly because I've been doing some research on the web, and noticed how lost of people on this forum are reporting after taking a very high dosage of valsartan that there aorta shrunk quite a bit.
I have some sort of connective tissue problem (not Marfan, but perhaps MASS syndrome), and I began using ARBs (valsartan) a few years ago, when this research first debuted. I graduated to a maximal dose (320mg/valsartan/day) about a year and a half ago. I don't know if this is wishful thinking or what, but my myopic progression and aortic dilatation both seem to have completely stopped (and aortic dilatation actually appears to be reversing to normal size).
I have a dilated aortic root and ascending aorta, about 3.8cm and 3.4cm, respectively. I've been taking 40mg/day Diovan/valsartan recently in addition to beta blockers. I've heard about studies and reports that ARBs such as losartan and valsartan have proven effective in mice to treat aortic aneurysms in Marfan mice and to effectivel 'heal' them. 1.) So this is a general question - in your practice, have you seen beneficial results on human aortic aneurysms using ARBs? 2.
I am hypertensive for last 1 and a half year and using Amlodopine Besylate BP/USP 5 mg Valsartan USP 80 mg (added Aspirin enteric coated 150 mg and Atrovastatin 10 mg for last 5 monts being advised 5 months before after CT Angiogram).Result of my "Multi Slice CT Coronary Angiogram Report LM : Normal LAD: Minimal non calcified plaque but no stenosis.High origin of D1 with non calcified plaque at origin causing mild stenosis(less than 50%).Small narrow D2.
Which of the following medications that I am taking at once is used to reduce the systolic side of blood presure? 1 -Valsartan 40mg 2 - Atenolol 50mg 3 - Amlodipine Besylate 5mg These 3 medications are prescribe by my VA Clinic Doctor and my Systolic is running Between 140-150. Can a person stay on the lower side of the dose 25 - 50 mg's and still have them work in the prevention catagory? Any one out there taking either of these drugs for Elhers Danlos?
After investigations doctor prescribed three drugs. They are Valent-H, Concor2.5mg and Lotensil 10mg. How effectve these medicines are? She is taking it for 5years now. At times Valent H is not available in medical stores. Is there alternate medicine for this? Is there any long term side effects for these drugs? She got no heart problems. Why BP goes very high?

Now days I am unable to eat much as I feel full very quickly and walking is initially tiring though after a while this improves. I take tablets; Low plate plus 75mg, xplanded 20mg, Spiromide 40mg, Advant 16mg, Dilatant 25mg. Also I have shortness of breath everytime I think seriously about something. Is it ordinary asthma or cardiac asthma? I am feeling weak as because of not taking food properly because of cough. Please advise.
I'm already on multaq drug treatment but i take also bisoprolol 10mw twice daily and 80mg Valsartan for high blood pressure.I know that beta blockers increased multaq activity but this is my cardio recommendation.I also a litle bit worry about my creatinine (1,14) qt/qtc 452/452 ms. 3 months before the QT/QTc was444/ms....a litle longer QT interval .

Each time he's been in the hospital, the doctors suspected he had pneumonia, which now they think its just his lung disease. He has a pesistant cough. He now has a problem with low b/p. The doctors can't seem to keep it stable. Even sitting up in bed causes it to drop very low.
It's strange that Levothyroxine used to work for me until 3years ago when I started to take Bisoprolol-5mg in addition to Valsartan-160 mg for highBP
He was then put on clonidine and his blood pressure skyrocked to over 185/110 and rising and he went to the va emergency rm and they put him back on nifedipine 60mg the pressure was in the 150's over 90's however the swelling would not go down. He is now on valsartan 160mg and his readings are staying in the high 160's 170's + over 100 +. Could there possibly be some sort of blockage preventing the medication from doing its job or should they add a diuretic vlasartan hct?

I called my doc up and he prescribed me not Losartan but valsartan, which is a similar drug. He put me on a very light dose (80 mg/day), about half of what someone my body size would be taking in Dr. Dietz' study on adolescents this fall. Fast forward 6 months - I had my follow-up echo last Monday. Thank the Lord - no growth. All my numbers were "identical to last time," according to my cardio. That is unusual because my aorta had been growing up until then.
Hi, I am 20 and was diagnosed with pretty high hypertension (140~160/90~110) last year, of sudden onset. I am on Diovan 160mg (Valsartan) and Norvasc 5mg(Amlodipine), both once a day. BP is controlled most times of the day. Doctors initially thought I had thyrotoxicosis, as I had the symptoms and negative history for hypertension, and my BMI is 20.5. Tests showed normal levels of TSH, T4 and T3. My tremors of both hands, palpitations and sweaty palms are kinda getting more obvious.
Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum but i can't anything in the more general field of endocrinology. I was diagnosed with very high bp and tremor at the age of 19--bmi was about 21.5. Was given the full battery of tests (pheochromocytoma, cushings, conn's, thyroid, adrenal hyperplasia) but docs couldn't figure out why. They finally treated it as essential htn and essential tremor but said we'll keep an open mind.
The prescribing doctor WOULD NOT take me off it so I just stopped taking it and made an appointment with another doctor. I have been taking 12.5 mg of Metoprolol and 10 mg Amlodipine for about 3 months. I have COPD and something was aggravating my breathing problems. I went to the doctor yesterday and he took me off the Metoprolol and put me on 100 mg of Losartan. He told me to just stop taking the Metoprolol. I questioned starting off with such a high dose of Losartan.
Diovan (Valsartan) 160mg, and Norvasc (Amlodipine) 10mg...but my bp still rockets (I have a home kit) even when I just had a great night's sleep...Not on antidepressive or antianxiety pills... I used an ABPM machine, and even when asleep, my pressure was noted to be high... NOw when I take tests in school, my writing can become illegible...I mean, yes, Im nervous as expected, but throughout my school years, I've never trembled so much so I cant write properly. Thanks!
I am now on Norvasc (Amlodipine) 5mg OD, and Diovan (Valsartan) 160mg OD...Pressure pretty well controlled... Could my initial TSH, T4 and T3 levels be wrong ie a false negative? Or could my symptoms be because of something else or due to my medication? By the way, the doctor wants me to get tested for Porphyria... Please advise. Thanks for your time, Doc!
I have had an heart failure due to high chotesterol so I am on medication for Hipertension/ High Cholesterol. I recent weeks after I start using Co-Diovan 160/12.5 mg in place of Hyzar I am experiencing a gradual tightening in the upper chest toward the neck/throat and it is as if i may stop breathing? I am not sure if the change in medication has anything to do with it! I use to to exercise for about 30 min. or more each day, I can do only 2-3 mins. and with great difficulty?
Had been told on 2 most recent visits to Urgent Care for virus symptoms and then to quick check before cataract surgery by nurse that I had a heart murmur. I saw a cardiologist. He put me on 25MG Atenolol and after doing a Echo he added Diovan 80MG. My blood pressure has never run high--only put on Atenolol as my pulse rate on 1st check was 118. When I went for Echo a month later blood pressure was 125 over 85 and pulse rate was 58.
The drugs prescribed are Metropropolol succinate (Toprol) ER 25 mg. once per day, Atorvastatin 80 mg. once per day, and Diovan (Valsartan) 80 mg. once per day. Also 325 mg. aspirin. Patient suffered coronary arrest during the end of a stress test. 1 year ago. Patient had drove himself to Emergency due to chest and throat pain. Hello Doctor, I take 160mg of Diovan(Valsartan) daily, 25mg Atenolol, Navidrex (Cyclopenthiazide) 0.5mg daily for my BP (have been on medication since I was 29). 10mg Lipitor (atorvastation calcium) for cholesterol and 100mcg Thyroxine. I've also been prescribed 20mg omeprazole for acidity but find they don't help too much. I'm due to have a barium swallow tomorrow afternoon.
I am taking 7.5 mg Cardicor (Bisopropolol) and Co Diovan (Valsartan) and diuretic 80/120 plus being taken off Warfarin and put on low dose aspirin. Following foot surgery last week, my BP dropped to 50/90 and pulse to 37-40. I was sent home but passed out and was readmitted for another day. I was advised to stop medications for a day. During that day I had normal blood pressure and pulse and today also, although I have taken the medications.
ranges between 135/90 to 160/100 MMhg Blood sugar fasting 150-250MG PT 25.4 INR 2.
Usually for someone your son's size that means at least 100mg /losartan/day (or 80mg/telmisartan/day or 320mg/valsartan/day), but I defer to Dr. Dietz (he will probably say the same thing as me). After your son is on the meds, watch the aorta carefully to see what happens over the next few months. A 6-mo. checkup is vital (if not sooner) to see how the aorta is progressing - is it shrinking, stabilizing, or growing?
