Avatar n tn Are you aware about the combination Valsartan and Amlodipine to treat hypertension in high risk patients? How its is better than Telmisarton and Amlodipine combination?
Avatar m tn My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet. 1. Why should I agree to experiment with reducing my primary blood pressure medication and what are the risks?
Avatar f tn I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
Avatar n tn -( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril. Called the dr, he told me to stop the valsartan, don't take anything for 2 days and then back on the benazepril and see him next week.
Avatar m tn You should be aware that although millions of people use ARBs, some of these drugs have been linked to a slight increase in the risk of cancer, according to one study. The risk in the non-ARB-using population is 6.0%, while the risk in the ARB-using population is 7.5%.
Avatar n tn I've taken Valsartan since 2010 successfully. It controls my BP well.
Avatar n tn Could this be the problem of my high blood pressure. Recently I was put on Valsartan HCT and I feel awful. Tired spaced cold...
Avatar n tn I have some sort of connective tissue problem (not Marfan, but perhaps MASS syndrome), and I began using ARBs (valsartan) a few years ago, when this research first debuted. I graduated to a maximal dose (320mg/valsartan/day) about a year and a half ago. I don't know if this is wishful thinking or what, but my myopic progression and aortic dilatation both seem to have completely stopped (and aortic dilatation actually appears to be reversing to normal size).
Avatar m tn About me: I'm 32 years old, male and have had mild Vertigo symptoms for 9 months now. The symptoms of feeling like I just got off a boat are constant and happen 80% of the day, all day every day. I have never fallen over from it but it does greatly affect my quality of life. About my medical past: Had Bells Palsy in April 2014 on my left side of my face (MRI, CT, Xrays done to make sure it wasn't a stroke), cleared up by June/July 2014. Vertigo like symptoms started in August 2014..
Avatar n tn Blood pressure today-108 / 60. I do low impact exercises in the water, tai chi, and walking with in my mobility limits, and eat Heart Healthy. Don't drink or smoke, and limit caffeine tremendously. I will be going through another echogram soon to determine if the dilatation numbers have changed from 6 years ago. I am 53 and managed to NOT take any drugs dues to drug allergies in regards to the Elhers Danlos syndrome Type 3 hypermobility.
Avatar m tn HI, High blood pressure in lying down position is really difficult to explain. It can be because of stress, and due to lack of sleep (and not the cause of it). This may not be related to the menopause or to disturbance of hormones. You should check out with your physician to evaluate other causes of raised blood pressure. Also blood test for high cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels should be done. The answer is based on information provided.
Avatar n tn Why spend $100k+ and risk open-heart surgery and all the attendant risks when you can just drive to Walgreens or CVS and pop a pill everyday that will keep you off the operating table? That is why I stress that you need to educate yourself on this topic and find a cardiologist who knows about these studies and, if appropriate, is willing to prescribe these medications for you.
Avatar f tn Unless you have extensive family history of breast, colon, or ovarian cancer your risk for cancer is low. 95% of cysts are benign.
681148 tn?1437661591 My cousins are related through both sets of parents, so my risk is the same as theirs is of developing this rare form of breast cancer. They are more closely related than ordinary first cousins, since they are double first cousins. The symptoms I've had myself recently had me frightened. I'm glad I had the mammogram, so my anxiety level is greatly reduced now that I know nothing abnormal showed up in the test.
Avatar m tn She was tested 3 times and and all of the pap smears came back as low grade and tested negative for any high risk HPV strains. We had been married for a long time and the HPV must have come from a previous relationship, well over a decade ago. Unfortunately a subsequent/precautionary LEEP revealed Stage 1b1 cervical cancer and after a successful hysterectomy and radiation, my wife had a recurrence & metastasis and has since passed away.
Avatar m tn herpes is never linked to cervical cancer. Only HPV increases your wife risk of this cancer.
Avatar n tn Just as an FYI, there is an MD who is very very good at explanations on chemotherapy and answers quickly. He is located on the Expert Forum, under Ovarian Cancer and a subtitle of chemotherapy. His name is Kamal Saini, MD and at this moment, he is pictured to the right of this message under "Expert Activity. He would be one very good source of information from the chemotherapy standpoint. I wish you luck and God's blessings.
Avatar m tn Research also indicates oral contraceptives are associated with lowered risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer, as well as colorectal cancer. Women should discuss their family history of all cancers with their doctor when evaluating the risks and benefits of using birth control pills.
Avatar f tn When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer. Your mother may or may not have this gene variant but that doesn’t mean that you have it. And, if you do have it, the increased risk, in no way, means that you will get lung cancer, small cell or other, especially now that you have quit smoking. The role of lung cancer screening tests is still not clear.
Avatar m tn my wife and I had genital herpes for years, now I read that people with genital herpes are at a higher risk of having cervical cancer, is it true and is there anything we can do to lessen the risk. I really appreciate your answer, thank you!
Avatar f tn In other words, for any one person the risk of radiation-induced cancer is much smaller than the natural risk of cancer. If you combine the natural risk of a fatal cancer and the estimated risk from the 3mSv, the total risk may increase from 1000 chances in 5000 to 1001 chances in 5000. So, yes there is an increase risk, but the increase is very small. Hope this answer clears things up for you.
Avatar n tn Further, as far as the issue of cancer risk is concerned, please be aware that even those HPVs which are associated with increased risk for cancer rarely lead to cancer and that the vast majority resolve without any therapy at all. I would not worry about risk for oral cancer in relationship to your filiform wart. As for your specific questions, using the same order as used in your post: 1. See above.
