Avatar n tn So, you have, like a lot of people, herpes simplex 1. It IS contagious so be careful of that so you don't spread it to others. Don't pick the sores off. Take the medicine and if you feel a tingle like another cold sore is coming, use the valacyclovir. You may have angiokeratoma of Fordyce which normally goes away if left alone.
Avatar f tn It’s hard to keep herpes sores clean because they often leak the yellow gooey fluid. Who can help me to dry the sores out quickly.
Avatar m tn Even if it isnt, if I engage in oral sex with a woman (regardless if theses are cold sores or not), can I transfer herpes virus to her? My current partner has just been diagnosed with HSV-1 on her genitals and I fear that I am the culprit. She did have another partner a few months ago, but developed symptoms a few days after we engaged in oral sex. I plan to get tested as soon as possible, but was hoping for some info in the meantime. What else do I need to tell you?
Avatar f tn have been taking Valacyclovir 500mg once daily for this for 8 years now. Seems to help a little but not much. Also for the same time 9-10 years my bottom (ONLY) lip peels ALL the time. now let up. Not an allergy to makeup/lipstick/lip/balm. I stopped using and it did nothing to solve this. I worry mainly about the peeling lip as it hurts lot and looks awful and is an invitation for germs to get into my body through the open sorness. Any help out there or does anyone else have this?
Avatar n tn Your willingness to be treated (or to treat your GF) without knowing what your GF has is really not in your or her best interest). It sounds as though you are getting better since your treatment at the clinic. The approach I would suggest is as follows: 1. Your GF should go to the clinic where you received the shot. She should indicate that you have urethral discharge and that you were treated with a shot, azithromycin and metronidazole and that your test results are not back yet.
Avatar n tn Valtrex is valacyclovir which would be a very effective preventative medication to block herpes simplex 1 which is the most frequent cause of cold sores (aphthous ulcers) and sores around the mouth. It sounds like cold sores, and you could find our for sure by having the open sore cultured by your doctor. If it's not blocking forming these sores, it could be something else.
Avatar m tn Am hyper anxious, poor appetite and losing weight, having to use Ambien to get to sleep at night.Tortured.. Questions (1) Do you recommend a HSV PCR test? Need to truly know what I have here (2) Recommend suppressive therapy if + ve? (3) How to stop freaking out..?
Avatar n tn hi, i've recently had unprotected oral sex with a guy about 17 days ago. don't know his history as this was a one night stand. this didn't last long, maybe a few minutes, and he did not ejaculate. also, i was touching him prior to that. 2 days after i began to fell a burning sensation on the tip of my tongue, roof of my mouth and back of my throat. there are no visable sores. aday later felt weak and tired for the first part of the day.
Avatar m tn They drained it, but I was tested for STDs out of an abundance of caution. (I had NO IDEA I could get herpes from cold sores....until I started trying to figure out the lump on my vagina...).The very next day I noticed blistering and began having pain and tingling. When I got my blood test results they were negative for herpes 1 and 2 but positive for chlamydia? the results were 1.12 Is it possible that the blood tests picked up on the pneumonia?
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing all-over-body nerve tingling for about 10 months now, after a strangely over the top outbreak of cold sores (HSV1) on my chin, nose & upper lip - the nerve tingling happens: scalp, ears, eyelids, nose, temples, armpits, arms, hands, groin, knees, feet, all over the place. Normally, throughout my teenage years, I would just get a single cold sore on one lip, thought nothing of it, but this outbreak had multiple small spots, lasted longer, and they were quite painful.
Avatar f tn The second issue is easier to address. Valacyclovir is not known to have any effect on immunity to HSV. While there are some reports of people having particularly severe outbreaks after stopping long-term therapy, the research actually shows that this isn't any more common in people who have or have not been on suppressive treatment. In other words, there is no proved "rebound" effect after stopping long-term treatment.
Avatar f tn I don't think they are cold sores. I have tried valacyclovir pills, eczema cream, antibacterial ointments, proactive, petroleum jelly, blistex, fluticasone propionate cream and have iced it and there has been no difference. Someone please help!!!
Avatar n tn If your earlier tests were not positive, then I would stop the valacyclovir and wait to see if there is a recurrence. When there is, a test to make sure it is HSV and to know what type (HSV-1 or HSV-2), taken ASAP after the appearance of the lesion should help (type of virus is important- there is little need to take chronic valacyclovir if your lesions turn out to be HSV but are HSV-1. Suppressive therapy is of proven benefit only for persons with HSV-2).
Avatar m tn My doctor told me that even though I get cold sores on my lips, i can't give it to myself genitally, because the virus is already in my system, is this true?
Avatar m tn Similarly there are no studies of valacyclovir for prevention. Typically it takes more acyclovir to treat HSV-1 than HSV-2. Similarly there are no studies of persons taking drug to prevent acquisition. 5. There is no way to predict asymptomatic shedding, that's the reason it is called asymptomatic shedding. In discussions with others, we estimate the probability of being exposed and acquiring infection due to asymptomatic shedding as being in the neighborhood of a 1 in 10,000 chance.
Avatar m tn Also, I recently tested positive for HSV-1 with a numerical value of 21 from Labcorp Captia, never had cold sores and negative for HSV 2. Do you feel I should just move on? Does having HSV 1 protect me from HSV 2? Does flu like symptoms with no sores or blisters resemble HSV 2 infection? Does her meds help reduce the chance of spreading the infection? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Hello yes stress can cause the increase in bodily juices including those in the mouth causing cold sores. Cold sores can also show up immediately prior to a person getting sick with virus. Immune system issues, excessive sunlight, menstruation and pregnancy can also cause them. If you have had these that many years you might want to make your doctor aware because it could possibly be oral herpes that you are having outbreaks of several times yearly.
Avatar m tn About 14 days ago i went to the doctor to check out some bumps on my lower back and lower right thigh. He said it was the herpes virus but did not clarify which type it was (1 or 2 or zoster). The bumps on my back were itchy and the ones on my thigh were sore. I have been in a relationship with a girl for the past year and several months and we have unprotected sex several times and i have never experienced any symptoms before. She has been my only sexual partner.
Avatar m tn An ophthalmologist who confirmed blepheritis but didn’t think it was anything to worry about. When it started to involve my sclera I put myself on valacyclovir 1g BID and I’ve been on that for nearly 2 months. Sometimes the eyes flare up and I take more. I tried stopping the valacyclovir last week and after 2 days everything started flaring up. I haven’t had sex since the exposure but I have kissed my wife (I told her everything).
