Valacyclovir generic name

Common Questions and Answers about Valacyclovir generic name

valtrex

Avatar n tn Generic valacyclovir and brand name Valtrex are not the exact same formula. The generic is not nealry as effective. I took the brand name valtrex by GlaxoSmithKline for 9 yrs with ZERO outbreaks. My insurance changed last year and they will no longer pay for the brand name. In the 9 months I've been taking the same dose of the generic valacyclovir, I've had several outbreaks. I've tried 3 different generic manufacturers without success.
Avatar n tn generic medications have the same active ingredients in as the name brand does. They may contain different inactive ingredients though like colours and binders and such. They go thru testing to prove that they are just as effective. Canada is the only country besides india that is offering generic valtrex at this time hence why I asked.
Avatar m tn Valtrex is the dominant brand name, valacylcovir the generic name. Do not take both; it would be an overdose. (Probably not harmful, but not recommended.) You get maximum effectiveness against oral herpes with the 2 g (2000 mg) dose taken twice a day apart; higher, more frequent, or more prolonged treatment will make no difference. 2) You are typical in not having an identifed trigger of your outbreaks. Most people cannot pinpoint particular events.
Avatar f tn It is March 2014 and I am again taking 1000mg 3x per day generic Valacyclovir for 7 days and the redness and spots on my chin are only somewhat better than they have been but they are still there and never completely went away. It seems that the generic Valacyclovir is not doing its full job and am wondering if Valtrex name brand should be my next option or if there might be something else going on?
Avatar m tn from Europe, I cannot believe how expensive Valtrex is here in the U.S.! I just want to get confirmation that there is a Generic Valtrex that is NOT Acyclovir - it that correct? My online pharmacy is offering me Valcyclovir which is a lot cheaper than Valtrex but I just want to make sure it isn't Acyclovir before I purchase it. Thank you in advance for your help!
Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar n tn Do report back to your doctor that the prescription is not helping, and that you may need to (a) double your dose, (b) try the brand name itself (Valtrex, rather than the generic valacyclovir) or (c) try an entirely different antiviral. Acyclovir works best for me and for many others, for example. I hope you find relief soon. There may be over-the-counter topicals that will help with the discomfort. I've heard that folks sometimes use the oral herpes ointments with success.
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
Avatar m tn Today I decided to stop taking my daily suppressant of generic valacyclovir ( I was taking two 500 mg a day 12 hours apart) and my genitalia and scrotum sensitivity/discomfort/burning came back. When I pull on my scrotum through my boxers it starts to burn all over. The last two weeks I was taking the generic I had a stiff neck and slight headache most of the day. Today I only had a very small faint feeling of stiffness in my neck.
Avatar m tn t know whether generic valacyclovir is yet available. If so, it might not make much difference in price. The earliest generics often are priced only a little lower than the branded product.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure that I understand your response. 1. I think that you meant to say that "experience tells us that when people ?quit? taking the valacyclovir, they sometimes do have an outbreak soon after that." This is my concern, that the valacyclovir takes over and that the body's immune response is less engaged in fighting the infection. Do you see what I mean? 2.
Avatar m tn It seems that the generic Valacyclovir is not doing its full job and am wondering if Valtrex name brand should be my next option or if there might be something else going on? I have read that often the generic brand has a much lesser efficacy than the name brand, which is understandable. I am very concerned as I seem to not be able to get rid of this from my skin.
Avatar m tn Do you use protection? Because that would explain why he doesn't have type 2.
Avatar m tn hey my new gf who i strarted dating recently told me she has herpes/genital and shes on Valacyclovir and shes been on this for one month,we had unprotected sex once this was before she told me!the night consisted of drinking, sex wasnt long maby 5 minutes and i do remember ejaculating in her..sex wasnt rough just a get it in n be done type deal,i was tired! i read that my chances of getting this are very high since she was recently infected with this virus.
Avatar m tn It used to be quite expensive, but it went off patent a year or so ago and the price is dropping. Tell the doctor and/or pharmacist you want a generic and not Valtrex, the trade name. The usual dose for suppressive treatment in people with infrequent outbreaks is 500 mg once daily, but the 1 gram (1000 mg) tablet is not double the price -- so you can save still more by asking for the 1 g tablets and breaking them in half. (This is good advice for many expensive drugs.
Avatar f tn what is a generic drug?
Avatar n tn 0 down to 0.
Avatar f tn I have simplex one and I've been on the generic for Valtrex for probably a year now. My symptoms have of course completely cleared up although I was getting OB's about every 2 to 3 weeks. I also take 1000mg of lysine daily. I try to stay away from the things that I know trigger OB's for me. However I want to get off of the med's because I don't want to become dependent on them. But i'm worried that ill get constant OB's like I used to get. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Yes it's totally legal. If you want more information there's a guy on the internet who outlines the process, whether you travel abroad or order online. He actually wrote a book and started a blog on it. He also started a buyer's club but no need to go that route. His name is Greg Jefferys, google his name for more information.
