Valtrex and valacyclovir are the same medication. valtrex is not available as a generic in the US at this time. I believe it is available as a generic in canada and india. If you are in the US, go with acyclovir instead if cost is an issue.
They cover the outer half of both lips, top and bottom). I've tried acyclovir and generic valtrex, with no relief. Not even a two hour break. Still taking generic valtrex (1 gram twice a day). I am taking Thompson's lip relief (lysine, vit c, zinc, bioflavanoids) and an immune support (andrographis, olive leaf, echinacea), and have been for a few weeks. I apply Super Lysine and lemon balm cream. I cut out caffeine (ouch!
Hello again Doctor. I just got off the phone with my primary care doctor's triage nurse. They have approved the Valacyclovir prescription for me, however my doctor prescribed the 1000 mg as opposed to the 500 mg pills I asked for. He says I should take 1000 mg per day instead of the 500 mg you recommended, but I trust your expertise on this much more. I suppose I will just have to purchase the 1000 mg and break them in half.
I am a 23 yr old gay white male in the south. I just found Valacyclovir in my boyfriend's dresser drawer while cleaning. We have been together for 6 months. Looks like he has been on it since at least 2012. Although I feel snoopy I plan on consulting him about this.
Acyclovir is available generically and is quite affordable and within the year it is likely that generic (and thus lower cost) valacyclovir will be available as well. Hope this helps. Good luck.
After I got the test results I spoke to my doctor again and got a prescription for generic Acyclovir pills. I have already taken all of them, and while the blisters have healed, there is still a lot of redness and some soreness in the area of the initial infection. Questions: 1. How long do initial HSV-1 infections in the genitals usually last? Should I be worried that my symptoms have not gone away yet? Should I get another prescription for anti-viral medication? 2.
and oral herpes usually isn't associated with the psychological/social stress of genital, so people's thresholds for effectiveness, cost, and convenience are different. But it works just fine--although the dose for effective suppression is higher than for genital HSV-2. I can't solve the problem of expensive drugs. But is it really all that big a deal? You probably could get effective suppression for under $1.00 per day, probably less (e.g., generic acyclovir).
Patients with a limited (less than or equal to 7 day) course of acyclovir or valacyclovir for herpes more than 1 month prior to first dose of study drug are not excluded.
the idiot Dr. at the women's clinic told me NOT to use it but recommended the Valtrex. Valtrex cost me $160 and was ineffective. I buy the hydrogen peroxide at Wal-Mart for $1.28/bottle. 3. For lips, use the hydrogen peroxide AND caramex (in the tin and apply it w/ a q-tip) For whatever reason, this is the combo that made them go into remission. The caramex turns white for a little while when it mixes with the hydrogen peroxide. It absorbs into your lips within 20 minutes or so.
