Even if it isnt, if I engage in oral sex with a woman (regardless if theses are cold sores or not), can I transfer herpes virus to her? My current partner has just been diagnosed with HSV-1 on her genitals and I fear that I am the culprit. She did have another partner a few months ago, but developed symptoms a few days after we engaged in oral sex. I plan to get tested as soon as possible, but was hoping for some info in the meantime. What else do I need to tell you?
Valtrex is valacyclovir which would be a very effective preventative medication to block herpes simplex 1 which is the most frequent cause of cold sores (aphthous ulcers) and sores around the mouth. It sounds like cold sores, and you could find our for sure by having the open sore cultured by your doctor. If it's not blocking forming these sores, it could be something else.
I started getting sores on my tongue after i get a cold sore, which I have always had, about 5 months ago and these sores on my tongue have been constant since than. The start as a small dot that develops a white ring and the white ring spreads outward and the sore gets bigger with a shallow red sore inside it. I have been experiencing all-over-body nerve tingling for about 10 months now, after a strangely over the top outbreak of cold sores (HSV1) on my chin, nose & upper lip - the nerve tingling happens: scalp, ears, eyelids, nose, temples, armpits, arms, hands, groin, knees, feet, all over the place. I don't think they are cold sores. I have tried valacyclovir pills, eczema cream, antibacterial ointments, proactive, petroleum jelly, blistex, fluticasone propionate cream and have iced it and there has been no difference. Someone please help!!!

Many women have oral cold sores, thus HSV1, and hence will often experience less severe symptoms if they become infected genitally and this will usually be with HSV2. A common explanation here is that you have received oral sex from a partner in the 2-10 days leading into the first symptoms appearing.

Also, I recently tested positive for HSV-1 with a numerical value of 21 from Labcorp Captia, never had cold sores and negative for HSV 2. Do you feel I should just move on? Does having HSV 1 protect me from HSV 2? Does flu like symptoms with no sores or blisters resemble HSV 2 infection? Does her meds help reduce the chance of spreading the infection? Thanks in advance.
About 14 days ago i went to the doctor to check out some bumps on my lower back and lower right thigh. He said it was the herpes virus but did not clarify which type it was (1 or 2 or zoster). The bumps on my back were itchy and the ones on my thigh were sore. I have been in a relationship with a girl for the past year and several months and we have unprotected sex several times and i have never experienced any symptoms before. She has been my only sexual partner.
Full STD screens 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exposure came up positive only for HPV 1. I’ve never had cold sores. Around June the HPV spread to my mouth and nose. In July it spread to involve my scalp and I got blepheritis and conjunctivitis in both eyes. An ophthalmologist who confirmed blepheritis but didn’t think it was anything to worry about. When it started to involve my sclera I put myself on valacyclovir 1g BID and I’ve been on that for nearly 2 months.
I have been on valtrex for suppression of hsv 2 for 16yrs and continue to have outbreaks almost monthly. Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it.
Partner stated no known history of cold sores, BUT she had a scab on her lip that night that she stated was the result of trauma to her lip several days before; no way to know the truth at this point.
My groin area pain has been present for about 5 days with the worst pain occurring today. Hence my posting to you. What is the time period from ache and pain to blister break out??
I have not had any re-infection risks (monogamy for 22 years) but I have had a few episodes of facial shingles (the first OB was at the age of 12) and regular cold sores (easily treated with Zovirax). Is it possible that I may have both HSV 1 and 2, and if so, could this account for severity? And which test do you recommend?

Refrain from touching the sores and spreading the virus to new sites, such as the eyes and genitals. It is also important to wash hands after eating or touching the lesion. Ice applied directly to the cold sore site prior to the eruption of a blister may reduce the potential swelling. Any drying over-the-counter cold sore preparation that contains camphor and/or phenol may provide relief if applied in the early stages.
