After having had a hysteroscopy which found 'no serious problems', but did show some Atrophy, I've been prescribed Vagifem 25mcg pessaries. I've started using them but was concerned to find on reading the patient leaflet that these are HRT and I'm wary about the risks. I'm 61 and have been post-menopause (with no menopausal problems) for several years.
A year before that, I had been having terrible hot-flashes, and asked my Primary Care Physician about HRT, and she had also been strictly against it. She said that HRT was hard on the liver, but what she did was prescribe a cream called Estrace for me (estradiol vaginal cream)
This cream is inserted in, and helps with vaginal dryness, atrophy, and I thought it helped with the hot-flashes also, and boosted my sex-drive.
The association between HRT and BC was scientifically established in 2002.

I am sorry you are suffering! I totally understand as I was in your shoes except that I didn't have endo. It sounds like your doctor didn't have much of a discussion with you about HRT before your surgery. Unfortunately, that isn't unusual. The patches you were on as well as Premarin are all estrogen. The patches are bio-identical but Premarin is not. And yes, estrogen can stimulate any remaining endo.
When Vagifem or Estrace is prescribed for a post menopausal woman with a uterus, should a progestin always be prescribed as well? I've been taking Vagifem for 2 years without a progestin, and now I have to undergo an endometrial biopsy because of some buildup of the lining of my uterus (I have no bleeding....it showed up on an TV ultrasound...small changes and endometrial thickness of 5mm).
I have recently been started on Vagifem and in the last 3 days have had copiou amounts of greenish watery vaginal discharge. Should I be concerned it is very annoying.
I have been prescribed 2x daily Vagifem tablets as part of a fertility treatment with Clomid. I have been told that should I fall pregnant I would have to continue this treatment for 6 further weeks (~8 weeks treatment with Vagifem in total).
Im thinking you need a combo hrt ..no estrogene at all? your adernal gland should be trickling a bit of that but most comes from ovaries which no longer exist.
see a new obgyn or theres a farily new help called Nurse practioner specilising in menopause and hrt...since thats all they do they really know there stuff,
rapid heart rate only when on meds? if it happens other times Id advise a cardiologist,. would not hurt to see one anyways for a simple ekg.
HI, I'm 27, my gynecologist put me on vagifem for vaginal dryness. My period is now a week late which is very unusual for my cycle. My boobs are achy but not sore to touch. Could my period be late and sore boobs because of vagifem??
m 34 and after a recent visit to a gyno she prescribed me vagifem suppositories and betnovate cream. I am not menopausol or anything. I've just had gyno issues in past few months of a burning sensation inside my vagina and sometimes outside too. It is very uncomfortable at times. She prescribed me vagifem and betnovate to use for 3 months consistently before I go back to her. I'm worried after reading on internet about cancer being linked to it and so on.
I'm a 59 year old post menopausal woman who recently had my 4th follow-up transvaginal ultrasound because of a small ovarian cyst. The cyst is still there (but quite small), however, my latest ultrasound has caused my doctor to schedule an endometrial biopsy for me. Here are the findings: "The endometrium measures 5mm in thickness. Tiny cystic changes are noted involving the endometrium. This finding was not seen on previous examinations.
Has anyone anything good to say about Vagifem [Estradiol hemihydrate]. I have used it for only a week and have had bad headaches, plus terrible pains in my womb. Also pins and needles down my left arm, and even my teeth are feeling very sensitive. I can't believe this is doing me any good. All replies will be welcome.
The doctor now thinks it is vaginal atrophy, and I have been given vagifem tablets. Every day for 2 weeks, followed by twice a week. I still have the vaginal discharge , except it is no longer yellowish green, it is white or clear or slightly yellowish.
Here's my question.. Has any one else had this symptom from vaginal atrophy? What works to make this go away?
Has anyone else suffered the dreaded Vaginal Atrophy. Have been prescribed Vagifem which is helping a little. Main problem for me is burning after urination. Don't like using the prescribed betnovate cream too often as this burns. Now trying the yes products. Some days I seem much better and then the next day it returns with avengeance. Sitting at School working with children is not ideal and aggravates it even more.
I am sorry for your ovarian cancer diagnosis. I hope you have a good prognosis with this recurrence. If you have ovarian cancer, you probably don't have a choice of keeping your ovaries.
To be honest, living without them (for 8 years) has been very difficult and would probably be worse without HRT. But I miss my uterus just as much.
What I want to know is how long before the surgery should we use the estrogen (I have both vagifem and estrace cream)? I had a hysterectomy, total and done vaginally, in Oct 2009, then bladder fell 2 months after, had the cystocele repaired and then around 6 weeks later the rectum and top of vaginal vault fell. I have had a pessary in for around a year to hold it but it is getting so hard to have a BM. I want this rectocele repair to be the last surgery!
I was without estrogen for some time in this year, and then I used local estrogen (Vagifem) and Vaginal balans. My vagina and vaginal atrium and urethra are in poor condition. I have also had osteopenia previously. And I have hypercalcemia, I should not use calcium pills.
Could it be possible that I have cystitis or vaginitis? I hardly have any discharge from vagina. I had my first bacterial vaginitis in January this year. I had abnormal bleeding before it.
i had a total hystrectomy in 1995 and quit hormones 8 yeasr ago its been rough,back in july dr stated me on menest but then i went to another dr and she did blood hormones and as of 2 weeks ago i was put on estradiol 1 mg was already on vagifem she just added 0.25 mg of divigel 3 days ago and now my breats are so sore and bad headache..
Your tissues are so dry that they cut and bleed with any friction. Luckily, there is a remedy. A vaginal estrogen pill (Vagifem) or cream (Premarin) can be inserted into the vagina on a regular basis and it will help rebuild the tissue and prevent this type of dryness. I personally prefer Vagifem because it is less messy and each comes in its own applicator. You will still need to use something like Astroglide duirng intercourse to have even better results.
Hello again, I forgot to ask this in my prior post regarding Vagifem. I exercise a few days a week with weights...is it okay to continue lifting weights now that I know I have a cyst on my ovary or could I be risking having it rupture? Is cardio okay to do? Thank you all.
Sorry I am too new at the hrt thing myself. I have just been relying on my doctor to tell me what is best for me.
My oncologist has made it very clear that I am not a canidate for HRT even though I have had a bilateral mastectomy and the cancer I had was not hormone dependent. They only thing she may consider is an estrogen ring which only releases a small amount of estrogen which absorbs locally. Very little is actually released into the bloodstream. This would only be used if other non-hormonal lubricants did not work. This will not do much for other menopausal symptoms.
I stopped HRT in late Nov. after 12 years (I was on a very low dose) and am now struggling with sleep. I can fall asleep just fine but wake up every 45 min- 1 hour all night long. Even sleeping pills like Lunesta and Halcion don't get me through the whole night, I am awake by 2 or 3 am and then off and on for the rest of the night. I did not have any problems with sleep while on HRT but each time I've tried to go off, I have trouble with sleep.
I would do alot of research - there are some good message boards on HRT and what is available. Bioidenticals are identical to what your body would be making and that's what I'm on now and anxiety is gone, no more heart palps, and no more off and on hot flashes - which I rarely got but I sometimes did. Please don't go estrogen dominant. American Dr.'s are so far behind the times when it comes to our hormones.
