I went to the bathroom to spit the 'mucus' out, only to painfully discover that the 'mucus' was actually my swollen, bleeding uvula. Only the uvula is swollen, and it doesn't hurt, but gets in the way of breathing and swalling, so I'm afraid to go back to sleep. My question is- why is my uvula swollen and how long until it returns to normal?
I have a lump on my uvula and a swollen right tonsil which neither are sore. For the past few weeks i have had a slight sore throat on and off.
Any inflammation in the mouth can cause swelling of the uvula. But as the inflammation subsides, the swelling will resolve. So, you can wait and see if it resolves on its own. Also, anti-inflammatory medications may help. If it persists and is troublesome, as your doctor mentioned, the therapy is surgical correction. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I have read so many forums on home remedies most say wait it out, until I had the uvula swell I was fine with that. Most of the forums that talk about the uvula swelling contribute it to drinking alcholol, but I dont drink. They also say see a DR. if it lasts more than 2 days, but reply that the DR. just gave them prednisone which I can get. Please someone help, Going crazy worring about it all..
I had an endoscopy done on Friday and my uvula was really swollen Friday night and Saturday morning. It was purple. It is now Sunday and it is still really swollen, but not nearly as bad as it was. It is no longer purple, but has turned white. I have gargled with salt water today. Any other suggestions for bringing the swelling down and why it is white?
To give a quick background I am 21 years old, quit smoking cigarettes a few days ago after about 2 1/2 years of a pack a day, quit smoking marijuana 3 weeks ago after about 2 years of smoking every day, and my girlfriend who I have been sexually active with for years was treated for genital warts over the summer due to HPV 16. My tonsils and uvula have been swollen since August and in early October I ended up in the emergency room because my neck began to swell up.
I had my tonsils removed over 2 weeks ago and well my uvula is still swollen and I am not able to eat much. I wish I can fast forward 2 months in the future to get the swelling down. I so understand your position though. What I have heard from others is that it can take months for the uvula to get back into proper psition. Hang in there. All the best. If you are still uncertain then maybe see the ENT who did the surgery to explain things.
I'm in my senior year and every single day counts and I'm stuck at home with a swollen uvula. Do I have strep? My uvula is 5 times larger than what is usually is. I've been drinking fluids the entire weekend. I have drank two 3 gallon jugs of water and it never helped. I don't know what else to do.

They are normally white, except for the one at the back of my tongue which seems to hold no color at all. Yet all of them hurt while swallowing. I also have swelling around my front teeth in the back, kinda of half circle shaped towards the tooth along with swollen glands and 2 or 3 white spots on the back of my uvula. Any ideas to what this could be and if it's serious, needs to have quick medical attention or should I rush to the hospital considering its the labor day weekend.
The doctor that diagnosed me was very concerned about the size of my tonsils, he told me that my uvula was deviated and he was worried about them but since he was from a low cost clinic he knew I couldnt afford to go the ER. So, treated me with strep and the swelling went way down. Every since then, I go through days where I still have trouble with the swelling coming back. The problem is that when I search for symptoms everywhere says that sore throat goes along with that symptom.
I have lost over 17 pounds ( ok not such a bad thing, but not for a good reason), my back of my throat is swollen as well as my voice box, which are swollen quite badly. I cough to the extreme as to try and clear my throat.. to the point where I vomit, and my head feels like it is going to explode. I have had a Upper GI done and it came back no problems.. I think they need to do more tests and I am going to make sure they do................Oh and with this..

After 5 days of treatment my tonsils and uvula are severely swollen with a some white specs on the tonsils. The pain has intensified on my right side. I can see the right side has a reddish swelling that starts from the puffy gum and proceeds up along the wall of my mouth near the back and appears to be pushing on my right tonsil. I also noticed it stems up towards the roof of my mouth a little. It hurts when touched and feels softer than the other side of my mouth.
I am also having problems with my throat and have lumps on my uvula as well as pain further back and feeling of having a swollen tongue. I was wondering if anyone ever got a definate diagnosis? I too suffer from anxiety which I am doing something about and am four weeks into CBT to tackle my health anxiety problem. Ive got myself convinced that Ive got the start of throat cancer and the ongoing lumpy feeling when I swallow doesnt help to alleviate my fears.
My symptoms are feeling of chocking throat, red color line on the hanging bit inside the mouth (uvula), chest pain not severe but persisting for last 4 weeks (gradually increased). Usually goes away in the morning after I wake up, get worse during the day but if i relax it slows down although still there. Throat swelling remains. Hello and hope you are doing well. The uvula can get swollen from throat infections or sometimes due to local trauma, like chemicals or hot food. As for throat infections, the commonest pathogen (agent) causing throat infections is a group A Streptococcus bacteria. Besides this Group B Streptococcus, mycoplasma, neisseria and cornybacterium are known to cause throat infections. Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida).
For the third time this year, my nose is swollen almost completely shut with no mucous at all, my ear is plugged and ringing, and it feels as though my uvula is being pushed downward towards my windpipe. I've been waiting three months to get into the specialist and still haven't received a call. Any ideas? I was on the prescription Reactine and Flonaise, but for some reason the ear and nasal swelling occurred anyway.
I had unprotected sex with a girl of unknown sexual history three months ago, and now I have a very swollen neck lymph node ONLY on the right side. It has been swollen like that for those three months with no cold or flu symptoms. The salivary duct in my right cheek by the upper molars is inflamed. My uvula has undergone changes as well, feeling largely hollow but with a small spherical bump in the very end of it.
I really do think that the stress and alcohol combined was the cause of these swollen glands. But this does not mean that your lymph nodes are swelling for the same reason. The most common reason for lymph nodes to swell is fighting off infection, so it could be that you drank too much and the alcohol compromised your immune system, causing your lymph nodes to swell in order to fight something off...to play it safe, see your doc. P.S. I am not a medical professional!
I feel wimpy asking but, my throat has been beet red and sore for a couple days. Tonight it is swollen on the outside in which makes it hard to swallow. This has happened alot in the past and I was told not to worry about it that it was just my lymph nodes unless it made it hard to breath not to worry about it. I've been tested for strep many times and that's not it. My question is my thyroid test were supposed to be tomorrow morning.
Apart from uvula infections, severe allergic reactions from certain medications or allergens also contribute to the swelling. A swollen uvula is also the outcome of acid reflux or tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils, especially the palatine tonsils). Consuming extremely hot food or liquid may burn the uvula and cause swelling. Alcohol abuse, mouth ulcers or a canker sore anywhere near the uvula, may also be included among the many swollen uvula causes.
It has been two weeks since the symptoms started and the pain is now gone but the swelling is still going on back there in the left of the roof of my mouth, still a little tender to touch and now my uvula is swollen and it feels like I have something constantly stuck in my throat. I doubt we will work out what it is before it goes away but I just wanted to let you know that if I find out anything I will let you know, as it seems we are both suffering with the same thing.
Pain remained and started spreading through my entire face up to hairline down to jawbone including left ear and throat. Throat and neck on right side is swollen, throat is so swollen, uvula is swollen and pushed over to left side of throat. Pain in face is almost unbearable. Called doctor who called in a prescription for erythromycin (Z-Pac). I have now taken 2 days worth. Pain is now more bearable, but is still in entire face. Throat and neck swelling has not gone down.
