Uterine contractions during labor

Common Questions and Answers about Uterine contractions during labor

contractions

Avatar f tn Oxytocin (the hormone that makes you orgasm) is responsible for contractions when you go into labor. Practice contractions post orgasm are totally normal although not always comfortable! Drink some water and lay down for a while to relax them away.
Avatar n tn You should be okay to masturbate and have sex all the way up until your water breaks, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Yes, orgasms do cause uterine contractions, but unless your body and baby are ready they won't be strong enough to start labor.
Avatar f tn t play around with this. If it is per labor they should be able to give you something to stop the contractions. Good luck and I hope it truly turns out to be nothing.
Avatar f tn Some women describe contractions as strong menstrual cramps. Unlike false labor contractions or Braxton Hicks contractions, true labor contractions do not stop when you change your position or relax. Although the contractions may be uncomfortable, you will be able to relax in between contractions. What's the Difference Between True Labor and False Labor? Before "true" labor begins, you may have "false" labor pains, also known as Braxton Hicks contractions.
Avatar f tn ll kinda make your breathing feel slightly different. To differentiate between braxton Hicks contractions and real labor contractions you need to pay attention to your stomach getting hard and if it's accompanied by pain. You'd feel it get tight. It's hard to miss. You also need to time them. Write down what time they happen and for how many seconds or minutes.that way you can tell how far apart they are and how long you're having a contraction.
Avatar f tn They often start by feeling like just that a tightening. The abdomen will feel firm and tight. Contractions related to true labor will become regular and increase in intensity as labor progresses.
Avatar f tn She will not induce me, as pitocin causes too intense contractions and could raise my chance of uterine rupture. She has not given me much advice, she doesn't stick around during appointments. I would really like to avoid another c-section. I have been walking daily for the past 2 weeks, about 2 miles, tried sex, pineapple, spicy food, more sex, bouncing on ball, and squats. Been having contractions the past 4 days, nothing consistent though.
552173 tn?1282603290 If these contractions become regular or more frequent (one every 10-12 minutes for at least an hour) they may be premature labor contractions which can cause the cervix to open. It is important to contact your gynaec immediately. If you suspect you are having signs and symptoms of premature labor; empty your bladder, Lie down tilted towards your left side and avoid lying flat on your back as this may cause the contractions to increase.

1129232 tn?1360800358 Large amounts of pineapple juice can in fact cause uterine contractions. It’s for this reason that in early pregnancy, it’s often suggested that you don’t drink pineapple juice in excess amounts. Why pineapple can cause contractions Fresh pineapple contains Bromelain which can also soften the cervix but it is said that it takes large quantities to have any effect which can also result in diarrhea.
7110901 tn?1396057291 In the end it will help because semen softens the cervix which makes dilating easier and sex can start labor if your body is ready.
Avatar f tn Honestly, I think it comes down to relaxing. When I couldn't dilate during labor it was because I couldn't relax between contractions. Once I did relax, boom! I dilated. Sex will help relax you besides the benefits that the sperm can do to soften you. Try getting a pedicure. Do something that relaxes you. It's worth a shot!!
Avatar f tn I did castor oil at 38 weeks when i was in early labor. It is true, it does stimulate uterine contractions, BUT!!.., it won't dilated you.. I had extreme contractions..less than two minutes apart and was in labor, but I wasn't dilating.... so the docs sent me home in excruciating pain and j just went right back, they ended up giving me morphine to help me relax and dilate. I did try it and I wouldn't recommend it because it very well may just cause more complications...good luck..
5426152 tn?1382129604 Fresh pineapple can cause uterine contractions but like she said you have to eat a lot of fresh pineapple for that and it is because of the bromlein in it . Its okay .
Avatar f tn A normal pregnancy should last about 40 weeks. Occasionally, labor may begin prematurely before the 37th week of pregnancy because uterine contractions cause the cervix to open earlier than normal. When this happens, the baby is born premature and can be at risk for health problems. Fortunately, due to research, technology and medicine, the health of premature babies is improving. What risk factors place me at a high risk for premature labor?
Avatar n tn Castor oil is a laxative that causes intestinal contractions. It can stimulate uterine contractions. However, it does not cause labor. It had been known to progress a labor that had already started, but it does nothing if your body is not ready. It has also been known to cause extreme dehydration and make you down right miserable.
Avatar f tn Could i be in early labor and is it possible to be in early labor before active labor for weeks?
1640871 tn?1321673746 It's definitely fine up until I think your third trimester...at that point, it causes uterine contractions and could cause preterm labor. Even then, I think that would only be if you mbated 100x's a day!
Avatar f tn Or if you had preterm labor contractions what they felt like? My.first I was induced at 41wks and my.last.pregnancy I had a section @ 35 weeks. so I'm nervous I won't know what labor feels like....
Avatar f tn Nipple stimulation releases oxytocin, which cause uterine contractions. It's also one of the reasons breastfeeding is recommended asap after birth - to help you deliver your placenta and make your uterus shrink back to normal. So yes, it can start labor. I had a friend lay on her couch and play with her nipples to get her labor started. She said it took about two hours. But depending how ready your body is, it could be shorter or not at all.
1596202 tn?1297306958 True contractions are not relieved but an 8oz glass of water, resting on your left side for an hour and wake you when you are sleeping. True contractions cause you to make cervical change. I don't know how far along you are. They can feel like a squeezing and then release, can feel like back pain that comes and goes. Regardless, try 8oz glass of water, resting on left side (for good blood flow to baby) and then if it doesn't resolve call your OBGYN office.
285896 tn?1237211227 ***4) Red rasberry- promotes easier labor by strengthening the muscle of the uterus and enhancing the force of contractions thus quickening childbirth. Promotes expulsion of the placenta and decreases postpartum bleeding. 5) Squawvine- helps relieve labor pains, nervous exhaustion, and irritability. Also believed to increase breast-milk production. *** The best qualities!
Avatar n tn The one that seems more likely to work than others is by having sex. The uterine contractions from climax can jump start labor, plus the prostaglandins in semen can trigger it as well. It mostly depends on when baby is ready though so they're all just up to chance. Good luck though!!
Avatar f tn I was reading about chamomile earlier today & said causes uterine contractions....anyone ever heard of this!?
Avatar f tn If done properly it should mimic the suckling action of a nursing baby and that will stimulate the production of oxytocin, (the natural form of pitocin) the hormone that causes uterine contractions. However it will only work if you are already close to labor and shouldn't be done without consulting your doctor as it can cause over stimulation of the uterus and in turn put the baby in distress..
Avatar n tn I am week 36 and experiencing Braxton hix contractions already. Is there anything I can do to help slow them down or help with the the pain?
