I know it's the top choice of many mothers facing nausea but think about it. They use this drug for chemo and radiation patients. I'm a nursing major and just knowing what it does and the birth deformities it's linked to would deter any expectant mother. I recently discovered a more useful way of coping. It's called diclegis. You take two before bed and your fine for the rest of the day.

hey the zofran in the pill did not work for me but the zofran in the tab that melts on your tongue was a miricle worker, you just can't drink water right after it for a lil while.

I took zofran for the first 20 weeks of pregnancy it was that or become dehydrated and starve bevel with that I didn't each much but puked a lot less. Feel better!! Strangely enough my OB recommended drinking little sips of coca cola (not diet) it actually did help!

Hi, I am 6 weeks pregnant almost 7 now and I have had the worse nausea of my life. Not much of throwing up just nausea. I was prescribed Zofran to help with that but I have found that a lot of women who have taken it have had their child born with deformities. Has anyone taken this medicine before???

There are "possible side effects" from any drug but it is classified as a safe to use in pregnancy drug in the drug guide. They wouldn't prescribe it as much as they do if there was a serious Worry. I've been taking it this whe time and all sonograms have turned up fine- and in a few weeks I expect to see a healthy perfect baby girl. If you're sick enough it's prescribed then you should take it.

Yes zofran is great. Took in beginning of pregnancy and now again towards the end..

I lost around 40 pounds in the first two trimesters even with taking it but it was the only possible way of getting food in front of my mouth let alone in my mouth. Now at 30 weeks I don't throw up a lot but my nausea is horrible so I need my zofran! I've taken well over 240 pills since day one of pregnancy and my baby boy is super healthy and strong!

is zofran safe to take during pregnancy... im 9 weeks and 4 days and the nasuea has been so bad i cant keep anythinf down at all...

They can't actually prove it was specifically the zofran that caused the birth defects.

Rather than use a commercial or somebody posting something in an app to decide whether to take it, use your own judgement.

Zofran is NOT recommended by the FRAME for use in pregnancy. There is evidence of cleft palates and heart deformation in pregnancy. Diclegis is much safer and is the ONLY anti nausea med is the class A safety rating for meds. It has been studied for 50 years with zero correlation to negative side effects in the fetus. Only downside is it makes you really sleepy. Do your research.

They give people the impression that the medication is unsafe. Your doctor has taken an oath to care for you and do the best in terms of this. Zofran is used by millions of people without incident (myself included). I would not let tv commercials and a rare reporting of a side effect rule what you do. Trust your doctor.

I been really sick my first couple of mouths and my doctor had offered me the zofran medicine which I been taking for a while..I read up on the medicine and I saw so many bad comment about it causing birth defects to the baby my doctor or no one didn't tell me about this..what should I do?

My dr. Said a recent study came out not to use Zofran so she prescribed phenigren. My Co worker just had a baby in May and she took Zofran she had a healthy 9 lb girl! There is also a vitamin b6 and unisom (specific ingredient) combo you can take for nausea. I agree with the other ladies. Dehydration and malnutrition are not worth not taking the medicine. I was sick to week 20 and lost 12 lbs even on the medicine! I can only imagine if I didn't take it.

I am on Zofran for HG and have been since 8 weeks (now 17). I looked up lots of info regarding safe use and the large majority of women had healthy babies. Cleft palates are also formed in first 10 weeks and can be due to diet so many doctors consider it could largely be down to HG (poor diet because of constant vomiting/nausea) rather than zofran itself.

Im in a group on facebook coz my baby has a heart condition and a lot of the women on there have ongoing lawsuits as they believe zofran has caused their babys to have heart defects..never took it myself and no heart problems in either side of our families and my baby still had this happen to her..docs says its just unfortunately one of those things that happen...a lot in the group though truly believe its zofran that caused their babys condition though..

I was on it for a while as well. I did a lot of research and found that there havent been any cases in humans that show deformations or anything but because it showed in lab tests with animals they say it's possible it could happen. Lawyers jumped all over it and put out commercials and are trying to make money off it now talking about the so called "dangers" of zofran. I see them everywhere but still haven't heard of a single case of this happening to anyone.

I would highly recommend Zofran. It is used for nausea and it works WONDERS! They have other drugs likes Phenergan and Compozine, but the side effects are long and AWFUL (I know because I have taken both). I just looked at the med fact on Zofran and while it doesn't say much about breastfeeding while taking Zofran, there aren't any known problems with taking it during pregnancy.

I was taking it at first but then my obgyn told me I needed to switch medications because of the side effects of zofran. I took promethazine it worked ask yur doctor about it. See if it's safe for you to use.

Every single commercial you see regarding a drug hits the rare side effects at the very end. Zofran is used in labor routinely and safely. I had to have it in both of my deliveries due to nausea and vomiting (seems I am a total wimp and that is part of my pain reaction). Listen to any drug add and they, at the very end, list a couple of things that according to the package inserts on these drugs is are very low but legally they have to mention them in order to broadcast an ad.

Do not, do not, do not use Zofran. I got prescribed it at the hospital, told my ob at my next appointment and she told me to stop taking it right away, it causes birth defects.
