Common Questions and Answers about Use of symbicort in children

symbicort

Avatar m tn ve never had a reason to monitor my blood pressure, but I looked up the side-effects of Symbicort and it says changes in blood pressure can occur. There was also a warning to use caution in patients who have severe high blood pressure. As far as I can tell, there are no known interactions between Symbicort and blood pressure medicines. If you're concerned about how high your blood pressure gets after taking Symbicort, I'd talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn What you describe is probably being caused by the inhaled steroid (ICS) in these 2 preparations fluticasone in the Advair® and budesonide in the Symbicort®. And, it may be dose related, so that the first step would be for you and your doctor to consider reducing the strength of the ICS. You may be able to get optimum therapeutic benefit, with diminished side-effects, at the lower dose.
Avatar f tn I have been taking symbicort for about 8 months and in that time i notice that my weight has gone up by around 1 stone (14llbs), i have never been overweight and have always eaten healthily and taken exercise. No matther how many times i go to the gym or how much salad i eat it wont go away. None of my clothes fit me and i have gone up a bra size or two.
Avatar f tn as it is one-type of steroid i would be reluctant to use it as frequently as quoted with no side-effects in your statement.

Avatar n tn She said I was quite a bit lower than expected, especially for the amount of exercising I do. She gave me albuteral and symbicort (plus some hayfever meds) and asked me to use the peak flow meter. I generally have been at about 450 on the flow meter and for my size and weght (6' tall and 160 lbs) it says I should be about 650. I don't seem to see any real improvement when I use Albuteral. The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day.
Avatar n tn In the past 16 days I have begun using Spiriva in addition to the 2 doses of Symbicort I was using daily. Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose.
1580703 tn?1651904887 It relaxes and opens the air passages in the lungs. It is the caffeine that makes this work. In the olden days that what people gave their children with asthma. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn It is a bit of an initial investment, but try seeing a homeopath for a while. It made a huge difference in my son's asthma. A homeopath treats the individual. No two people are exactly the same, especially with asthma.
Avatar n tn My husband is using Symbicort and now has a very sore throat. He told me that once or twice he has forgotten to rinse is mouth out with water. I also found out that he does not use it every 12 hours, he is using it twice a day but maybe about 9 hours apart. I am wondering if his sore throat is caused by the Symbicort and what can I do for it, I am giving him throat lozenges and pop sickles. This has been going on for about 4 days now and he has been on the Symbicort since July 7th.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics alone will predispose you thrush, the steroid in the Symbicort will also . Do you rinse your mouth after each use? I find that if I don't do this, I too get thrush. Simply rinsing my mouth after each use prevents the yeast from coming back. Taking probiotics because you are on antibiotics isn't a bad idea either, or eating yogurt with active cultures. Also, are you able to just leave a message with your doctor and have the medicine called in to the pharmacy?
Avatar f tn Although this study confirms that long-term inhaled corticosteroid therapy does not alter the rate of decline of FEV1 in COPD, it does provide evidence of modest clinical benefit in terms of health status and frequency of exacerbations. These findings add a measure of justification for what is fast becoming widespread practice in the management of patients with this common condition." 3) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
718416 tn?1259680550 I have recently been prescribed symbicort, but for some reason I read that corticosteroids are more widely used? Does anyone know whether long term acting beta agonists or cortisteroids are safer long term? What is safer on the heart? Also does xanax counter effect the high blood pressure etc. associated with asthma medicines?
Avatar n tn In February of this year the FDA stated that Advair should be used if nothing else works, and even then, only for short periods. The manufacturer does not lay much emphasis on deaths caused by Advair, a rather spectacular side effect. I stopped using it because it caused severe bronchitis (which I thought mistakenly was part of a worsening illness). I stopped cold turkey after almost choking to death. And, guess what, I have mild chronic bronchitis.
Avatar m tn I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect. Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects? I would really like to know, because I hate taking that symbicort.
Avatar f tn Excess mucous production in the lungs is one of the symptoms of asthma. Some asthmatics just produce more mucous then others in response to an allergic reaction. The best thing to do is drink lots of fluids to keep the mucous thin and exercise regularly to help move the mucous from the lungs.
Avatar f tn If it gives you no relief, then you should go to a walk in clinic or the hospital if you are less the 50% of your best or getting to the point of not being able to talk. Your specialist/doctor should be able to give you asthma meds that will control your symptoms so you don't get the state of crisis.
5037123 tn?1362663006 One idea is to google - possible side effects of Advair. Possible side effects of Symbicort. See if one of the side effects of either Advair or Symbicort is pain between the shoulder blades. Based on what you find out, I would have a conversation with your doctor. Only a suggestion. I'm sure there are other asthma medications besides Advair and Symbicort which may be a better match for you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
Avatar f tn Did an increase in severity of your asthma cause you to become high risk? I know this baby is measuring way smaller than my last one at this time and i was just curious of anyone's personal experiences. I don't mind being high risk I'm just trying to prepare myself for what is in store for my OB appt tomorrow.
Avatar f tn I started a new Job in October and ever since then I have had difficulty breathing and some days I lose my voice almost totally. I have been in and out of the Dr and now using Symbicort and taking prednisone. It is wierd this only happens during the week while I am at work. Weekends seen to be fine after a little time away. Is this Asthma or am I alergice to my workplace? Should I test the air quality?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am taking inhaled symbicort for months but I still have breathing problems
Avatar f tn It is dangerous not to be treating your lungs for inflammation, especially in asthma, as it can quickly spiral out of control. You should work with your pulmonary specialist to find a good steroid inhaler. I agree that oral steroids on a long term basis should be avoided if possible. That is why it is important to first exhaust all of your other options. I really like Symbicort, it is less risky to the body then Advair and works very well for asthma.
